Soundtrack

Urban Decay Soundtrack Decades Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($25.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition six-shade palette that had five shimmery shades with one mostly matte shade. The quality was decent, but the formula used still has a thinner, less-rich feel compared to the brand’s eyeshadows from a few years ago. Someone who typically applies over eyeshadow primer and uses fingertips or a dampened brush may find the palette easiest to use and get better results–those things weren’t so necessary in the past (UD shimmers used to be so lush!).

Throwback

Throwback is a pale gold with moderate, warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a soft, more powdery texture with some thickness to it, too, so it was most flattering and easiest to work with when used with a dampened brush, which took down some of that thicker powderiness. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Y2K

Y2K is a light-medium, plummy-brown base with green-to-blue shifting pearl. It had nearly opaque color coverage, though it appeared lighter and less shifty applied than it did in the pan. The texture was thinner with a touch of dryness, which likely was part of the reason it had a more faded look when applied to bare skin. It stayed on decently for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

That's Dope

That’s Dope is a medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had opaque color payoff with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was slightly thick, but it picked up fine with a dry brush and had good adhesion when pressed and patted (then blended) in place. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Ready or Not

Ready or Not is a muted, darker red-copper with warm undertones and flecks of gold micro-sparkle throughout a matte finish. Thankfully, the micro-sparkles were fine and sparse enough that it didn’t contribute heavily to very visible fallout or get dragged all over the eye area during blending (effectively getting sparkle where you did not intend for it to be). It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage with a soft, lightly powdery consistency. It lasted for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Independent

Independent is a brighter, medium orange with moderate, warm undertones and barely-there golden pearl that gave it a more satiny finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a denser, slightly thin consistency, so it was harder to pick up with a dry brush. I’d recommend using a fingertip or a dampened brush to get better, more even coverage from the get-go. It stayed on decently for eight hours before fading visibly.

Baby Hair

Baby Hair is a soft black base with flecks of silver micro-sparkle. It was packed with micro-sparkle, so some of it did show up on my skin, though a lightly tacky base might help get more of them to show up–but be prepared for some fallout over time. The matte base is harder to blend out over a tackier base, though. The texture was thin but silky enough to be blendable and picked up well with a dry brush. It had mostly opaque coverage that showed signs of fading after eight hours of wear (along with light fallout).
