Urban Decay Full Frontal Lipstick Stash Review, Photos, Swatches

Urban Decay Full Frontal Lipstick Stash ($39.00 for 0.25 oz.) includes six, miniature-sized Revolution lipsticks with three new, limited edition, exclusive shades to the set paired with three previously released shades (Gash, which was limited edition when it released, and Liar and F-Bomb, both of which are part of the permanent range). I think the set is a great idea, as you can try multiple shades without spending the full-priced equivalent to do so. The only downside is that mini lipsticks can be frustrating to use, because they’re less comfortable to hold (so much smaller!) and are more fragile (two of the six broke at the base while applying). The lipsticks themselves are consistent with the Revolution formula, which is one of my favorites, and I really hope these new shades get added to the permanent range.

Ladyflower is described as a “bright rose-pink.” It’s a brightened, fuchsia-plum with cool undertones and a luminous finish. It was intensely pigmented and yielded opaque color coverage that wore well for five hours and was nicely hydrating over time. There’s a slightly muted quality to the color that makes it less your typical fuchsia but not quite a plum. NARS Marisa (P, $32.00) is lighter. NARS Michiyo (P, $32.00) is brighter, darker. MAC Boutique Pink (LE, $22.00) is lighter, cooler-toned. Givenchy Rose Perfecto (209) (P, $36.00) is lighter, brighter. Bite Beauty Vigne (P, $24.00) is warmer. MAC Heavenly Hybrid (LE, $16.00) is sheerer. L’Oreal Pink Flamingo (180) (P, $8.95) is lighter. Maybelline Hot Plum (P, $7.49) is brighter. MAC Dish It Up (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Illicit is described as a “sheer baby pink.” It’s a light-medium, subtly cool-toned pink with a frosted shimmer. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a lightly glossy finish. I’m really glad Urban Decay made mention that this is sheer, because the Revolution formula is known for its pigmentation. This shade lasted for two and a half hours on me, and it was somewhat streaky/uneven applied. If I pressed my lips together, there would be “lines.” Laura Mercier Heartbreaker (LE, $23.00) is lighter. MAC Snapdragon (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. Bobbi Brown Pink Flush (LE, $25.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Crush is described as a “hot pink.” It’s a bold, bright fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones. It’s so bright that it’s not even photographing right for me–it kept giving this golden-orange tinge as a reflection, which I can’t remember ever seeing before! I didn’t see any shimmer or orange-tinge to it in real life–just neon fuchsia. It’s richly pigmented, creamy, easy to apply, and lasts five and a half hours on me while being hydrating. NARS Michiyo (P, $32.00) is darker, more muted. Melt Cosmetics Shady Lady (P, $19.00) is darker, more matte. Too Faced Melted Fuchsia (P, $21.00) is cooler-toned. Ardency Inn Twist (P, $25.00) is cooler-toned, more matte. Urban Decay Anarchy (P, $22.00) is a smidgen cooler-toned (but they’re very similar). Maybelline Electric Fuchsia (LE, $7.49) is cooler-toned. Maybelline Fuchsia Flash (P, $7.49) is similar. Buxom Exhibitionist (P, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Last holiday season, I bought their LE with 6 full size lipsticks for about the same price or possibly even a little less. Nevertheless, I think it’s a good deal. I actually like lipstick minis because I rarely use up an entire lipstick these days. Sorry that two broke for you. I love the pick shades, and I already adore F-Bomb, my go-to red.

Ginny Avatar

Christine, how do you think Gash compares to Nars Charlotte? On your side by side swatch they look almost identical. I’m pale and Charlotte looks quite purplish on me. Do you think Gash has any more red in it? Or are they really as close as they look.

Any news if this set will be available at other retailers? Or will it be exclusive to the UD website? I would love to get Sephora points for this…but if not, I want to buy it right now!

I love mini lipsticks! I have to keep my makeup fairly conservative for work, so I rarely get a chance to wear ‘fun’ colors. I hate the thought of buying a full sized hot pink fuchsia, only to have it spoil before I even get halfway through the tube. Shame about them breaking, but that’s the nature of the beast, I suppose.

I grabbed this the minute it went on sale, as I had none of the colors in my stash and I like the formula. Plus, I have never used an entire lipstick, so I really prefer minis. I LOVE Crush. If they made that full sized, I would break my own rules and grab one. I don’t like Liar. That is the dud of the set for me. Nude lipsticks look terrible on me. But, I put on one coat of that and one coat of one of the deep reds. Then I mix and blot. That works pretty well.

But I really, really recommend this set to anyone intrested! It is a great set!

That’s how I see it! Ozone works great with the OCC lip tars as a barrier, too. This was a great value. ;> I’m excited that Too Faced Melted Fuchsia is a dupe for Crush. I ordered Sephora’s Give Me More Lip and I believe that is included in the set. So exciting!

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

I’m super excited to get these as they just shipped my Sephora order from 2 days ago. (Probably won’t show up till 2 weeks. 😉 )

Crush is pretty, though I kind of wish that gold sheen was more present on the lips. Ladyflower is a really beauty day wear shade because it not too bright and subtle blue undertone is flattering and no too violet/mauve.

But it great for me as i don’t have Gash, F-Bomb and Liar as well.

Ellie Avatar

Thanks for posting this! I’d been considering grabbing this one, but the shades are just too similar for me (and too much pink!), plus I had been worrying about them breaking like you mentioned, that’s a total dealbreaker for me even if I can still use a brush with it :/

Christine Avatar

You could use a blow dryer or lighter on the edge (just a little bit to melt it), and then kind of work it back into the tube, if it happens. I definitely would use a lighter touch when applying from the tube and make sure to only twist-up *just* enough to expose some of it.

CatG Avatar

I’m surprised I haven’t heard about troubles with the bases breaking on application before. That kind of makes me hesitant to buy miniature lipsticks… but it seems like a great deal and set.

Crush looks like an almost exact dupe for Anarchy (which I love, and seems anecdotally to be one of their more popular shades) based on the gallery pictures. It seems like this set is geared more toward collectors and people who don’t have solid pink lipstick wardrobes already than… well, me. lol. It looks like the shades are all really nice iterations of currently popular colors that I already own. Would be a great gift for someone just breaking into pinks.

I’m trying to get back into pinks, but i just can’t go this far. Was depotting some of the old hand-held face cases + thought that the current selection is far more mainstream + less edgy than some of their older l/s and gunks, like Tart, AC/DC, Biker, Area 51. The formula is fab, but only have 69 in Revolution l/s. (F-bomb in saturated pencil, instead…) I actually miss the time when they weren’t so pretty and were more unusual. But it’s certainly good for sales. Think I’ll put Gash + Ozone pencil on my F+F list + bypass the pinks. The coral Lush would be a swell choice, as that color makes me look like swamp thing! But i’m looking forward to trying to spot them on tv/computer. I think I saw Coachella Coral on a soap. Looked fab on that actress. Bet I spot that Crush on someone before year’s end! What a knockout shade!

I must have this set. All the colors look wonderful. I am absolutely giddy about Crush. Holy cow, is that a bright pink. I want, I want, I want! Needs to be permanent.

Eliz Avatar

I just received this set today and I love it! And, if I did not already have it, your swatches and review would make me want it. I totally agree that all 3 of the LE shades, especially Ladyflower (wow, perfect cool-rose), should be permanent. Crush is totally out of my comfort zone, but is undeniably fierce and I rocked it at home today 🙂 Baby steps, right?!?

This is where sets with lots of fun, mini-sized colors shine – you can step outside of your comfort zone and try new shades that you’d otherwise never consider purchasing. That said, there are at least 4 shades in this set that I would definitely purchase in full-size. That’s a win to me. I already knew I loved the formula as I have Naked and Native, which are go-to shades for me. See, I broke new ground wearing Crush today.

Joli Avatar

I was so excited by this set, but then I found out the formula has avocado oil in it.
I have an avocado intolerance that gives me food poisoning type symptoms, so I will not be putting this on my lips!

I can’t wait for the avocado craze to end. It starting to be in everything and not always advertised so it’s frustrating.

Jade Avatar

The breaking of the little bullets is putting me right off. That would be SO. ANNOYING. Though I think I need to invest in a clear lipliner, I get bleeding quite bad with anything which isn’t matte.

Lotus Avatar

I think this s worthy gift, for sure. These are great lipsticks and wonderful colors. Decent deal. I do think a color like Shame should be hee for mixing purposes as seasons change, to represent the darker lip. Or a dark liner to switch to gor that reason… I don’t want it but I still think it will make great gifts!
