Urban Decay Bad Blood Matte Revolution Lipstick
Urban Decay Bad Blood Matte Revolution Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “matte deep red.” It’s a medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had very nearly opaque color coverage (there was still a shadow of my lip freckle peeking through). The consistency was lightly creamy and applied easily without dragging on the lips. It hugged without feeling clingy, but it also ensured the color didn’t slip while on nor did I experience any feathering/bleeding (though neither are something I get frequently, for your reference). This shade lasted for nearly nine hours on me, and it felt a little drying after eight hours of wear. MAC Prolong (P, $18.00) is cooler, glossier. MAC Such Flare (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler. MAC Russian Red (P, $16.00) is darker. MAC Charmed, I’m Sure (LE, $16.00) is cooler. MAC Charlotte (LE, $16.00) is lighter, cooler. Besame American Beauty 1945 (P, $22.00) is lighter, cooler. MAC Stunner (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Salon Rouge (LE, $16.00) is more muted, cooler, glossier. Chanel La Desiree (327) (LE, $34.00) is cooler. MAC Frank-n-furter (LE, $16.00) is cooler. MAC Just a Bite (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler, glossier. NYX Chic Red (P, $4.00) is lighter, cooler. NARS Mascate (P, $26.00) is darker, cooler. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Temper Matte Revolution Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “matte bright orange-red.” It’s a slightly muted, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. This was one of the more true matte shades in the range, though it’s not entirely flat. It had good color payoff that went on evenly and smoothly without emphasizing lip lines, despite its more matte finish. The color wore well for eight hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Dangerous (P, $16.00) is lighter. NARS Moscow (P, $26.00) is darker. NARS Golshan (P, $25.00) is darker. MAC Strange Journey (LE, $16.00) is lighter, brighter. Maybelline Craving Coral (P, $7.99) is lighter, brighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Rei of Light (212) (P, $30.00) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty Flame (06) (P, $50.00) is lighter, brighter. NARS Marlene (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. NARS Rita (P, $32.00) is glossier. Kat Von D Countess (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy. Givenchy Rouge d’Exception (308) (LE, $36.00) is glossier. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Tilt Matte Revolution Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “matte bright orange.” It’s a brightened, coral-orange with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had rich, intense pigmentation that covered the lips with smooth, even color. The texture glided on easily with enough slip to apply well but stayed on without feathering or sliding around the lips during wear. It wore well for eight hours, and it was just slightly drying after the sixth hour. MAC Rozz (LE, $16.00) is darker. Bite Beauty Blood Orange (LE, $24.00) is darker, warmer. Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is darker. MAC Toxic Tale (LE, $16.00) is cooler. Clinique Poppy Pop (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary | Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a new formula releasing on July 8th (later for retailers). There are eleven shades in the range with two exclusive to Urban Decay’s website and freestanding stores. The formula is supposed to be smooth, pigmented, creamy, and “provide long-lasting moisture.” It’s a very pigmented, semi-matte to natural finish formula that wears a really, really long time and wears away evenly without bleeding or feathering. My only issue with these is that they’re more of a satin finish than a true matte one, but if that’s not a deal-breaker, they’re worth checking out. I was extremely impressed by how long-wearing the formula was without being drying. I could wear a shade from 9AM to 9PM and not once think, “I really wish I could apply lip balm.” Some shades have more slip than others, and as a result, the ones with more slip have a more satin-like sheen to them, while a couple were less creamy and applied with more of a semi-matte finish from the get-go. Most shades wore down to a traditional matte (but not liquid lipstick flat-matte finish) within an hour to two of wear. The texture is significantly less creamy with a lot less slip compared to the Sheer Revolution and original Revolution formulas, which have a much more luminous sheen with a slight tackiness to the texture, whereas these have no tackiness and a more velvety feel (they remind me of NARS Audacious Lipsticks in that respect). These hug the lips more as a result but surprisingly, they’re very comfortable to wear. What’s particularly nice is that the texture has some creaminess and weight to it, so while it can transfer onto cups and the like, there’s so much of it that it doesn’t wear away the color, and you can also smooth out any smudges if you dabbed with a napkin. There was no discernible scent or taste.

This sounds like my kind of formula though I’m not sure if I want any of the colours (I liked Stark Naked but that sounded like the worst performing). Bad Blood is nice, but super dupable. Oh well, money saved. Though I’ve never actually tried an orange like Temper, maybe I’ll like it on me more than I think I will.
Hope you can try it sometime, but I also hope they’ll put out some more shades!
Yes to more shades! Also wouldn’t mind some new additions or LE shades to the regular revolution lipstick line…
Wow, UD did a great job with these! Bad Blood is tempting, and Temper looks super gorgeous on you!
They did!!
Thank you, Katherine!
I literally just shouted a huge “YESSS!” for that great review on Temper! I’d been waiting for you to review it and boy, I could not be any more excited to grab that asap!
Haha! ;D
Temper was the only one I wanted and it looks like its the only one in getting.
Yay!
Not my colors, but they look gorgeous on you, Christine 🙂 especially Temper!
Thank you!
Oooooooh Tilt is such a fun one!!! 😀
It is! Very bright.
Bad Blood really is Frank-N-Furter red to me.
I could see that!
As I suspected I think I’ll get After Dark, Blackmail, and Temper. But I am liking Bad Blood more than I thought I would. It might just be how it’s pulling on you but it seems more neutral than most deeper reds out there (which are usually cooler).
I don’t think it is super warm or super cool-toned (Bad Blood) – it’s definitely one of those shades that can easily read warmer/cooler depending on coloring + what you pair it with!
I’m a little disappointed the Tilt wasn’t a bit more orange but Temper is now on my list
At least Temper won you over!
Tilt looks gorgeous on you! Several places say these were supposed to debut yesterday on UD.com, but they didn’t. And they’re still not up there today. I’m dying to get my hands on these! Did they delay releasing them?
Reader Amanda said customer service told her today that it would be the 12th!
Ah, thank you so much!
I finally heard back from UD customer service, these are actually being released on the 12th. Figured I’d comment and give anyone else a heads up just in case they were refreshing the UD site all day yesterday like I was lol
Thank you for the update!!
All of these colours are beautiful and so pigmented I think i want them all.
They really are very pigmented!
I”ve been loving your eye look with the last few batches of UD matte lipsticks but wow, this batch complements it really well!
Thanks, Yelena!
I need these three, especially Temper. SO beautiful!
They’re very nice!
Temper looks kind of unique, but I see there are definitely shades out there like it! Bad Blood makes me get Taylor Swift’s number stuck in my head! 😀 I like these 3, though, and I might have to cave. 😐
Haha! I had the song stuck in my head, too!
Love these. I had my eye on Temper. I’m so glad it’s a great one.
Woohoo! 🙂
They all look good on you Christine!
Thank you, Melissa! xo
I love Temper and Bad Blood! My list for these is getting so long. Picking which ones to buy first is going to be hard! o
Anyway, This is probably my last post before my surgery unless you review at 430am EST,lol! I just wanted to tell you Christine and anyone else in the community who reads this how grateful I am that I found this site. Not just because it allows me access to all the best in the world of beauty and helps me to buy smarter. But, I really feel as if I have made some friends on here. I know it may be odd to have friends through a computer screen. But, I honestly crack up at so many comments and am like “Yep,I totally get it”.Anyway..Thank you Christine for building this and for everyone for being great friends. You all have helped me cope with some rough times for certain. I thank you all immensely. Hopefully , I will be back in no time to gush about all the fall lovelies coming out. 🙂
Wishing you the very best, Nicole! 🙂 We are anxious for you to come back as soon as you can. Please take care!
Sorry for all the comments I have given you to sort through! Thank you for your very sweet message. It meant so much and thank you for providing a ton of reading material to force me to rest as I catch up. Happy to be back!:)
xoxo
Good luck with your surgery, Nicole.
Thank you Rachel! Sorry I didn’t get to post my response before I went under. But, I made it and am back home recovering. So, now I can chat beauty with you all! Yay!
No need to apologize. I’m so glad to hear it went well.
Thanks Nicole! I feel the same way about this site. Hang in there girl, I’m rooting for you!
Sorry I didn’t get to,respond go before my surgery Katherine. I think I saw these pop up in my email in the morning when I was waiting and then the huge string of doctors and nurses bombarded me. So, I’m sure I had you all in my mind as I floated off to la la land. Thank you for your well wishes. I slimmed through the blog and looked through your post before I sorted through my email and mall, lol. I have 3 days to catch up on so it will force me to rest. I’m taking advantage of it while I can!:)
Good luck for your surgery and recovery. The makeup will be waiting for you when you return. It is great to be part of an online community such as this one, thanks to Christine.
Thank you for your well wishes Genevieve. Sorry I didn’t get to respond before my surgery! I’m back home and recovering now. Everything went well. So, with some healing , hopefully I will be back to being healthy soon! I look forward to catching up with yours and everyone’s comments about Christine’s posts as I recover and of course, in the future.
Good luck to you, Nicole. I remember our correspondence, and I wish you the easiest, fastest, least-complicated recovery possible. I’m watching Wolf Hall with a friend who is recovering from her own surgery, just keeping her comfortable while she feels pretty bad, and I do highly recommend it.
Hi Erin! I hope you are well? So nice to hear from you. I’m home and recovering now. I do appreciate your well-wishes and I will keep Wolf-half in mind as I’m sure soon I will go bananas with too much time on the couch!
Good luck, Nicole!! My mom had surgery in March and felt SO SO SO much healthier afterwards. You have a lot to look forward to. I hope your health stays on track and you have a quick recovery! I know you’re a stranger to me, but I’ll be thinking about ya today.
Thank you Liz for sharing your mother’s story and your thoughts! I’m at home now and still beat up and recovering . But, the surgery went well and I’m time, I think my life should be back to normal again! Nobody’s a stranger on Temptalia! I started chiming in on here about 2 years ago while recovering from another surgery. I know it’s weird, but I truly feel like I have gained friends along with great additions to my makeup stash, and some amazing beauty tips to boot! 🙂
That Bad Blood lipstick is DIVINE! I love it – and it looks so gorgeous on you Christine. I think Tilt is way too orangey, whilst Temper looks like a match between the two.
Bad Blood has my name on it…..
Aw, thank you Genevieve!
Perfect scores from Temptalia! WOW Congrats, UD! Hehe. Bad Blood for me!!!
It is nice to see!
From the pictures Bad Blood looks extremely similar in color (though, not in finish) to UD’s Mrs. Mia Wallace lipstick!!! I still mourn the discontinuation of the Mrs. Mia Wallace shade & even stocked up on the lip liners when they went on Hautelook because it’s just my very favorite shade of red ever. How would you say they compare? If they’re the same color with a slightly different finish I’m going to be so excited, I prefer a more matte finish anyways!

All of them! Love these colours.
They are nice!
These make me so glad I work at Ulta and get that sweet, sweet discount, because otherwise, I would be homeless in a bod with a very beautiful lipstick collection. These are so friggin gorgeous.
Yay for discounts 🙂
I really like Tilt on you!
Thanks, Erin!
How does Bad Blood compare to Gash? I missed out on that one and have been looking for a good substitue…

I got it in bad blood. It’s such a gorgeous, deep bright blood red that I’ve received a lot of compliments wearing it. Perfect color for my nc15 skin tone. Even better over the ozone primer pencil cause it stays put and doesn’t get everywhere all over my face!
Yayy!
