Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss — Big Bang, Vice, Bittersweet, Liar, Failbait

Urban Decay Apocalypse Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep purple-wine.” It’s a lightly muted, dark plummy burgundy with warm undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that felt smooth going on, but it looked somewhat uneven. The gloss lasted for six hours and was hydrating while worn. It feels non-sticky initially but gradually develops tackiness as the gloss wears down and has no discernible taste and very subtle sweet vanilla scent. MAC Sin (LE, $15.00) is warmer. MAC Talk Sexy (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Dior Intrigue (995) (P, $35.00) is lighter, brighter. MAC Modern Lure (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Sultana (LE, $20.00) is less glossy, lighter. Chanel Controversy (72) (P, $32.00) is warmer. MAC Lasting Achievement (P, $19.50) is darker. MAC Flight of Fancy (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery. Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet (P, $24.00) is warmer, more shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Urban Decay Bittersweet Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright purple.” It’s a medium-dark pink-based purple with a creamy, glossy finish. This was one of the worst performers–and one I so badly wanted to be true!purple!–with a very streaky application and semi-sheer color payoff. It lasted for five hours and was hydrating, but it looked so splotchy that I think the only way to wear it is to apply it over a lip liner or lipstick. NYX Berry Strudel (P, $6.00) is cooler-toned, lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Truth or Dare (208) (P, $28.00) is warmer. MAC Heroine (LE, $15.00) is pinker. MAC Narcissus (LE, $20.00) is lighter. Illamasqua Fierce (P, $22.00) is lighter, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Urban Decay Vice Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “dark purple with glitter.” It’s a reddish-berry with cool undertones and subtle violet shimmer. The shimmer is fairly subtle, and it just has a very light dusting of sparkle that is fine enough that I never felt it while wearing the gloss. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but there’s noticeable translucency so the natural lip color will come through. On me, the gloss wore well for almost six hours and was nicely moisturizing while worn. Urban Decay Big Bang (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter. Maybelline Radiant Ruby (530) (P, $8.99) is sheerer. Chanel Crazy Fuchsia (194) (LE, $29.50) is brighter. Revlon HD Pink Ruby (515) (P, $8.99) is brighter. Sisley Paris Berry (5) (P, $50.00) is less glossy, lighter. NARS Sixties Fan (P, $26.00) is sheerer. NARS Quito (P, $26.00) is sheerer, less shimmery. Chanel Tocade (182) (P, $29.50) is less shimmery, sheerer. Revlon Adorned (P, $7.49) is brighter. Maybelline Caviar Couture (050) (P, $8.99) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Lust for Life (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, darker. NARS Mexican Rose (P, $24.00) is more muted. Oh, I am no happy that bittersweet didn’t do good either! That would have been a for sure one for me! Purple gloss-yes please! The others look good though!
I know you said you thought a lipliner may help bittersweet. do you think a clear lipliner would work? or are you referring to one to provide color under?

Got ya. I may even have something in my ColourPop stash of lipliners that would work. But, then again by the time I buy a lip liner and a gloss, I could have bought the Suratt lip lustre that lingers in my mind. Thanks for the advice and warning on this one! 😀

I don’t, mainly because I don’t really like their gloss formula. I find the Intense ones tend to be really uneven and gloopy on me :-(. So I just avoid their glosses now in general.

I have a lovely purple creamy gloss from NYX, which is usually what I break out when I want genuine purple. Or MAC Heroine lipstick, or OCC Technopagan if I have the patience to apply it!

OK, so from the Maxi-Lip trademark holder, Maxi-Lip = ethylhexyl palmitate + tribehenin + sorbitan isostearate + palmitoyl oligopeptide. I see all those ingredients listed (and in that order) in the ingredients for Revolution Lipstick on UD’s site, but not in the photo of the ingredients side of the box of Revolution Lipgloss.

It seems really weird to me that both opaque and sheer UD lipstick formulas (and the old Lip Junkies) would have Maxi-Lip, but now a new product under the Revolution brand doesn’t. I think I need a definition of the Revolution brand now! Haha. Overall these swatches don’t look great to me; I can’t same I’m real impressed with this product.

Thanks as always for this insider info, Ms. Christine JD/MBA. You are Beauty Blogger #1 in my book.
