Urban Decay 100 Degrees, Heatwave, Tower 1 Vice Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

100 Degrees
Urban Decay 100 Degrees Vice Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, medium pinky-coral with warm undertones and a glossy, shiny finish. It looked like a glossy balm and less like a lipstick in finish, but it had a slight tackiness for better adhesion (and more consistent with the Vice formula). The finish is “Sheer,” which Urban Decay describes as a “punch of color with a sheer, shiny finish,” and I’d say that’s somewhat accurate–100 Degrees ran a bit more pigmented (more like medium to semi-opaque). The color applied smoothly to my lips and didn’t drag with fairly even application and minimal color that settled into my lip lines (which wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance). It wore well for four and a half hours and was nicely hydrating.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is available in six finishes, which are primarily distinguished by level of sheen, shimmer content, and coverage. I didn't notice any scent or taste. Mega Mattes are the thinnest and have the most “cling” as they are drier and more matte (but most are semi-matte and not a totally flat matte) and can be drying, though they are longer-wearing.
Comfort Mattes are creamier, a little denser, with richer color payoff on average (they are the most pigmented out of the finishes), and have a satin finish that is fairly comfortable to wear, usually lightly hydrating, and longer-wearing.
Creams are usually softer and creamier, though not too soft (they don’t mush or break from the base easily), with some being tackier and stiffer in the tube until they warm up against the lips; they have good color payoff, are hydrating, and are comfortable to wear but have more typical wear (four to six hours–six hours for deeper/richer shades like a red).
Sheers and Sheer Shimmers have a more balm-like consistency that feels a little thinner but is wetter/more emollient than Mega Mattes, so ultimately, they feel quite different applied; they have sheerer coverage, though more semi-sheer to semi-opaque than very sheer, and have the shortest wear time at two to fours with light hydration.
Metallized is the most shimmery of the finishes, though some of the other finishes have shades that are actually as shimmery (to me), but the Metallized formula has a thinner, more emollient base that isn’t as dense or as cream-like as the Creams; they feel more like the Sheers but a bit heavier and more pigmented (but seem to run semi-opaque to opaque, not always fully opaque) with average wear (four to five hours), light hydration.

Heatwave
Urban Decay Heatwave Vice Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a rich, deep copper-brown with warm, red undertones and a metallic finish. It had rich, opaque pigmentation with a lightweight, creamy texture that wasn’t too thick or too thin but had enough substance to adhere well and yield rich coverage despite the shine. There was a smidgen of product that did get into my deeper lip lines, but the opacity and metallic sheen made it hard to see it from a normal viewing distance (just in the close-up photos). It lasted for five hours and was hydrating while worn.

Tower 1
Urban Decay Tower 1 Vice Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) has a sheer, peach base with a medium amount of sparkle (a mix of gold and pink) paired with a glossy sheen. It had a more balm-like texture that was lightweight and emollient, so it applied without dragging and tugging, and I only could feel the glittery bits just slightly when I pressed my lips together. It was labeled as a “Metallized” finish, and it’s extremely sheer, which isn’t how the Metallized formula is described, unfortunately. I think that this should have been part of the “Sheer Shimmer” finish, which would have made a lot more sense. It lasted for two and a half hours but was moisturizing.

I got excited when I saw photos of Tower 1, it looked so pretty. What a disappointment, it looks more like a slightly glittery lip balm. Thank you for your reviews and swatches. It’s much better to be disappointed by them than by purchasing and having to return.
Heatwave is beautiful, I think it’s going to come home with me. I’ve been looking for a warm lipstick. I have neutral undertones but tend to buy cool lipsticks.
Because Arizona; 100 Degrees. It also helps that this is a juicy, semi-sheer type of lip color that just screams summer from the rooftops!
Love Heatwave, too. But have KVD Super Sonic, and love that over something like MAC Retro. Still tempted to get Heatwave…
Left wondering what the heck is Tower 1 even supposed to be? A topper? But UD never says it? Looks like a lip gloss!
I can’t pull off those bright corals like the first one but it looks great on you.
Heatwave is my favorite of these shades but I have a lot of lip lines and would be worried about the thicker formula with more texture emphasizing my lines. These types of formulas do not tend to travel up to my upper lip lines just make my lips look more aged!! Not a good look.
I just love Heatwave…gorgeous shade for me.
Ooh, I need Heatwave!
I wonder what Tower 1 is supposed to reference if not 9/11? I’m not normally one to care about beauty product names, but this seems callous and crass.
No, it’s referring to a lifeguard tower to fit with the Beached theme.
Audrey, if it’s any comfort, I was wondering the same thing too and had the same reaction as you. I think that term is so burned into the minds of those of us who were adults or teens and were watching that day that those words can’t help but make that connection for us.
I had the same reaction, too, and am not surprised to see it already discussed in the comments here! It surprises me that the name made it through to the final product.
Wow, not normally my color, but I just love the juicy finish on 100 Degrees, think I will need to get it!
Tower 1 is disappointing. I was hoping it would have a tint of color and much more sparkle. 100 Degrees and Heatwave are both gorgeous, though!
Must have Heatwave.
