Too Faced Rock 'n' Roll Rock Candy Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Too Faced Rock 'n' Roll Rock Candy Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced Rock ‘n’ Roll Rock Candy Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced Rock ‘n’ Roll Rock Candy Eyeshadow Palette ($36.00 for 0.39 oz.) includes nine eyeshadows; three are larger (0.07 oz. each) and six are smaller (0.03 oz. each). It’s an Ulta-exclusive that launches on June 1st. Overall, it’s a nice palette with smokier, darker shades (contrasted with three lighter shades) and good color payoff, decent wear, and soft textures. If you’ve used Too Faced’s eyeshadows before, you’ll be familiar with their slightly softer consistency and texture, which can sometimes be a bit powdery at times. With this type of texture, I would recommend using a primer underneath, as the color will adhere better and wear longer.

I double-checked with Too Faced, and they confirmed June 1st as the launch date on Friday (5/30). Unfortunately, I don’t have any other information on whether there is a new date, it’s simply late, or if there is some other reason for the delay. I highly suggest calling your local ULTA before making a drive to visit.  Update on 6/3/14:  Too Faced says there are shipment delays to retailers at this time, and the palettes are now pushed back to end of the month.

Rockabilly is a light, neutral-to-warm-toned beige with a matte finish. It had a soft, silky texture that applied smoothly with good color payoff. It was just slightly powdery. It lasted well for seven and a half hours on me. This is definitely a shade Too Faced has released a few times before with little to no noticeable differences. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Rap is a coppery gold with warm, orange undertones and a sparkly, metallic finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft to the touch, but it was a bit chunky, so there was some fall out during application and a little bit of sparkle fall out during wear. The color wore well for almost eight hours, though. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Ska is a medium-dark, warm-toned taupe brown with a pearly sheen. It had excellent color payoff, and it applied evenly and smoothly. The texture was soft, buttery, and blendable, while the color lasted well for eight hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

New Wave is a light, yellow-toned pink with warm undertones and white sparkle. The sparkle doesn’t bind too well with the underlying base color, so a lot of it gets trapped and lost in the brush as it is applied to the lid. The few remaining sparkles seem to fall out during wear, which means this is really mostly a matte pink at the end of the day. On my lid, the color stayed put for seven and a half hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pop is a medium-dark plum with warm, burgundy undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was slightly powdery, though soft and easy to blend, but it’s a shade that needs a primer or slightly tacky base to shine. Over bare lids, it fell a little flat–just looked faded–though it lasted for seven and a half hours. It had decent to good color payoff. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Heavy Metal is a blackened blue with very fine iridescent purple and bluish-teal shimmer that creates a pearly finish. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was soft, blendable, and was only just slightly powdery. It wore well for eight hours before starting to fade. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

New Romantic is a light-medium, golden beige with a soft, pearly finish. It had good pigmentation, while the texture was soft and smooth but not powdery. This color stayed well on the lid for seven and a half hours before it started to break down. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Glam Rock is a cool-toned taupe with a matte base finished with white sparkle. It had excellent color payoff, and the texture was soft without being powdery, but the sparkles tended to separate from the actual eyeshadow color, so it applied more like a regular matte shade than one with sparkle. I noticed some stray sparkle fall out when it was worn, though the actual color lasted well for eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Punk is a medium-dark, forest green with cool-toned emerald green micro-shimmer and a warm, olive brown undertone. It had good pigmentation, but the texture was a little powdery, though soft, so it was prone to sheering out and looking somewhat faded without a primer. The color lasted for seven and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this and the Country palette, too! As soon as Ulta puts them up (June 1st, I think), I will be purchasing. I love Too Faced palettes, especially when they are truly new releases like this and not reissues of older palettes with one or two new shades, like the Summer 2013 palette, which resurfaced this year with two new shadows, a new name, but all else the same.

Hannah Avatar

Didn’t think I was going to like this but I actually really love the shades! Very unique and I feel like I could use them all as one-shadow looks, simple and quick for summer days and evenings!
Definitely will think about this one!!

Lorrin M Avatar

Beautiful colors! I’ll probably pass on this one though since I feel a lot of the colors are dupeable. Thanks for the review! 😀

Chanel Avatar

This palette is really cool. I love dark colors that have that dark punk rock smokey eye theme going on. I can see this being paired with a bright red lipstick (Like OCC NSFW) to finish it off. 🙂 Thanks for the swatches.

Julie Avatar

This reminds me of the UD smoked palette! The colors aren’t exactly the same, but kind of a similar theme/feel! Seems like it could be a more affordable option, especially for someone warmer toned!

Yousra Avatar

I like this palette! It has a really nice combination of neutrals and colours. Too bad all of these Too Faced palettes that I like are Ulta exclusives — I don’t live near one. 🙁

Dani Avatar

Pop and punk are my favorite shades, so fun! The look you created is gorgeous! Unfortunately I won’t be getting this pallet. Sometimes with these, I wish the midtone shadows were the larger size instead of the light ones…I seem to use them more often.

Danielle Avatar

I really like this palette, but I still wish Too Faced would have all of their pans the same size. Some of the smaller sizes are shades I like more and know I would get more use from.

Kari Avatar

ugh i love this *heart eyes* but like someone else said, it is kind of similar to ud’s smoked palette… which i have and barely use 🙁 will have to wait for the country swatches and see which one i like more! haha

Mariella Avatar

What a beautiful look you’ve created, Christine. I’m so ticked that this isn’t available at Sephora or in Canada generally/at all (BOOOO and HISSSSS). I’ve got a few dupes for trying to recreate this palette and the look you did with the shadows I do have and will try to take consolation from that.

Brenda Avatar

I’m saddened by this being an Ulta exclusive (Canadian here)…as much as I DON’T need more eyeshadows, I would get a lot of use out of this palette!

Sylirael Avatar

Love your look with this! 😀 Amost kind of watercolour-y, with the different patches of colour blending into each other 🙂

You know, looking at this palette, I really think it has a nice mix of shades. It’s got gold, it’s got brown, it’s got neutrals/nudes, it even has a berry, a blue and a green (even if they are a little murkier than I might have liked, LOL). A pretty solid palette, colour wise!

beka Avatar

the names of shades don’t usually bug me, but i’m having a hard time with these. the colors could have been much more creative…i mean “new wave” is pale pink? come on! that said, i do think the colors are nice and maybe they just should have been more creative than labeling each a genre of rock music.

Etoile Avatar

I’m super excited for this! Although I do think I have a lot of dupes in my collection, I can’t help myself from wanting it, haha. Plus the packaging is super cute, and I love Too faced Palettes for travel. Thanks for the review, I was really looking forward to it!

Tara Avatar

I adore the tin packaging on Too Faced palettes so much! This one is really cute! 😀 New Wave, Pop, Glam Rock, and Punk are my favorites. I love Glam Rock but I was really looking forward to the shade I saw in the promo images, a dusty sage green. Still loving the shade they gave us though – it’s one I know I’d wear a lot, especially with a bright lip. ❤ I love Too Faced palettes! ❤ Will definitely be picking this up. Can’t wait to see swatches of the Country palette! So excited for these!

Amanda Avatar

I spoke with Ulta today & they said they ARE NOT releasing June 1st any way you could find out if it’s been pushed back..oh and they said the same for the country one …thanks in advance 🙂

Amanda Avatar

Thanks talked to my ulta yesterday that’s when they get their truck…and no palette…they on get truck on Wednesday…. so please let me know… thanks

Jennifer Avatar

I got the same thing at my local Ulta. They had hadn’t even heard of a new TF palette at all 🙁 I called first thing this morning and nada. It’s not even on the Ulta website. I really want to pick up both palettes.

Ashley B Avatar

I’m dying to see your review on the Country one. This one looks great, but the Country one looked more my style. Thanks for the review! I’ve just gotten into Too Faced palettes. Especially since they seem to be moving away from the bulkier packaging.

Ellen Avatar

I just got their new natural or neutral palette. It is my first two faced palette. I found the shadows to be a bit too shimmery for my taste, but if I do my own eye desigh and not follow their guide, which is going horizontally across the line of three shadows, I can make it work. It is very dupable, but could be great for travel With the addition of a plum shade, and maybe a peachy copper for lids, you’d be set for just about anything. The Rock n Roll palette adds the color that the neutral one lacks. I thought I’d like the Country one better when I saw your preview, but the shades look too light and powdery. I’ll never use the blue, I might experiment with the green, but the rest are very wearable shades. When do you have enough palettes? I have a few Bobbi Brown ones, the quality is great, but they are strictly for neutrals, she makes no colors that have any pop. Naked 3 was disappointing. I thought it would be perfect because I look great in pinky browns (which I learned from BB’s Desert Twilight collection), but they were too light or too cool. I got Lorac’s Unzipped palette, which hits the spot colorwise where Naked 3 did not, but the colors are light, and the darkest one is powdery. I”d love to see Two Faced make try at a “rose gold “palette. Their colors have “pop”, it might be the best one yet! But again, when do you stop? There are a few Lancome ones that just came out that are tempting. I don’t even wear eyeshadow every day! I just love playing with the colors and trying new looks. I’m not much of an artist on paper, but on a face its very different. Unfortunately, a hobby like this can become very expensive very fast, so I think I need to cover my basics and them start to use them, and use them again, until some are used up (does that ever happen?) I have finished a few lipsticks in my life, and a few basic eyeshadow shades, like the ones you put from lid to brow, but that’s about it. I’d love to see an article explaining how to depot single eyeshadows into bigger palettes, that would save a lot of room and give the little hidden pots a chance to be used much more options. From what I’ve heard, its time consuming and messy, and I don’t want to ruin what I have. But if you have time to cover it, it would help all of us to consoladate our collections and see what we really need, and what we already have, which might make passing up some of these a little less painful, but save some money for next season!!

I’m always looking forward to new cosmetic launches especially from brands that I do collect and are my favorite, but lately I have been very disappointing in almost every brand. Ever since Urban Decay launched their NAKED palettes all the prestigious brands are creating nothing but the same over and over.. I’m tired of neutrals!!!! TF during the holidays they also created a neutral palette with a slight pop of color. Then before Valentines the Chocolate bar was introduce the same shades from previous holiday palette just renamed!. two or one shade that is different. Now this one the same golds, taupes and browns, seriously TF needs to upgrade their staff or how u call it ? ohh well production manager to sit and say we need to draw attention to the customers lately we have been producing the same we need to be more creative and introducing new shades other than the neutrals.. I just get annoyed..

Christine Avatar

I think the thing with Too Faced is that they’re very focused on naming everything to fit the palette’s theme, but they definitely repeat colors (either almost the same or very similar) and might benefit from having an established set of shades.

Andrea Avatar

Went to ulta today and they looked at me like I was crazy. They had no idea about a new too faced palette. Jokes on me as I drove 30 minutes to the store.

Amanda Avatar

I work at Ulta (also said this on your Country palette review) and didn’t see either of these new palettes on the shelves today! 🙁 I am so sorry for everyone who tried to get it today and couldn’t. I haven’t been up on my beauty blogs so I didn’t even know about this new release until now- good thing I stopped in!

Jennifer Avatar

You’re not alone Andrea. Same thing happened to me. I even called this afternoon to recheck, one associate was actually pretty rude about it said they would have known ahead of time 🙁 Boo for no palette and rude people!

Ashley Avatar

lady at my ulta said she heard from her too faced contact that 2 new palettes were coming out late summer around august but said she wasn’t to sure.

Heidi Avatar

There are multiple posts on Too Faced Facebook about the palettes not being available, but Too Faced hasn’t responded. Seems strange.

Christine Avatar

I sent an email to them this morning as well. I emailed late last week, which is when they confirmed June 1st again, but as we all know, June 1st came and went and the worst is really that Ulta employees don’t have any information about them at all (not their fault, just makes it even more difficult to figure out what’s going on!).

Amara Avatar

i hope i see this at ulta or sephora soon! i want to check this palette out. out of all of their palettes, this is the most appealing one i’ve seen so far.

Ashley Avatar

i’m trying to tell myself i don’t need both of the Palettes but they just call to me so much! At least i know i will be skipping out on the Cat eyes one it seems like its not as unique..but that just may be me? LOL
