Too Faced Melted Jelly Donut Melted Liquified Long-Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “dragon fruit pink.” It’s a bold, bright fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. Too Faced Melted Fuchsia (P, $21.00) is lighter, cooler-toned–more magenta. Urban Decay Crush (LE, $22.00) is lighter. Too Faced Melted Candy (P, $21.00) is redder, darker. Estee Lauder Dominant (P, $30.00) is slightly darker. Tom Ford Beauty Incorrigible (08) (LE, $49.00) is lighter, sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Roll the Dice (118) (P, $30.00) is darker. Maybelline Fuchsia Flash (P, $7.49) is cooler-toned, lighter. Buxom Exhibitionist (P, $21.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I really like how this gives me the long-wear of a lot of liquid lipstick formulas, but it is so much more comfortable to wear, though of course, it isn’t transfer-proof. It’s intensely pigmented with totally opaque coverage with hardly any product required. The color applies evenly and smoothly without settling into lip lines. This shade lasted for eight hours on me and left a stain behind. It was comfortable to wear, as it was neither drying nor hydrating. I didn’t have any issues with the color feathering or bleeding on me, but I’m not prone to either. If you prefer a more matte finish, these are easily worn down to a satin by a light blot or by applying less product (and it’ll still be quite opaque that way).

I have a Too Faced melted lipstick and my problem with it is the applicator. I don’t use it often, but when I do it’s hard to get the product to come out. I think it gets gunked up and hard near the top. Once I get a chunk to pop out it’s usable, until the next time I use it. Anyone else having this issue ?

Wow! That colour looks amazing on you! This is definitely a must buy for me. This would be a perfect colour for summer, especially parties and going out in the evenings. It seems like this is the summer colour. It looks similar to Bobby Brown’s Hot Collection hot pink lip pencil.

I picked this site unseen , no reviews nothing and now am stunned to see how gorgeous it looks 🙂
i hope it looks nice on me 🙂
you just made my day with the review … 🙂 so damn pretty on you 🙂

Too Faced is really knocking it out of the park with this line! They just look so comfortable, in spite of the long wear and intense pigment. I definitely need to pick this one up!

Wow, that’s quite a vavavoom shade! Looks great on you! I must have super dry lips because Melteds are somewhat drying on me. And surprisingly, they start out glossy and within about an hour, the gloss goes away leaving a matte finish. So because of my weird lips, I’ve stopped buying them though the shades are divine

Carla Avatar

The Melteds do take some getting used to, particularly if you’re accustomed to a very creamy/glossy feel/texture.
I do find it difficult to resist the urge to put a bit of gloss over my Melted, but even a drop will seriously compromise wear.
That said, I do find the Melted formula less drying and more comfortable than Lip Tars.
I really wish, however, that some cosmetics genius would come up with a gloss that can be worn over these “long-wear” liquid lipsticks *without* turning them into a gooey mess.
OCC and/or Too Faced, pleeeease work on this – I promise you’ll make a fortune! 🙂

Christine,

I do a lot of my shopping based on price-per-ounce. This is the price of a high-end lipstick, but with more than twice the amount of product of one. It appears to be a good deal — especially since you said it takes little product to last a long time.

But I was wondering how you evaluate value, integrating price-per-ounce, between formulas. Maybe it’s inexact and depends on the product type (cream, liquid and powder have to evaluated in their own group perhaps), but can you look at price-per-ounce across the board and make a good decision in your opinion? I hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Hi Jane,

For a liquid lipstick, it’s a fair amount of product. It is more in line with a squeeze-tube lipgloss (usually 0.4 to 0.5 fl. oz. from what I recall), so yes, absolutely, one tube should last you awhile and is way more than both a solid lipstick and even regular liquid lipsticks – think Kat Von D, Anastasia, etc. $21 is on the lower end for mid to high-end lipstick, and 0.40 fl. oz. is a lot.

Stila Stay All Day – 0.10 fl. oz./$22
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid – 0.10 fl. oz./$28
KVD Everlasting Liquid – 0.22 fl. oz./$20
Laura Mercier Paint Wash – 0.20 fl. oz./$28
Shiseido Lacquer Rouge – 0.25 fl. oz./$25
OCC Lip Tar – 0.33 fl. oz./$18

I’m assuming you’re just trying to figure out if this is a good price per ounce/value situation? I would say so. The latter three formulas are more comparable to TF’s because they don’t have that clingy dry down of Kat Von D/Anastasia/Hourglass. I personally would look at product type, and I would look at a cream and powder within each type, rather than compared to each other.

Hi christine,
These look so awesome. I want to get a couple of them but I’m worried: what happens to the sponge tip after a while? do they get messy and sticky

Carla Avatar

@Bee,
I’ve used mine several times now, and the tip is holding up fine.
It has become pretty well saturated with color, but it’s still soft and not clogged.
I find this type of applicator easier to control than click-pens or straight squeeze tubes, like the Lip Tars.

WOW! that’s bright! I love bright pinks for summer 🙂 Looks so good on your Christine! Now I have to go check my stash to see if I have anything remotely similar to it. hehehe

Taylor Avatar

Holy cow! Bright! I wonder how this compares to the new Miley Cyrus lipstick….I was going to pick that up for the summer, but I love this formula so much more that I think I might grab this instead!

Carla Avatar

I don’t own OCC Queen, but I’ve heard it described as “coral,” and Jelly Donut (which I do own) is not even a little bit coral – it’s much more in the magenta/fuchsia range.
In my opinion, Jelly Donut is more comparable to OCC Demure, though Jelly Donut is less purple, more pink than Demure.
My advice is, buy Jelly Donut, already! 🙂

Too bright for me, but glad this got such a great rating! And I love the name, “melted jelly donut” it always makes me smile. Melted Velvet is a new shade- – hope you will be reviewing that one too

I just reviewed Melted Villain and Melted Sugar and what a mess! Melted Villain left a nice stain. The color bled into the lines on me sadly. Melted Sugar is for super pale skin. I’m medium skintoned. This color here looks great on you. I can’t get into this liquid lipstick craze. Everything is either too messy or too drying

Maiko Avatar

Wow how amazing is that colour payoff, I am in love with the melted range and although I always lean towards the pinky nudes I am just so impressed by this colour.
xx

Yus, another Melted review!! I’m keen as beans to see reviews of all of these, as I LOVE my Melted Fig and I really want more shades, but I’m being really selective with what others I add to my collection.

Fran Avatar

I love this color! Of course — I already own Dominant, and a mini of Crush. But I do love this formula. Did you know they mix together well? Villain is a bit dark for me, so I mix it with Violet right on my lips and it looks beautiful, I get lots of compliments when I do it (it works especially well to apply the darker color from the edges in and the lighter color from the center out — I use a brush so I don’t end up with another shade on the applicator. These kinds of colors really light up my face. It looks beautiful on you, Christine!

Carla Avatar

I own Jelly Donut, and love it!
On NW15 me, it comes out a bright-but-not-quite-neon raspberry, which I LOVE, especially for warm weather.
I get about two to three hours wear out of an application, if I don’t eat or drink. I use a clear liner with it, because I *am* 50, after all, and a realist. 🙂
I “need” to try the Melted Metals next!
