Tom Ford Ravageur Patent Finish Lip Color
Tom Ford Ravageur Patent Finish Lip Color ($52.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark copper-red with warm undertones and a faint dusting of gold micro-shimmer. It had semi-opaque color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly while feeling comfortable and hydrating while worn. The color wore for over eight hours while the glossiness lasted for five hours on me. I couldn’t think of any dupes for this one–doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of darker, warmer copper/reds in gloss form like this shade. Tom Ford Beauty Ravageur (P, $54.00) is darker, more pigmented (90% similar). YSL No Taboo Chili (213) (P, $38.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Rouge Metal (P, $54.00) is more shimmery, brighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Tom Ford Stolen Cherry Patent Finish Lip Color ($52.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a bright, medium red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a light shine. This was the least glossy of the eight shades I tried. It had mostly opaque coverage, applied well, and lasted for hours and hours, but I wish it had more of the high-gloss shine of the other shades. This looks like a soft satin after four hours of wear. Urban Decay 69 (DC, $26.00) is cooler (95% similar). Giorgio Armani #400 Four Hundred (P, $38.00) is darker (90% similar). Guerlain Rouge Parade (920) (LE, $30.00) is darker, more muted, glossier (90% similar). MAC Tease Don't Touch (LE, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Ruby Woo (P, $21.00) is brighter, glossier (90% similar). MAC Patrick Woo (LE, $21.00) is more muted, glossier (90% similar). Anastasia Socialite (-, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Victoriana (LE, $21.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Cle de Peau Bugatti Red (17) (P, $48.00) is darker, more muted, glossier (90% similar). MAC Tenor Voice (LE, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier (90% similar). MAC Last Minute (P, $24.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty No Vacancy (P, $54.00) is darker (90% similar). NYX Apple Crisp (P, $5.99) is warmer (90% similar). MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Pat McGrath Blood 2 (P, $30.00) is darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Stolen Cherry (P, $54.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). MAC Send Me Sailing (LE, $21.00) is darker, more muted, glossier (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color ($52.00 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “lip stain with an ultra-glossy finish” that has “intense, vibrant color” and “long-lasting high shine.” The formula feels lightweight, almost watery, when initially applied but thickens and feels more like a moderately tacky gel after thirty to forty seconds. It had great staying power with the glossiness lasting for six hours and the color itself still going strong eight to ten hours later (after two meals and coffee)–by the end of the day, it has more of a natural sheen to it (like a lip stain) but looked even. I would forget that I was wearing it, which is a testament to how comfortable and hydrating it was throughout the day. The coverage is nearly opaque but has that slight translucency that you would expect to see in a lip stain. I didn’t experience feathering or bleeding on these two shades. It has a strong, vanilla cake scent–not your typical vanilla but something sweeter–and noticeably stronger than other Tom Ford lip products. The formula reminds me of products like YSL Glossy Stains, Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Lacquer but with a slightly thicker consistency. It’s a click-style product with a flocked, slanted applicator where the liquid color flows from. I’m not particularly fond of the applicator, though it is not rough or hard to use, but the flocking makes it harder to get really precise, clean edges (sometimes I felt like it gave a more jagged edge).

Once again, gorgeous! Ravageur is a shade that’s not very likely to be flattering on me, though, so at last I find one of these to not put on my wish list, lol!
YAY! Down to seven to choose from! LOL!
I received “infamy” a couple of days ago. It looks a bit like my TF “Kingston”. Except very shiny and that intensifies its brightness. I am not sure whether I can pull it off during a daytime look, but I do like that it leaves a nice stain on my lips.
It’s a very rich shade, but I can understand why you’d say it might be too bright!
Ooh, Ravageur looks pretty and hard to dupe, and it’s an orange copper red I can wear. Hmmm, if I make a dent in my red lipstick stash, that would be the one I would go for
And pigmented!
Looks great, Christine! Do you feel these liquid lipsticks are worth trying? Some look quite lovely (I’d need to use a lip liner to prevent bleeding).
I see you’re wearing Sphinx eye cream. In your experience, does Shinx require a color underneath it to show up on lids?
Hey Tracey!
I like them a lot, but I’m not a big fan of the applicator – and you don’t get a lot. So long as you can tolerate YSL’s scent, the Glossy Stains are very similar in overall wear/look/feel that I’d try that over these.
I reviewed and showed Sphinx here: http://www.temptalia.com/tom-ford-caviar-midnight-violet-sphinx-cream-color-for-eyes-reviews-photos-swatches
Christine, your answer to Tracey answers it for me as well! YSL Glossy Stains will get a looking over from me, too.
Although, I must admit that Stolen Cherry gave me both a hearty chuckle, and a longing to buy it, until I did the mental math .07 for $52.
Very pretty again! But as always I’m more a pink and peach kinda girl. Though I do like reds on others.
Drat! No peaches in the range yet.
I’m loving all of these! Ravageuer is so much more unique than I expected! I
It was! I was surprised there weren’t any dupes at all!
Wow these look beautiful! I’m not the biggest fan of reds on me but they’re so stunning on you!
Thank you, Fancie!
TF is trying to steal all my money!
I like both, again.
I might try one from YSL instead, though as they are ab it less expensive.
I like the Glossy Stains quite a bit for wear and opacity/coverage!
I like Stolen Cherry, a pretty colour. Ravageteur looks good on you but it’s too orange for me. Are there supposed to be dupes for Ravageteur – I only see ones for Stolen Cherry?
Hey Claire!
I mentioned in the review for Ravageur that I couldn’t think of any dupes – sorry!
Too bright for me! But I did want to comment on your close-up product photos, Christine. They are superb!
Thank you, Susan!
Darn! Sorry I can’t afford these. They look gorgeous and sound like something I’d really like to use.
They are really glossy!
Both are insanely lovely but Stolen Cherry would be one I could order without swatching.
Oh, nice!
Thank you for doing this review. I have typically very dry lips, which is why I became originally interested in TF patent finish lip gloss. However, $52 is quite a bit. Would you say that there is a huge difference between TF and the YSL glossy stains in regards to hydrating/drying out the lips?
These seem more moisturizing to me, but the YSL ones aren’t drying!
