Tom Ford Midnight Sea Cream & Powder Eye Color ($60.00 for 0.31 oz.) contains a sparkling, bluish-teal powder eyeshadow paired with a smoky taupe-brown cream eyeshadow, which you may know has Spring 2015, as it was released previously. The performance of the powder eyeshadow was better in this duo than the other two, and the cream eyeshadow performed as well this time as it did previously–that is to say, excellently. Layered, the two create a dirty, blackened blue-teal with a very sparkly, metallic sheen.

Midnight Sea (Eye Color) is a light-medium, bluish-teal with a sparkling, metallic finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that applied very smoothly and evenly. The sparkle seemed more integrated and a bit finer in this eyeshadow compared to the ones in the other duos. The consistency was still thin, almost wet/cream-like, and blended well on the skin without losing its base color. I didn’t have issues with fall out during application, but I did have some noticeable fall out over time. It lasted for eight and a half hours before creasing slightly on me. ColourPop Ibiza (P, $5.00) is brighter, darker. ColourPop Pop Rocks (P, $5.00) is darker, less metallic. Anastasia Venezia (LE, $12.00) is darker. Urban Decay Freeze (LE, $18.00) is warmer, less sparkly. Make Up For Ever D236 Lagoon Blue (P, $21.00) is brighter, darker. Makeup Geek Glass Slipper (P, $5.99) is lighter, less sparkly. Urban Decay Fringe (P) is less sparkly, darker. theBalm #23 (P, $6.50) is less sparkly. Tarina Tarantino Ozma (LE) is darker, less sparkly. Makeup Geek Mermaid (P, $5.99) is less sparkly. Disney by Sephora Caspian Sea (LE) is darker, less sparkly. Tom Ford Beauty Emerald Lust #3 (LE) is darker, less sparkly. Urban Decay Deep End (P, $18.00) is darker, less sparkly. Inglot #415 (P, $6.00) is brighter, less sparkly. Inglot #413 (P, $6.00) is less sparkly. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Spring 2015 is a blackened, smoky taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a silver-ish pearly shimmer. It’s one of the more complex shades that have been released in this formula, and I find it looks different depending on the opacity level and what you pair it with. It wore well for twelve hours without creasing or fading, and it applied with even, smooth, opaque color coverage with ease. Hourglass Atmosphere #5 (P) is a powder, less shimmery. Giorgio Armani #08 (P, $32.00) is a powder, less shimmery. MAC Trusted Instinct #5 (LE) is cooler-toned, powder. MAC Pepper (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned, less shimmery, powder. Burberry Graphite (No. 28) (P, $29.00) is powder, less shimmery, darker. Stila Substance (P) is lighter, powder. Chanel Tisse Gabrielle #4 (P) is powder, less shimmery. Chanel Tisse Gabrielle #1 (P) is powder, cooler-toned. Makeup Geek Moondust (P, $5.99) is lighter, warmer, powder. Dior Aventure (081) (P, $31.00) is grayer. MAC Bossa Blue (LE, $21.00) is cooler-toned, powder. MAC Legendary Black (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker, powder. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

I was told by my SA at Neimans King of Prussia that they pushed up the launch date to this week. She is supposed to call me when it arrives.

This looks so lovely on you!!! I bought Spring 2015 and caved in and p/o’d this one too … there is just something about that teal shadow that drew me in. I don’t have a dupe, and I know I would have regretted it later if I hadn’t bought it.

Andrea K Avatar

It kinda sucks that he came up with this right after releasing Spring 2014 (what an absurd name!) on its own. I have it, do just cannot justify to get this one. I might get the Colour Pop dupe and end it like that. Honestly!
This collection was like a bunch of re promotes, plus a couple of newbies. Are you reviewing Rose Solei, Christine?

Christine Avatar

LOL! Yes, the name is funny. I wonder how that naming conversation went 😉

I am going to review the lipsticks soon, hopefully. Trying to get the Urban Decay products finished, since it is launching sooner than Tom Ford’s color collection 🙂

This one is my absolute favorite. I canclled my pre-sale order and honestly, I may add it back to have the duo in my stash. It would be awesome for a beach vacay! You could just take 2 of these and be good to go! Love both looks you created!

I just swatched all the duos last night at Neiman SF. Surprisingly, I think I like this one and Black Oyster more than the other 2. They are just absolutely beautiful. I think with this one, we can be creative and layer with different shades of glitters and the possibilities are endless. Can’t wait for your review on Black Oyster. 🙂

Oh my that’s a beautiful combination! Forgive me for repeating this – as I’m sure its already been said in the comments somewhere as you’ve reviewed these over the past few days, but the packaging on the powder half of this duo is reminiscent of the ColourPop pigments, no? 🙂

I have Spring 2015 and just love the versatility of the shade. You can sheer it down for more natural looking taupe or build it up to a really dramatic smoky eye. And the color is beautifully complex, a mix of black, brown, pewter, – it looks different in different light. I have some teal shadows that I never use, and now I know what to do with them! As soon as I saw the teal shadow, I knew you couldn’t wait to get your hands on this one 😉

Mariella Avatar

Goodness, gracious and golly gosh but this is so pretty. It’s such an unusual pairing but it looks so beautiful and the looks you’ve done make me want ALL of this for both the eye looks!!! I have a question about the 2nd look – you’ve written that you used Sephora Suede Shoes liner on your lower lash line but there seems to be a gold liner there as well and it looks stunning! Do you recall what product/liner it was?

Mariella Avatar

Thanks, Christine. Coincidentally, I wore UD Chase (from the 15th Anniversary palette) under my lower lashes yesterday and it made for a very similar look. But what you’ve done is SO beyond words in terms of how lush and elegant it looks.

Christine I love how spring 2015 looks on you. I skipped it because I thought it might be a little too dark for me but looks very pretty with Midnight Sea. I’m sooo disappointed in Tom Ford for constantly making most everything limited edition and than releasing it again the next year. I know it is great for him but not for us. Having everyone storm out and purchase backups or worst yet missing out on the purchase and spending 4 times as much on ebay. Just so he could release it again the next year. Doesn’t he make enough off of his products as it is! I did purchase two of the Golden Peach Cream and Powder eye color because I love Pink Haze so much and I also the Pink Glow Compact which is of course a Limited Edition and overpriced. I wasn’t to impressed with his Cream Cheek color Pink Sand.

Jill Avatar

Gosh, I just want that teal color! Had I known they would release Spring 2015 with this, I wouldn’t have bought it and waited for this to come out. Blast!

luna Avatar

ohhh, ahhhh. i love a nice teal but this gives it a nice smokey effect. i bet it would be flattering for brown eyes to wear it. love the idea seems like it would be easier to wear.

Christine Avatar

The cream eyeshadow is actually a little larger. The cream eyeshadow is 0.24 oz. and the eyeshadow is 0.07 oz., according to Neiman Marcus – I don’t have boxes or labels, but the sizing of the components makes sense (the pan is around the size as your typical MAC/UD eyeshadow, which have 0.05 oz.).

Rachel R. Avatar

Wow, those are beautiful. The layered combo is breathtaking. Now I want to do a deep chocolate and aqua eye look. My bedroom is done in very similar colors…I never thought to use the combo my face.

Katya Avatar

Christine, am I right when I say that it’s a better deal to purchase these than the single shades (i.e. Spring 2015 by itself) in terms of how much cream product you get? And have you had the creasing I’ve heard rumors of with Spring 2015?

Christine Avatar

Hi Katya,

I reviewed Spring 2015 previously as well as here, and I didn’t have any issues with creasing either time for the reviews. I’ve worn Spring 2015 twice outside of testing and haven’t had issues with it!

You get 0.24 oz. of Cream Color for Eyes with this set, and the standalones contain 0.21 oz. ($200/oz.) — so it’s actually about $48 worth of cream eyeshadow, plus the powder eyeshadow (0.07 oz., and given it is a TF single, if he released it on its own, I’d expect to see a $28-$32 price tag).

If you don’t plan to use or even like the eyeshadows on top, then it would be better to spend $42 than $60!

Lulu Avatar

I just got this yesterday (because it looks so gorgeous on your) and I had some sort of application fail with it or something. There actually was no fallout and I didn’t get raccoon eyes. But it just didn’t look…amazing and read kind of muddy. The cream shadow was streaky, difficult to apply, and the blue was just MEH.

Amalia Avatar

About Tom Ford Midnight Sea Cream & Powder Eye Color, how close is the cream eyeshadow to Benefit Skinny Jeans Creaseless Cream Shadow? I know I am late, but TF eyeshadow duos are still available in my country. Thank you for your time.
