Mercurial

Tom Ford Beauty Mercurial Eye Color Quad ($88.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a new, limited edition set of shimmery neutrals–the least shimmery was more of a satin–that ran warmer-toned overall. All four shades were pigmented, long-wearing, and fairly easy to use, though the fourth shade was slightly drier compared to the other shades in the quad.

These are the gel-powder hybrid formula, so they can be used wet or dry and work best with a moderately-dense brush as they are a bit firmer (but not at all powdery!) in the pan if you’ve not tried a formula like it.

Mercurial #1

Mercurial #1 is a light, golden peach with strong, warm undertones and a smooth, metallic sheen. It had opaque color payoff applied dry as well as with a dampened brush, though the latter was slightly more metallic in finish.

The texture was smooth, moderately dense, and firm without being stiff–so no powderiness but it remained blendable! It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Mercurial #2

Mercurial #2 is a darker peach with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin with a slightly more “melted” appearance as it sat very well on my skin.

The texture was smooth, moderately dense but not stiff, so it picked up well with a dry brush and blended out well. It wore well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Mercurial #3

Mercurial #3 is a deep, plummy taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. The eyeshadow had a smooth, moderately texture that was more firmly-pressed into the pan but not stiff, so there was no powderiness while the product remained blendable on my skin.

It had rich pigmentation in a single layer, regardless of whether it was used dry or wet. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Mercurial #4

Mercurial #4 is a slightly muted, medium-dark red with warmer, more coppery undertones and less warm-toned sparkle over a metallic finish.

It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied well as a lid color but the shimmer separated a little more noticeably from the underlying pigment when blended along the edge so it wasn’t quite as nice in texture as the other three shades. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Thank you for getting this review up! I’ve been hemming and hawing over what to get for the Rouge sale that I could get excited over, and this is it! This looks like Honeymoon’s cooler sister and I’m so happy about that…I’ve had my eye on Honeymoon for a long time but it’s just too warm for me, so this should be perfect.

I ordered this and am waiting for it now! Glad I got it on sale! I hope it look as good on me as it does on you! It was between this and CT’s new LE Rose…

Lol calling it mercurial is really TF’s way of making his basic a$$ palette sound more exciting than it is. This is simply modern renaissance but all shimmery. So boring and genetic. Definitely not picking up. No offense

Frost Avatar

Since I got a single shadow years ago from TF, I’ve been eyeing for a quad. However, all shimmery shadows simply don’t work for hooded Asian eyes or … just in general more flat facial structure. I hope they’d have a matte base color for its quads.
