Tom Ford Flame (06) Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a brightened, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had rich pigmentation that covered the lips easily, while the consistency was lightweight, velvety, and glided on evenly. This shade wore well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Bobbi Brown Lady Ruba (P, $26.00) is a smidgen lighter. NARS Lana (P, $32.00) is glossier, lighter. Kat Von D Countess (P, $21.00) is more matte. MAC True Red (LE, $16.00) is glossier. Dior Trafalgar (844) (P, $34.00) is similar. MAC Dangerous (P, $16.00) is more matte. MAC Tomango (LE, $16.00) is brighter, more matte. MAC Scarlet Ibis (LE, $16.00) is more matte, darker. MAC Lady Danger (P, $16.00) is more matte. Inglot #103 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is glossier. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tom Ford Ruby Rush (07) Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. The pigmentation was excellent and yielded full coverage. It had a comfortable, lightweight texture that felt velvety and smooth so the color distributed evenly on the lips. On me, this shade lasted for over six hours and left a stain behind, though it was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Opera (LE, $16.00) is a smidgen lighter. MAC Stunner (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Kinky (LE, $16.00) is a touch darker. NARS Deadly Catch (LE, $26.00) is glossier. MAC Frank-n-furter (LE, $16.00) is darker. Kat Von D Hexagram (P, $21.00) is cooler-toned, more matte. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned, more matte. MAC Ruby Woo (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned, more matte. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC MAC Red (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned, more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tom Ford Velvet Cherry (08) Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a muted, reddish-brown with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had fairly opaque pigmentation, but this one seemed to have a little more translucency compared to other shades; I think if you had more naturally pigmented lips, that pigmentation might come through to a degree (e.g. pull out red tones in this if you had reddish lips). The formula had a little more slip, too, though it was comfortable to wear and applied evenly. It lasted for six hours on me, but I noticed slight settling of the color into lip lines after four and a half hours of wear. I didn’t find it drying, but it wasn’t hydrating either. NARS Sandra (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer. NARS Charlotte (P, $32.00) is glossier, cooler-toned. MAC Hearts Aflame (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Studded Kiss (LE, $16.00) is slightly darker. NARS 413 BLKR (LE, $26.00) is cooler-toned, more matte. NARS Amsterdam (P, $26.00) is more muted. MAC Extended Play (DC, $18.00) is similar. MAC Diva (P, $16.00) is similar. MAC Deeply Adored (LE, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Although I’m still not too sure about investing in a full size Tom Ford lipstick, given my mixed feeling on the Boys and Lips Collection…I’m still thinking about it. If one could only have one of the lipsticks from the permanent line, which shade would you recommend, Christine? I’m light to medium with peach tones. 🙂

I want in on this reply! I’m thinking about including one for my bday in Feb. I’m closer to light medium, true medium in summer with yellow u/t. But,I would really like to know your preffered formula! A shade suggestion or two would be great too.I look at Rouge g and get frustrated. So hard to pick with no counter!

Ohh..Garconne is soo lovely! I have been eyeing Gracie too quite a bit lately since in all reality, it will likely be spring/summer by the time the “spring” collections get done with my wallet. I know..I must try to slip one in before the summer collections come. I have a felling I will be ruined for other lipstick formulas form then on out. Thank you for your response.:)

All of them are pretty, but Velvet Cherry is my fave kind of color, thank goodness I already have the 2 dupes – MAC Hearts Aflame and Amsterdam ! Saved by the dupes

Velvet Cherry is the one that grabs my attention the most, so of course it’s the one with the lower grade. Ah well. The TF line is finally coming to our Nordstroms soon, so I’ll be able to swatch these all in person and see if I think they’re worth the money. We’ve already got the Lips and Boys line, so we’ll see.

Unfortunately, Burberry is the one line that seem dead set against bringing to our Nordstroms. I’m not sure why. Maybe because the mall already has a Burberry retailer in it? I’ve been eyeing the Lip Velvet line from them for awhile, so maybe I’ll jump on board with them anyway.

Even though I have several orange-reds, cool reds, and red-browns, I don’t have any of the dupes you listed. That means I can get all three of these, right? Yes, I think these will all be mine.

Ruby Rush and Velvet Cherry are beautiful colours – but hey, hasn’t Tom Ford recently released a bunch of lipsticks with the “boys” collection? Why are they releasing more?
Anyway all of these colours look stunning on you Christine – vibrant colours really suit you.
