Tom Ford Casablanca Lip Color
Tom Ford Casablanca Lip Color ($48.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a reddened plum with a cream finish and a natural shine. NARS Christina is redder and has a golden shimmer. Guerlain Rose Bengale is slightly brighter and has pale pink shimmer. MAC Red Dwarf is more berry, less pink. MAC Positively Dashing is slightly darker and pinker. MAC Deliciously Forbidden is brighter and pinker. Hourglass Nocturnal is very similar but a little redder. Dior Ruby is a touch darker. MAC Offshoot is browner. MAC Craving is very similar. Maybelline Bit of Berry is a little lighter and pinker.
As you can see, there are numerous shades that are similar to this one; some shades are a little redder, others are a bit pinker, and a few are fairly close. Casablanca has good color coverage, as it applied opaque and hides my lip freckle quite well. It has a creamy, smooth consistency that enables it to glide on evenly and easily. Even though it has opaque color and a creamy feel, it doesn’t sit heavily on the lips. It’s comfortable to wear, and it wears well–a solid five hours–while lightly moisturizing the lips.
Tom Ford’s lipstick range is vanilla-scented but doesn’t have any discernible taste. It comes in a square tube with gold metal accents and brown “paneling” on the exterior of the tube. I like that the outer tube doesn’t hold fingerprints, and there’s a satisfying click when you close the lipstick, so it stays together better if you toss it around in a bag. The brand’s logo is cut into the tip of the lipstick.

I really like the TF formula, but I do find myself wishing that the colours were a little more unique. Guerlain’s Rouge G’s are very wearable, but almost all of them have something that makes them different than other shades in the same family. It helps justify the price.
@Kate MacDonald I think it’s the nuance of shimmer in a lot of Rouge Gs–but I agree, there is, usually, something a little different in a Rouge G that keeps it from being super dupe-able.
This color is amazing!!!
That is a lovely colour. One I could really go for but at that price? No can do.
OMG this is a beautiful color! I love it. I don’t know if I am ready to pay 48$ for a lipstick yet! But seriously, it looks amazing.
P.S. I like your new layout. It is clean, easy on the eyes and loads much faster. 😀
I love this color – and very flattering on you!
I really like this shade!
In the photos, it looks very similar to MAC Brick-o-La, which I have and love a lot. Don’t think I could ever spend $48 on a lipstick though. Seems so wrong!
I so agree with you. It IS wrong!!!
Terri – why is it wrong? There’s clearly a market for lipsticks in that range, and if people are willing to spend the money on them, what does it matter? I’m willing to spend $48 on a Rouge G, so I probably would spend the money on a Tom Ford lipstick if I found a shade I *had* to have, but that’s my decision. Not yours, and not your place to judge me on what makes me happy.

Terri, if you don’t like it, just ignore it. I wouldn’t spend 48 dollars on a lipstick now (my budget doesn’t allow it and I tend to go for cheaper versions of colors I like) but if there are people who want to buy them, so be it. Imo life would be so boring if we only had a limited array of choices for things!
OH MY GOSH, that’s beautiful and beautiful on you, Christine. BTW, I love the whole new look of the web site.
It’s a gorgeous color, but I think if I were going to spend the money, I’d rather get the Guerlain Rose Bengale.
Wow, GORGEOUS on you, Christine! What a beautiful color…..I may have to save up and try some of the amazing TF products.
Uh-huh..that looks fabulous on you Christine! I love the look of TF lipsticks! Opaque, but never looking piled on and lipsticky if that makes any sense.
you got a Tom Ford lipstick as a PR sample?? WOHHOO you go girl!!!
Temptalia is the biggest blog! Her readership figures are massive!!
Anyway – this is lovely on you – i thought it would have had more brown tones in it from when I swatched on my hand!
This looks a bit mauve-y to me… I know you described the color as reddened plum, but would you say that it looks mauve as well? Sometimes, we describe the same color in different ways. 🙂
I don’t think I’d say mauve myself… not quite enough purple in it for me to say that.
For that price, I expect a platinum case.
That color looks so pretty but it’s so expensive.
This actually reminds me of Vintage Rose (Lancome), although Vintage Rose is a bit more muted.
How to you apply your lipstick? brush?…if so, which one? just from the tube? How so? Your lipstick applications are the best…smooth, perfect and beautiful even on shades that are not appealing…I love TF lipsticks….
I apply it from the tube 🙂 I just go around the curve of my lip. It’s almost like a purse my lips to get the center, and then I relax my lips as the lipstick comes down and out towards the outer corners.
Beautiful color and lovely on you but, $48 for lipstick? I just think that is ridiculous….
She recently had a post about why she reviews high end/luxury products. It’s worth a read.
I’d rather have one lipstick in an incredible formula that was the perfect shade than a hundred “okay” lipsticks!
It looks a bit like YSL #9 (from Rouge Couture) – So pretty!!!!!
this is one of the best lip colors you have ever worn. it is gorgeous on you. i spend a ton of money on makeup but have never spent that much on a lipstick. but i think i might now…..thanks
I haven’t seen anything from Tom Ford that I’m not LUSTING for. When I graduated and have a stable job, I would definitely save and splurge for these!
I’ ve spent tons of money for cosmetics (900usd as an ex. For the Nac venomous villain) but I.ve never spent that money for a sole lipstick. I did it once for a Tom Ford Blush lipstick and I am amazed by its quality, it’s texture and it’s applying, it’s my favorite lipstick , so as you can guess I will spent my euros for a Tom ford again. Not sure about this color as my skin is far more lighter than yours. Great work Christine. You’re such an inspiration!
OMG…How much does it look like MAC Craving lipstick??
Christina, how do you get your lipstick to last long? You’ve mentioned in some posts that you’ve gone for several hours. I would have to reapply every 20 mins for full coverage with MAC lipsticks. My lips just seem to soak all it in after a few minutes 🙁
@LeizelRafanan I just apply them straight to lips – no special technique or anything!
Oh. I thought noy way there will be a colour that will tempt me – I am happy with Lauder or Shiseido, but this colour looks fab. And I know I can trust your pictures, I ordered a few times only after jdging swatches from you.
It suits you great, also. Fresh, elegant and not a tad boring.
Thank you (or, no – not when I look on my account;-)
Thank you, Andreea! 🙂
