theBalm Argyle Instain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush Review, Photos, Swatches
theBalm Argyle Instain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush
theBalm Argyle Instain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush ($22.00 for 0.20 oz.) is described as a “petal pink.” It’s a bubblegum pink–a light-medium, blue-based pink–with a matte finish. NYX English Rose is more shimmery, darker. MAC Stay Pretty is warmer. MAC I’m the One is brighter. Chanel Pink Explosion is slightly darker. Bobbi Brown Pastel Pink is a bit darker. See comparison swatches.
It had rich, true-to-pan color payoff. It packs quite a punch, so I’d recommend using a light hand to build up the color to your desired intensity. The texture is soft, finely-milled but not powdery. It blends well if you use a light touch, but I noticed that it has a tendency to stick where it’s placed once it is buffed into the skin to a degree. Argyle lasted well without fading or becoming patchy for a solid ten hours, so it is indeed long-wearing. It removed easily, though, with makeup remover, whereas a traditional stain would still leave something behind, so I wouldn’t describe this as a cheek stain, but it was an exceptionally long-wearing powder blush.

While I love that these blushes are pigmented, I have never been able to master blending on the cheek so the lack of blendability is a huge bummer.
very beautiful
So glad you reviewed this! I absolutely love thebalm but was waiting for your opinion/swatches on these before I picked any up. Such an all around great brand!
They’re a lovely brand!
Very cute. I was going to pick one of these up at theBalm’s recent sale, but decided again it since there weren’t too many reviews then.
Same here!
The pink color looks gorgeous. Christine, do you think MAC Pink Swoon is a good dupe for this? Cuz I don’t have the Balm where I live
I think Pink Swoon is even cooler-toned.
That may just be the pinkest pink blush ever 🙂 Very cute.
This is a bit light for me, but how pretty! The long-wearing factor wins it big points in my book 🙂
Do you think maybe applying with a stippling brush and then using a clean brush to blend would help to ensure that you won’t accidentally get “clown cheeks”?
Hi Alyssa!
You can definitely do that, but a light hand works just fine (even with a blush brush) 🙂
I’m so happy to see you review this line of TheBalm’s blushes! Do you happen to have reviews of the other shades? c:
Hi Hannah,
This is the only shade I have reviewed!
I absolutely adore these blushes. I bought 3 of them when they had their 50% off sale awhile back right after these launched. If they ever have a sale like that again I’ll get at least one more of them. Beautiful shades!
I have Swiss Dot, which is a coral, and it’s gorgeous! Argyle is on my to-buy list. I love theBalm!
Good to hear that Swiss Dot is nice, too!
I got a sample of Swiss Dot in a Birchbox this month. I love the color and need to buy one in full size when I have the $$ to spare!
Wow, it looks so beautiful on you!! I love TheBalm.
Thank you, Cassandra!
Can you please tell me how this compares to Tarte Dollface? Thanks.
Dollface is lighter, cooler-toned.
I’ve been collecting blushes lately and love using them. I recently got theBalm’s Frat Boy and Down Boy blushes as well as Mary-Lou Manizer from their Hautelook sale. All-around great brand! This will be on my wishlist down the road. It’ll take a while for me to hit the pan on the other two I just bought.
I wondered if you were going to be reviewing these! TheBalm is my favourite brand, I want ALL of these!!
Man, they always do an awesome job on the packaging! It will probably be too light on my skin, but I may just get it for the cute packaging.
they’ve got a bunch more colors; i’m sure you can find one that’ll fit you nicely!
Ah, I’ve been waiting for you to review these! Will you be reviewing any of the others? 🙂
I don’t have anything scheduled right now!
I love the packaging, would love to get one of this 😀 .
The silly thing that annoys me with this product is where we can read: “Wear it well” and then translated to french “Vous va bien” in the inside on the package.
The actual correct translation would have been “Portez le bien”… It’s just a bit annoying that companies try to look fancier by writing french things on their product and don’t do it correctly… :S
Is it supposed to be a translation, or just a separate phrase written in French?
I actually saw that and came here to see if anyone would say something about it :p
Yeah, that’s weird. And silly. I guess “Portez” doesn’t flow as well.
Adorable package and pretty color!
this looks soooooo beautiful! i’m going to need this, pink blushes look so healthy,in my opinion, and since this is a stain annnnnd has an A rating, *MUST HAVE*
I’ve been looking forward to these! So excited to see you review them!
If you can, would you be able to please review the other Instain blushes? The Instain colours are gorgeous and the packaging is so cute! It is so hard to decide!!
If you can, would you be able to review the other Instain blushes? The colours are great and I love the packaging, but it makes it really hard to choose!!!
Wow, that’s actually lovely!
The color looks lovely on you! I just got Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Pale Pink 🙁 are the colors similar?
Pale Pink is a bit darker but they’re similar.
