Tarteist

Tarte Tarteist Pro to Go Eyeshadow Palette (#23.00 for 0.18 oz.) includes three matte eyeshadows and three shimmer eyeshadows, which all ran warm in undertone. It’s a compact, cardboard palette that is slim and portable. The palette felt compact without feeling tiny, and the pans were a good size and fit my eye brushes without issue. I liked the way the eyeshadows applied, but the mattes would perform better over a primer (better wear and more payoff from the get-go) as is often the case with Tarte’s matte formula. The shimmery eyeshadows worked well over bare skin as well as over primer, but primer did not feel necessary except for really long-wear.

Drive

Drive is a soft brown with a hint of pink and a matte finish. It had good color payoff paired with a very smooth, finely-milled consistency that had some powdery kickup but did not sheer out to nothingness–it would be best over a primer, though. It lasted for seven hours on my bare lids.

Ingredients

Talc, mica, silica, boron nitride, zinc stearate, ethylhexyl palmitate, sodium dehydroacetate, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, vanillin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hexylene glycol, vanilla planifolia fruit extract, kaolin, manganese violet (CI 77742), titanium dioxide (CI 77891), iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, 77499), ultramarines (CI 77007).

Stylin

Stylin is a deep, muted brown with rosy undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was true-to-pan and opaque, while the texture was soft, smooth, and finely-milled with just a bit of powderiness in the pan (but it did not appear dry or dusty on the lid). It wore well for seven hours before fading noticeably.

Ingredients

Talc, mica, silica, boron nitride, ethylhexyl palmitate, zinc stearate, sodium dehydroacetate, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, vanillin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hexylene glycol, vanilla planifolia fruit extract, kaolin, carmine (CI 75470), iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, 77499), ultramarines (CI 77007), manganese violet (CI 77742).

Boss

Boss is a deep bronze with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It was intensely pigmented with a dense, buttery texture that felt like a cream eyeshadow but had less slip. It applied evenly to the lid and was easily blended out along the edges. The color wore well for eight hours on me.

Ingredients

Mica, caprylic/capric triglyceride, boron nitride, zinc stearate, silica, talc, sodium dehydroacetate, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, vanillin, hexylene glycol, vanilla planifolia fruit extract, kaolin, copper powder (CI 77400), bronze powder (CI 77400), titanium dioxide (CI 77891), iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77499), yellow 5 lake (CI 19140).

Hype

Hype is a bright, golden copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The color payoff was fantastic; completely opaque and took very little product to do so. The consistency was soft, a little looser in the pan but dense (almost like a pressed pigment), so it was the type of texture that I felt needed to be pressed and worked into the skin, and then it looked smoother and “melted” on the lid. This shade started to crease after eight hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, caprylic/capric triglyceride, talc, boron nitride, zinc stearate, sodium dehydroacetate, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, vanillin, hexylene glycol, tin oxide, vanilla planifolia fruit extract, kaolin, silica, titanium dioxide (CI 77891), iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77499).

Crisp

Crisp is a medium-dark brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was lightly dusty but very smooth and finely-milled–it felt silky without being too thin. It had good color coverage that sat well on the lid and built-up well or sheered out if desired (without sheering out instantly, though). The eyeshadow showed signs of fading after seven hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, talc, silica, boron nitride, zinc stearate, ethylhexyl palmitate, sodium dehydroacetate, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, vanillin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hexylene glycol, vanilla planifolia fruit extract, kaolin, iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, 77499), titanium dioxide (CI 77891), manganese violet (CI 77742).

Dominate

Dominate is a medium-dark plum with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The pigmentation was great; rich and opaque with a creamy, smooth texture that was easy to work with on bare skin. I had no problems blending it out or getting even, opaque coverage on the lid. It wore well for eight hours before creasing on me.

Ingredients

Mica, ethylhexyl palmitate, boron nitride, zinc stearate, talc, silica, sodium dehydroacetate, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, vanillin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hexylene glycol, vanilla planifolia fruit extract, kaolin, carmine (CI 75470), copper powder (CI 77400), iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, 77499), titanium dioxide (CI 77891).

I bought this as part of the $20 off promotion at Sephora — thought I’d take a chance since I’m a little wary of warm palettes, some of which can clash with my skin tone. But I like this one! (Nothing too brightly orange here.) I was very pleasantly surprised at the pigmentation — as good as many much more expensive palettes I have.

I like the look you created, too.

I told myself I was done with holiday shopping but based on your review I picked this little bad boy up last night! I have a similar palette that is cool toned that I love but I was in need of a warmed up version. Plus with the 30% off Tarte was running it came to $21, which seems to be a steal considering what you have to say about it. Thanks as always for the great reviews!

I love this little palette! I got it the minute.it released because I love the full sized Pro Palette and wanted this one too. For me, te Pro formula is the best Tarte palette by far.I also love my Swamp Queen Palette.

Sorry, Kim, when I posted the review, the info had changed to Limited Edition, but Tarte’s website doesn’t list it as LE and Sephora’s changed it as well, so I’m not sure what is the truth. Usually, Tarte does indicate “limited edition” on their site.
