Tarte Sweet Indulgences Holiday Gift Set
Tarte Sweet Indulgences Holiday Gift Set ($59.97 for 2.60 oz.) is a three-piece set, where there are three, slim square boxes that are designed to be given as gifts. You can keep them all for yourself, break the set up, or gift the entire thing. One box contains two blushes and three lip colors, another with three eyeliners and two mascaras, and a third with two eyeshadow palettes (eight shades in each). Overall, I think the Lip Cremes and the Eyeshadows are the stars, but the rest leaves me unimpressed: one blush was a complete miss (worst product in the set), while the three eyeliners were rougher, drier formula. Some of the eyeshadows are very nice, others are sheerer and don’t perform as well. I noticed the eyeshadow formula seemed thinner in this palette across the board, which made a lot of shades seem less powdery, but some were under-pigmented. There’s plenty of “value” to the set, but I think it just depends on what you wanted most.
Pampered is a pink-coral with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It looks more matte applied (doesn’t really get luminous or satiny when blended out), and the texture was smooth but not as soft as other shades in the range have been. The color payoff was good, while the blush itself lasted for nine hours (three shy of the 12-hour claim, though). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Savored is a warm, rosy plum with a satiny sheen. The texture was incredibly stiff–just hard to get any color out of it during application–and I found it harder to blend on the skin. I scraped off the first few layers, and it was slightly improved but still dismal. It seemed to wear around seven hours or so, but it was so sheer, it was hard to tell. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Indulging is a muted, fuchsia pink with a cream finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage with a high-shine finish. The color deposited somewhat unevenly with minor settling into lip lines. It was lightly tacky and lasted for three hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Rare is a warm rose pink with a soft, frosted sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, lasted for four hours, and was lightly hydrating. It was mint-scented, but I didn’t notice much of a tingle beyond the very initial moment. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Wonder is a brightened, medium-dark raspberry pink with a soft shine. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that went on evenly and smoothly. The color wore well for four and a half hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Pinky Promise is a muted, medium rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nice color payoff with a soft, silky texture. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Taupe of the World is a warm-toned, medium-dark taupe brown with a semi-matte finish. The texture was somewhat powdery, so it wasn’t fully opaque. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
You Look Mauveless is a medium-dark plum with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was mostly opaque and had a soft, silky consistency. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Just Malt Away is a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. The powder was soft, blendable, and silky, while it yielded full color coverage. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Pampered Pink is a light-medium, warm pink with a soft, frosted finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a slightly powdery consistency. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Dare to Be Gold is a warm, coppery bronze with a metallic sheen. It wasn’t fully pigmented, and the texture felt thinner and drier, though not too difficult to work with on the eye. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Show Plum Love is a rich, plummy purple with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had fantastic color payoff with a soft, blendable consistency. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Wind Down Brown is a dark, neutral brown with a matte finish. It had decent pigmentation, but it didn’t adhere as well to the skin, so a primer would help with this particular shade. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Vanilla Candles is a light beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It is soft, a smidgen powdery, with fairly good color payoff. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Coming Up Roses is a muted plum with a soft, frosted finish. The texture was on the powdery side, so the color payoff wasn’t great. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Hazelnut Bon Bons is a muted, medium brown with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation and was somewhat powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Champagne Bubble Bath is a brightened peach with a frosted, slightly metallic, finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth texture. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Bronze Cuff is a muted, golden brown with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had nice pigmentation and a soft, buttery texture. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Feeling Grey-t is a light-medium, warm taupe brown with a matte finish. It was somewhat powdery, though it still had decent pigmentation. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Espresso Yourself is a cool-toned taupe-gray with a matte finish. It was sheer, and the consistency was powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Cinnamon Latte is a deepened, purpled-brown with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It was powdery and semi-sheer. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Charcoal is a dark gray with cool undertones and a frosted shimmer. It had semi-sheer color payoff in one stroke that was buildable to more opaque coverage in two to three layers. It lasted for seven hours on me, but it was painful to apply to the lash line. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Bronze is a warm, chocolate bronze-brown with a frosted shimmer. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, but it just had a drier, more dragging texture that made it harder to apply. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Plum is a muted, medium-dark purple with a pearly sheen. It had decent color payoff in one go, but I wish the texture was less dry and easier to apply. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

There are some really nice colours in the set (leaving aside the continued overload of neutrals), but it certainly seems like a bit of a mixed bag! I wonder what happened with that blush… I know Tarte’s formula can be a little stiffer at times (at least, that’s what I’ve found with time), but when you’re breaking ou the spatula…
I was like, “hello? hello? any pigment home?”
Huh. I was expecting a bit more. Or at least more consistency and not this many letdowns 🙁
I was really sad about the Savored blush!
Well that was all over the place grade wise. I guess there’s still enough good to justify it for those interested.
Unfortunately, that was very much the case 🙁
those eyeliners look terrible! I love the not-terrible blush, but we can’t get this set in canada anyway, so maybe i should be glad it’s not perfect!
The not-terrible blush, lol!
I really wanted to like this set and was thinking about dividing it into gifts. It seemed like a great value for all you get, but the quality just not up to par. I’m pretty dissapointed. Thanks for the review 😀
No prob, Stephanie!
This honestly looks like a great set for someone getting started with makeup. If I had a teen, I would buy it for her. I actually ordered this and then canceled my order because I really don’t need it, even if it is a great deal. The colors are very similar to several other Tarte palettes that I own, I have enough blush to last a lifetime, I don’t really use eyeliner very often, and I still have two unopened tubes of Tarte Mascara from LAST YEAR’s set. But, if you aren’t like me and have a normal amount of makeup or are looking to build a collection, this really is a great value.
Yes, there are a LOT of Tarte repeats, even if they are technically new shades, I noticed that many of the dupes I pulled for each eyeshadow… always included one or more of Tarte’s own past eyeshadows.
I wish they did one with the smoldereye pencils – would definitely buy that! I know they had a set like that on hautelook a while back that I now wish I had bought :s I cannot stand stiff blushes sigh….have passed on Exposed so many times exactly because of that. Come on Tarte…you can do better:)
Definitely would have been better! These almost feel like no-name eyeliners!
I love the concept and colors but the quality is definitely inconsistent. I totally see what you mean about the eyeliners and the blush. Savored would have been perfect if it wasn’t so sheer. I would have been all over this set if the quality matched the quantity.
I wish Savored wasn’t such a dud!
Yeesh… Savored looks awful! I don’t know why, but I always overlook Tarte. Even when their products are absolutely amazing, it’s just not a brand that calls to me!
Probably good for your wallet, though 😉
Thank you for saving me $60!!
No prob, Becca! 🙂
I like about half of the eyeshadows in each palette, the darker lip creme is OK, and maybe the plum eyeliner. Not worth it for me as I wouldn’t want to gift the extras with the poor reviews. I’m still thinking about getting the Tarte Bon Voyage set at Sephora if I can find a VIB sale code 🙂
Hope you can get a code!
Yeah, I was disappointed in a Tarte holiday set a few years ago (the mirrored box), but I’ve been staying clear (although tempting) of sets from Tarte.
I wonder if they quality goes down on holiday sets when they are mass produced? Do they use a cheaper formula to get the most profit?
Monica.
I think Tarte mostly does sets, so I don’t find that they differ that drastically from set to set, though with other brands, it sometimes feels that way.
if they can imprint their shadows, they can print the actual shadow name underneath the colors.
I wish they had printed them, too!
wow the grades are all over the place. Thanks for reviewing all these!
They are 🙁
I wish the eye palettes were sold on their own–I love a mauve/taupe color scheme. Looks like I’ll just have to make my own palette with Makeup Geeks and MUFE Artist shadows 🙂
Sounds like a fun plan to me!
Very disappointed! It could have been great!
Totally agree!
Wow, I’m shocked about the F on the Tarte Blush. They usually have very nice blushes–I absolutely love my Tarte Chic to Cheek Blush Set that I bought this holiday. And my eyes are wincing just thinking about the dry eyeliners dragging across it. But if you like the shadows and lipsticks, this set might still be of interest.
I don’t LOVE Tarte’s blushes, but they are usually decent to good (just don’t wear the 12-hours as claimed). Savored was a total miss, though.
I snagged mine for the sale price. I am disappointed in Savored’s grade. I’m a pale girl, so maybe it’ll work on me. I get along with their blushes and eyeshadows. I don’t have a lot of their eyeshadows, so this is good way for me to get them, even though I said I didn’t need more neutrals. Ah, well. I do like their lip cremes, and the gloss looks nice. We’ll see…
Hopefully yours isn’t so stiff! I know Muse had wayyy better luck with hers.
Good to know. I’m glad hers was good. I’ll have to check out her swatches, too.
I wonder if with the clay base, if environmental humidity or something affects the blushes. It seems like people report a lot of variation with them, in general.
I love the layout of the set and the packaging. I like the eye shadow sets. Not sure I’d purchase it unless I had a lot of extra cash, because nothing seems like a must have.
I like the way the eyeshadow palettes are laid out!
Just registered with Temptalia today! I was about to purchase this set. I’ve been eyeing it since midnight, I just was too lazy to place the order that late. I’m so glad I thought to come over here before placing the order. The eyeshadows are gorgeous, but I actually gasped when I came to the swatch of the second blush. I’d rather spend my money on items I’ll love, than get a set that looks to be an amazing value, but in reality isn’t all that great. Thank you!
Thanks for joining, Leah! 🙂
Thanks! As a follow-up to this post, despite saying I wasn’t going to order this, I ordered it…and I think I may send it back (and lose the cost of shipping both ways). I should’ve listened to you! The eyeshadow quality is lacking. There is little pigmentation, and the shimmers barely show up. It looks beautiful, but it’s just too soft on my eyes. The blushes are nothing special, and the lip creme, while very long-lasting, is pretty drying. I much prefer my Neutrogena Moisture Stick for a lip crayon.
:-/
Hi Christine….lovely as usual. Your skin looks wonderful!
Can u tell me what u use on your brows to give them such a shiny finish? Is it a gel to hold them in place? If so, can you recommend a good one that really holds unruly brows and has no color?
Also, have you found a dupe for Lorac Perfectly Lit “Radiant” or “Spotlight”?
Lastly…..what is the creamiest, most pigmented and moisturizing, long-lasting lipstick?
Thx
Rhonda in Georgia
Hi Rhonda,
I use MAC Brun eyeshadow and MAC Clear Brow Gel or Marc Jacobs’ Brow Gel.
I don’t think I have LORAC Radiant or Spotlight!
Maybe Givenchy Le Rouge or Guerlain Rouge G? Rouge G isn’t really creamy, creamy.
The Rare lip color and the eyeshadow palates are stunning! That blush is a shame =/ It looks so beautiful in the pan
The lip colors were nice!
I notice the back of the blushes say Made In China. The regular Tarte blushes (ie blushes not in kits) are all Made In USA. Wonder if that’s the reason for the subpar quality.
It is possible!
I am sending mine back. My eyeshadows weren’t very pigmented, and they were dry (not buttery as some described) . The colors didn’t match what I saw on QVC and a lot of lilac tones. Even the dark shades didn’t pack a punch. The eyeliners were wet’n’wild quality. The mascara I opened was dry and had a faint smell. Perhaps it was old. The blushes were basically the same and didn’t show up well on me. I liked the lipstick things for the most part and the gloss was a pretty shade but very sticky and had to dip back into the tube several times when applying. It was a real bummer of a set.
The blush I got (savored) was highly pigmented, I guess it’s a hit or a miss.
Oooh! Nice!
