Tarte Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be “pigmented” with a “glossy” and “non-sticky” finish and have a hydrating formula to back it up. There are nine shades available, and it is a new, permanent formula. The consistency is light-medium in weight–more gel-like with a very smooth, lightly creamy texture. It’s more like a gloss than merely a liquid lipstick, so it has a glossier finish overall. Most of the shades were semi-opaque to fully opaque, and even the darker shades applied evenly for the most part (that was a surprise!). They’re comfortable to wear, lightly hydrating, and non-sticky over time. The wear varied between three to five hours for me. I didn’t notice any scent or taste when testing these.

Tarte Fave Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “plum berry.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark plum with a cream finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly. I didn’t experience feathering/bleeding when wearing this shade for the four and a half hours it lasted. Tom Ford Beauty Wet Violet (P, $45.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Maybelline Obsessed (P, $7.99) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Tarte Poison Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “black plum.” It’s a dark, purply-plum with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff that went on evenly overall, but it wasn’t quite as smooth in appearance (the darker color seemed to highlight lip lines close-up) compared to other shades. It wore for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating. Too Faced Melted Villain (P, $21.00) is cooler, less glossy (85% similar). Makeup Geek Backstage (P, $15.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (85% similar). Giorgio Armani #604 (P, $29.00) is lighter, less pigmented (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Tarte WCW Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “berry.” It’s a medium-dark, reddish plum with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with even coverage. The texture was smooth, comfortable to wear, but some of the color sat in lip lines noticeably. This shade wore four hours and was moisturizing over time. Anastasia Berry (-, $16.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Perpetual Holiday (P, $24.00) is cooler (90% similar). NARS Plato's (LE, $26.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC At Your Best You Are (LE, $21.00) is cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Fatale (P, $54.00) is brighter, warmer (95% similar). Dior Intrigue (995) (P, $35.00) is lighter (85% similar). Maybelline Obsessed (P, $7.99) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Saucy Little Thing (P, $21.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Peer Pressure (LE, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Modern Lure (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Maybelline Caviar Couture (050) (P, $8.99) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). MAC Sultana (LE, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). ColourPop Furry (LE, $10.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Chanel Distinction (21) (P, $34.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Revlon Embellished (DC, $7.49) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). MAC Purple Mocha (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Oh lords, I’ve been on a no-buy for lip gloss for 8 months now, but these might be the exceptions. Two purples that get an A/A- and have no close dupes? Poison is especially impressive, given how hard it is to formulate this color. And WCW is a dupe for Tom Ford Orchid but it’s $ 32 cheaper AND has almost 3x more product (.20 oz vs. .07 oz)?? Tarte really knows how to go for my wallet! My favorite is Fave, but I might cave and get the other 2 as well

Wow, finally a dark liquid lip color that applied evenly! Did you experience any feathering or migrating around the lips?
Thank you for the awesome swatches as usual Christine 🙂

I tried Poison at my work, and I wore it for about 3 hours there. I noticed as it settled, yes, it kind of enhanced my lines, but it changed color. It went from a nice dark plum, to a gorgeous darker purple grey color! (My favorite Nyx color “Up the Bass” is about that same color) When I went to wipe the remaining color off, even with a makeup removing wipe, it wouldn’t budge! I had grey/purple stained lip lines with a slight greyish/purplish tinge to my lips until I showered the next morning! That didn’t upset me, but I’m sure other people might not like that effect. Out of all the shades we tried, that one had the absolute most pigment!
