Tarte Hella Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint
Tarte Hella Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “white nude.” It’s a light, warm peach with a cream finish. This was one of the worst shades in the range, as it was uneven and tended to gather in lip lines, so it just didn’t look as smooth applied. It had good color payoff, lasted for three hours, and was hydrating. ColourPop La Jolla (P, $8.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC C-Thru (P, $21.00) is more muted (95% similar). LORAC Barista (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Naked Dolly (LE, ) is darker, more muted, less pigmented (90% similar). Tarte Obvi Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “warm nude.” It’s a medium, peachy-brown with warm undertones and a fine, white pearl. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly but some color sat in lip lines, which became more noticeable as time went on. The gloss lasted for three hours, was lightly moisturizing, and comfortable to wear. Dose of Colors Barely There (LE, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Chic Supremacy (LE, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Revlon HD Smoky Topaz (570) (DC, $8.99) is darker (90% similar). MAC Spanking Haute (LE, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Blissful (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Sephora Cappuccino (02) (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Too Faced Peach-sicle (P, $19.00) is lighter, less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). MAC Overspiced (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Coral of the Wild (LE, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Maybelline Nude Illusion (060) (P, $8.99) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Tarte Slay Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as an “orchid.” It’s a muted, medium-dark plummy purple with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that applied well and wore for four hours on me. The formula was moisturizing while worn. Marc Jacobs Beauty Make Me (340) (P, $29.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Snuggle Up (LE, $20.00) is lighter, brighter (80% similar). Urban Decay Jawbreaker (P, $20.00) is brighter (80% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tarte Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be “pigmented” with a “glossy” and “non-sticky” finish and have a hydrating formula to back it up. There are nine shades available, and it is a new, permanent formula. The consistency is light-medium in weight–more gel-like with a very smooth, lightly creamy texture. It’s more like a gloss than merely a liquid lipstick, so it has a glossier finish overall. Most of the shades were semi-opaque to fully opaque, and even the darker shades applied evenly for the most part (that was a surprise!). They’re comfortable to wear, lightly hydrating, and non-sticky over time. The wear varied between three to five hours for me. I didn’t notice any scent or taste when testing these.

I NEED slay! So pretty and relatively unique 😀
It is! Hard to find in a gloss formula.
Peachy browns, Obvi, always look wonderful on you. I ended up picking up two of these during the sephora sale: Fave and Slay, the plum shades.
I love the opaque glossiness, but pare down the finish by using my finger to sheer it out over my lips. It ends up looking more glowy than glossy and the colour is still fairly opaque but definitely sheerer. Seems counterproductive to do that with a pigmented product, but I do the same with highly pigmented lipsticks.. The full on intensity is too sculpted for me. I think that look works when you have really great shape to your lips. My lip line is not so precise.
Do you dab on with fingers to begin with or do you use the applicator to get a bit on, then use fingers?
I use the applicator to put a couple of dots on the center of my lips and then my baby finger to apply. You have a really nice strong lip line. I don’t and faking it with lip liner is not my favourite thing either so it just ends up looking better if I apply it more casually if that makes any sense.
I’m glad Slay did well, it looks gorgeous!
Yay!
Hella is hella scary!! Slay is on my must-buy list !! It’s such a unique color, a warm purple that’s been cooled down with gray and blue tones.
Slay is a nice one!
Slay is really, really pretty. When I saw “orchid,” I was expecting a bright. But I like the muted, slightly grayish tinge to it.
Haha, maybe like the underside of an actual orchid?
There you go! 🙂
Slay is just amazing!!! It is such a lovely *soft* purple that could be an everyday type of shade due to it not being OTT or too extreme.
And I actually like Obvi, too! Catch is, I already have Revlon HD Smokey Topaz for a great nude gloss. So Idk about getting its near double.
Slay is quite nice. I’m said about Hella, being from NorCal I wanted a hella good Hella but I was defeated when I saw it.
I’m glad I read this – I just about nixed these lip paints from my list since all of the ones I tried were so bad – Slay looks promising, though, now I’m going to have to try!
I have Slay and absolutely LOVE it! The color and formula are really unique. Very pleasant to wear and I was too surprised by how pigmented the color is. It looks great on you too, Christine!
I haven’t been so enamored with a shade of lipstick in a looonnngg time as I am with slay. It is stunning and definitely a unique color to anything i have in my collection. It is a must have for me! You rocked all of these though, Christine!
WOW — Slay makes your eyes look stunning!
Despite its poor performance i still want hella. Im always on the lookout for lip colors lighter than my natural lip shade, something about them i find has an effect on the entire face that makes it look very youthful
