Tarte Cray Cray Tarteist Lip Paint
Tarte Cray Cray Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bold, bright, medium-dark orange with strong red undertones and a matte finish. The texture of this one was thicker and more mousse-like, and as a result, it had a much drier/more matte finish compared to other shades in the range. The formula was also more drying while worn, though it had less transfer and didn’t streak or settle into lip lines. The color wore for five and a half hours on me. Dose of Colors Hot Fire (LE, $18.00) is cooler (95% similar). Estee Lauder Volatile (P, $32.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Red Square (P, $27.00) is more muted (95% similar). Tarte Selfish Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark pink with warm undertones and a natural sheen–almost like a “warm” fuchsia. It had opaque color coverage, but it applied a little unevenly (especially on my upper lip) and some of the color gravitated towards lip lines. The brightness of the color made this appear less obvious, so it didn’t seem obvious enough to be a deal-breaker (compared to some of the other shades). It wore well for six and a half hours and left a stain behind, while the formula was somewhat drying. NARS Greta (P, $34.00) is glossier (95% similar). MAC A Killing Smile (LE, $19.00) is more muted (95% similar). Estee Lauder Jealous (P, $32.00) is warmer (95% similar). Tarte So Fetch Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is bright, medium coral-pink with warm undertones and a soft sheen. It had rich, opaque color payoff with a smooth, even consistency that applied fairly well with just a few, hard-to-notice streaks that seemed to settle after an hour (as the shine wore away). The color wore well for five hours and was somewhat drying. NYX Street Cred (P, $6.00) is more muted, cooler (95% similar). Burberry Bright Crimson (P, $34.00) is darker (95% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a pigmented, matte liquid lipstick that’s long-wearing. First thing to note is that these never fully dry down, so they are not transfer-proof, but they are less drying than the typical liquid lipstick that dries down completely. They are quite pigmented and despite transferring onto cups, while you eat, and so forth, a lot of the color is left behind. You can also touch-up without having to completely remove the formula. The texture is inconsistent; some shades are thin and have a soft shine even after ten minutes of wear, while others are almost mousse-like in the tube, and these ones tend to be more matte from the get-go. There is a very subtle mint scent, but I don’t notice it at all once it is on. I do notice that it is easier to get these on the teeth than other lip products. The formula is lightly to moderately drying over time, but it is long-wearing with most shades ranging between five and seven hours of wear. The majority are satin to semi-matte with a little sheen, which you can either blot once for a matte finish or wait about an hour or two for it to naturally mattify (like any satin finish really).

Cray Cray & So Fetch are really pretty!
They are!
Cray Cray looks awesome on you!
Thank you, Katherine!
I love all three colors, but the only one I don’t think I have a dupe for is So Fetch. I have Toxic Tale, but it’s not that similar. I love that watermelon shade, though.
Glad you have dupes for the other two, at least!
All three look really great applied! For Cray Cray, I already have MAC Lady Danger, so I’m good. Selfish is exactly the ONE type of fuschia that looks good on me: WARM fuschia! But it’s formula doesn’t sound up to par with the rest.
And then there’s So Fetch. My absolute favorite of these three! And possibly out of this whole collection thus far.
Do you think you’ll try any of the Tarteist Lip Paints, Nancy?
Yes, absolutely so! The formula sems far less drying and uncomfortable compared to most of this type of lipstick. The only big hurdle is getting past the names not fitting the Tarte brand! ?
Leaping with joy because Selfish caught my eye, I immediately noticed Nar’s Greta is a dupe, and ran downstairs to find a brand new Greta sitting in my most recent Nars order! I put it on and it IS SO PRETTY!!!
Yayy!
These are all beautiful colors but I love Selfish. I can’t wait to check these out in person. ColourPop has been spoiling me with their budge-proof liquid lipsticks so I’m wondering how I’ll like the formula since it doesn’t fully set
Keep us posted on how you like ’em once you’ve had a chance to check them out in person!
Those are all pretty. I’m certainly adding to wishlist with this release.
They are!
I think my So Fetch is a batch issue… Yours looks so smooth and mine is like a paste texture. 😕
I’m wondering if they have inconsistencies in the formula in general, because some of mine are thicker and some are quite runny!
Is there any dupe of Tarte selfish in the Kat Von D or Stila line?
I’ve listed all dupes that I can think of!
Which lip crayon do you think would go best with Selfish?
From Tarte’s range? I haven’t seen any of them, so I can try to line one up but not sure how it looks in person!
