Tarte Chrome for the Holidays Set Review & Swatches
Chrome for the Holidays
Tarte Chrome for the Holidays Chrome Paint Shadow Pot Set ($24.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new, limited edition foursome that features two new, exclusive shades and two recently-released shades (which is a nice touch!). All four shades had great pigmentation, applied and blended out without much effort, and lasted for nine hours on me. These minis actually included plastic tampers inside the pot (individual pots now come with the tamper outside of the pot), but they were harder to hold given their mini size.
The full-size Chrome Paints retail for $22.00 and contain 0.10 oz. or cost $220.00 per ounce. The set includes 0.14 oz. across four shades for $24.00, and the set has a total value of $30.80.

Citrine
Citrine is a medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and a bright, metallic finish with faint micro-sparkle. It had nearly opaque pigmentation applied dry with a brush or fingertip, while application with a dampened brush yielded a smoother, shinier finish that also appeared richer and deeper overall.
The texture was a bit heavy compared to most shades in the formula, so using a heavier hand to get product onto the brush initially was ideal. The product applied fairly smoothly and seemed to “melt” as it warmed up against my lid. It stayed on well for nine hours before creasing faintly.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.11 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "rich, vibrant" color that comes in "loose pigment" form and will "melt instantly" and "stay put for hours" on the eyes. They feel like a heavier, creamier loosely-packed eyeshadow, which I think is illustrated well across the six shades I initially purchased (shown in the group shot): some arrived more crumbly and two arrived very smooth, densely and tightly packed. They brand recommends using these with a fingertip, but I was able to use brushes as well as fingertips to achieve very similar results.
Most of the shades were quite pigmented whether applied dry or wet, but wet application definitely intensified the vibrancy and shine of the finish. I found they applied a little better in practice (dry) than initially swatched, which might be due to applying to a smaller area and pressing/patting on without spreading across a larger area. They have a slightly thicker consistency, so I recommend using a patting/pressing motion to get them to adhere evenly and smoothly on the lid, but they did seem to "melt" (as described) as I worked with them on my skin and after a few minutes, so they had a very smooth sheen while worn.
I did get some fallout, especially with the shades that appeared more crumbly, and I had less fallout after I pressed the looser product down in the respective pot (effectively crushing everything together). They lasted between eight and nine hours on me before creasing faintly.

Frose
Frose is a light-medium pink with cooler undertones and warmer, golden shimmer throughout that gave it a metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer when applied dry with a brush, and it was opaque when applied with a fingertip (as recommended by the brand) or a dampened brush.
The texture was looser in the pot, and there was an included stopper (actually inside the pot), but it was buried under the loose powder. The product applied evenly to bare skin, blended out easily, and lasted well for nine hours before creasing a bit.

Pink Diamonds
Pink Diamonds is a medium plum with subtle, warm undertones and cooler, violet shimmer that gave it a more pearly sheen. It was not as metallic as most of the Chrome Shadow Paints have been. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer whether applied dry with a brush, with fingertips, or with a dampened brush; the latter application method yielded slightly deeper color for the base. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and easy to work with on bare skin. The eyeshadow wore nicely for nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Wild at Heart
Wild at Heart is a light, pink-peach base with blue-to-pink shifting pearl paired with a metallic finish. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and dense without being too firmly-pressed in the pot–it loosened easily when I put my brush to it.
The pigmentation was opaque regardless of application method–dry brush, damp brush, or fingertip–so it was pretty easy to work with and versatile. The eyeshadow applied evenly and blended out easily along the edges without sheering out or having issues with fallout. It stayed on well for nine hours before creasing slightly on me.

I’m totally LOVING how these play with PMG Midnight Sun! That is a killer eye look!
Not sure how well these mini’s would work out with my klutzy hands, though. Plus, chubby fingertips, or so I believe mine to be.
I have the regular size Frose plus some Eyes to Kill shadows with the stopper on top and found that one of those false eyelash tools that look like tweezers, but aren’t, work perfectly to grab the little handles on the stoppers. I don’t know how they would be on the mini ones but they are a huge help for me.
I really like Tarte’s Shadow Pots but these colours aren’t for me. I wish it was a slightly different, less red/orange based colour grouping. Nice bit of extra value too – maybe Hourglass should take a memo!
Yesssss… this is really tempting and a great gateway holiday value bundle.
Gorgeous shades, beautifully pigmented – but for me, I would not really want the pinky shades. It would be perfect if you could choose the combo…
The only issue for me would also be opening the minis….
Tarte is definitely on my radar again, these chrome paint pots are absolutely amazing! Frose and Wild at Heart are existing, correct? I only own Frose but would proudly gift this one to own the other 3!
Yes, Frose/Wild at Heart came out recently (though I believe they’re LE).
Gorgeous eye look, Christine!
Oh I’m really feeling this. I have Frosé already but it’s one of my favorite shadows like this. I swear my old one looks so much lighter than the original. Mine seems much more peachy champagne.
This is a pretty set and wicked affordable compared to the recent Hourglass.
I am really into the pinky shades lately, so this is definitely going on my list!
