Tarte Amused Amazonian 12-Hour Clay Blush
Tarte Amused Amazonian 12-Hour Clay Blush ($25.00 for 0.20 oz.) is described as a “bright pink.” It’s bright, all right! It looks practically glowing in the pan, but if you’re like me and fear more pigmented blushes, it can be blended out to look like a soft pop of pink. It’s very easily a brightened, medium-dark pink with cool blue undertones set in a satiny finish. There’s just a hint of sheen but nothing shimmery or frosty. MAC Overdyed has a similar intensity, but it’s less pink, more purple. MAC Amazon Princess is also less pink, more purple–but not quite as purple as Overdyed. MAC Her Blooming Cheek is just slightly less pink but similar. Make Up For Ever #3 is a bit darker.
I really like the texture, finish, and feel of the formula, but the wear definitely doesn’t get to 12 hours for me. Amused managed to look mostly fresh for eight hours but did look noticeably faded after ten hours. The lighter shades in the range don’t do quite as well, but these really intense shades seem to linger for longer. The powder is very finely-milled and soft, but it’s also so soft that powder easily gets disturbed, and it’s easy to get too much on the brush. Since this shade is so intensely pigmented, I recommend a stippling brush and/or gently tapping the excess off for light to medium color coverage.

It was near impossible for me to capture these blushes accurately. I don’t know why! It’s like the light always dims with these. Anyways… xP
This blush is so pretty, it’s been on my wishing list for a while, right now I am wearing flush from the amazonian clay blush with mac revenge is sweet lipglass, and I love it. So far my favorite is tipsy, you should try it Christine, you would love it, I wear it witn mac ever hip lipstick.
I actually don’t like bright blushes, sorry!
tipsy doesn’t come out to bright on your face like it looks on the pan. It comes out like a beautiful coral, and I am nc20 nc 25 with dark hair. I guess we all have different taste, lol, but thank you for this review. This one looks gorgeous on you Christine.
This blush looks really good on you Christine!
Thanks, Lianne!
I love bright pink blushes! Tarte seems to be coming out with a lot of nice shades. 🙂
I can’t believe I still haven’t tried the Tarte blushes, this color looks amazing.
I have 4 of these blushes: Adored, Exposed, Glisten and Peaceful (was a qvc exclusive) and feel as if I need them ALL! This one has to be next on the list and may I say Christine this color is gorgeous on you!
This is such a pretty color! But I agree with you that they fall short on wear time – I have 3 of these blushes and, on my oily skin, they not only fade but completely disappear in 5-6 hours. Layering them over cream products gives me up to 8 with fading but I feel like a blush shouldn’t take that much work. Do you have any recommendations for blushes that wear well on oily skin? Also, may I ask what you’re wearing on your lips in this look, it’s gorgeous! Thanks for your help and always having the best swatches/reviews on the web! 🙂
Wow, it looks super terrifying in the swatch yet you managed to apply it beautifully! Ah, such skills =P Does this compare at all to Smashbox Radiance?
I don’t have that, sorry!
Oooh pretty. You’re right it does glow in the pan…sadly though not as bright on person. I’d love a killer bright pink blush, best one I ever saw Milani Mango Tango. Now THAT…whistling.
Christine, How do you get the pink blushes to stay pink on your skin? I am NC35, and after half hour to one hour pink blushes go coral pink/red on my skin. I really loved the color of Amused, but worry about it turning coral red .
I’ve never had that problem – I don’t do anything special other than just apply it!
I totally have the same problem, I thought I was the only one lol! I find myself having to use a seriously cool pink blush, with literally no hints of peach or coral whatsoever. I think our skintones are just SOOOO warm
This one is really bright but looks very natural on you! I like how insanely pigmented these blushes are, but I agree that a regular blush brush kicks too much product loose, and they don’t last 12 hours on me. They fade towards the end of the day. I still think they have a good range of non-shimmery shades though. For some weird reason I have the impression that it’s harder to find a good matte blush.
It can be! A lot of them suffer from similar issues – too soft, so they end up with excess powder.
Looks really good with your eyes 🙂
What are you wearing on your lips?
Can’t remember, sorry!
Gorgeous! I love the color of this. Just a quick question: I’m going shopping soon and I’m torn between the MAC MSF in Redhead or Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl. Any suggestions? Thanks 🙂
I haven’t tried Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl, but I’m not a big fan of MAC’s MSFs for highlighting.
I certainly get 12+ hrs out of mine – not this shade – too bright for me. But I have about 5 other shades and my go to shade in this brand is Glisten – totally hooked. I can sleep with it on and still wake up with glow on my cheeks. I DO use the blush brush that came with my original Glisten that was in a TSV on QVC grouping. Since then I have bought 2 more of these blush brushes. Wondering if maybe this shade is softer than others? Or maybe it’s the brush possibly you are using that caused it to flake out into the pan? I travel now with this blush. It’s my new Orgasm…which I don’t wear anymore at all when I get long term lasting power out of Tart’s Amazonian blush. Sorry you had a less than great experience with it. I sure think most of the shades and thousands of other folks have fallen in love with this line of blush.
They’ve all been this soft – it’s a problem I’ve had across the four or five I’ve tried thus far. Given that the brushes I’m using don’t make a mess out of other blushes, I wouldn’t blame the brush myself 🙂
And as I’ve always stated – the wear is a major factor for me, and unfortunately, that’s just how it’s been in my experience. I’m glad you’re able to get 12 hours of wear – that’s just not what I’ve had happen! The lighter shades are actually worse – below average wear. I typically find that blush wears around eight hours on me.
This blush looks absolutely gorgeous on you! 🙂 Very pretty. I thought of getting this one, but applied it looked too similar to how NARS Desire looks on me, so I had to pass. I think the one I want most is Blissful!
I need more of these AC blushes and this one is beautiful! I only have exposed but I do agree about the powdery part. It’s not powdery when I apply it but when I dip the brush into the pan it does tend to kick up a lot of power.
What lipgloss/lipstick do u have on? It is a very pretty soft color.
Can’t remember, sorry!
WANT. I should be afraid of bright blushes because of my paleness, but I love ’em!
Its just too pretty but too cool to to suit my skin tone..:(
Wow, bright pink! Preeetttyyy!!
It looks like my Nars Desire blush. Have you tried Nars Desire? See if they are similar. Nars Desire is pigmented, initially I looked like an opera doll when I first used it coz I’m quite heavy-handed. Now I kno how to use it properly, it is actually pretty with good colour pay off. And u can build it up as desired.
At first I thought the name of the blush was Amused Amazonian! lol, really pretty color but unfortunately we can’t buy tarte in Denmark 🙁
Although the though of clay in blushes seems strange to me, this blush looks great.
i agree with the staying power of these blushes– dont put “12 hour” in the name unless it can live up to it, Tarte! i have it in the shade Exposed, which is sold out at a lot of places for some reason. I personally dont like it. i might have better luck with Amused though.
it’s beautiful, but definatly too much for my pale skin
How similar is this to Dollymix by MAC? Without the glitter of course 🙂
I have the tarte blush in exposed and I absolutely love it! Thank you for the reviews Christine, you are definitely spot on! 🙂
Dollymix is a bit darker 🙂
I love the Amazonian Clay blushes. I have Amused, Exposed and Blissful and want several more of them. I think my favorite so far is Exposed.
I don’t know if they (or any blush) wears 12 hours on me, but they do wear truer longer than any other blush for the 8 hours I want it to hold up. Lots of my other blushes fade much quicker or at least turn a slightly different color.
I just picked this up today…since I have a warm skin tone I wondered if it was the right shade for me. My heart said ‘yes’…my head said ‘no’, but my heart is inevitably better at picing colors so I went for it. So glad I did! A lot of blushes out there are darker and look ‘dirty’, but this one is fresh and gorgeous! It’s going strong after 6 hours, at least.
I can tell it’s totally worth the price because I used so very little (i doubt mine even looks ‘used’ after 1 application) I know it will be a looooong time before I have to replace this.
Just an update…have been using this blush daily for two months straight…and mine barely looks used. It will be YEARS before I get through this blush!!! (I’m afraid by the time I need to replace it they will have stopped making it!) I regularly get 14+ hours out of mine, although it certainly doesn’t look as fresh by the end of the day (I work in an oily shop so…yea. I’m impressed!) I’ve never had any problem with my skin breaking out or anything, either.
