Dior Garden Roses Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Garden Roses Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a limited edition palette for spring that features five shades of pink, purple, and gray. The new palettes for spring are slightly lighter (0.16 oz. vs. 0.21 oz.) compared to other five-pan palettes, though everything looks to be about the same visually. The texture of the eyeshadows from spring have a drier feel to them, which might be an explanation for the discrepancy in quantity. When I trialed these eyeshadows on the eye (without primer), I managed eight hours with slight fading but no creasing.
The first shade is a soft, frosted pink with gold shimmer. It’s a yellow-based pink with decent to good color payoff but does have some underlying sheerness and a drier texture. It’s similar to MAC Taupeless. Inglot #431 is a bit lighter, no golden shimmer. Make Up For Ever #303 is also a few steps lighter.
The second shade, which is on the top right, is a pale pink-tinted white with a golden-white frosted finish. The color payoff with this shade was good, and it applied very smoothly. It’s whiter than Tarina Tarantino Diamond Dusk. It has more of a frosted finish compared to Guerlain Boulevard du Montparnasse. It’s similar to MAC Defiance.
In the middle, there is a red-toned medium-dark purple with a satiny sheen. It has good color payoff and a soft, smooth consistency. Estee Lauder Cyber Lilac is several shades darker. Guerlain Boulevard du Montparnasse is less metallic. MAC Plush is more vibrant. theBalm Kissy Kissy is less red-toned. Bare Escentuals Encore is very similar.
The fourth shade, on the bottom left, is a golden pewter–a little silver, gray, and gold all mixed together–with a frosted, metallic sheen. Inglot #431 and Make Up For Ever #303 are a bit more yellow-toned.
The last shade, on the bottom right, is a pink lilac with a metallic shimmer-sheen. It has decent to good color payoff but seems a bit sheer. It’s similar to MAC Palladium. Giorgio Armani #19 is more golden, lighter. Wet ‘n’ Wild Dancing in the Clouds is more golden.

not that impressed – way too much of a frosty effect.
the best thing about this palette is that YOUR look with it is absolutely lovely 🙂
Thanks, Amy!
The golden pewter is a lot more complex than I thought it’d be!
Agreed! And I absolutely love the grayed purple in the center, also.
It went on surprisingly darker than it looked!
What happened to the Love it or Leave it polls?
We had to temporarily disable it because it was wreaking havoc on the load time for the site! We’re working on it.
hope to see it back soon, one of my favorite features 🙂 keep up the great work
I contemplated this palate because I’m trying to find cooler-toned rose shades to make a smoky eye, but these were a little too light and shimmery. Pretty, but not what I was looking for.
I agree – I don’t think this is where you should go if you’re looking for a smoky eye 🙂
I’m not convinced… especially since it has less product
It doesn’t visually look like it’s less, but the texture is definitely different from other quints, so it could be that – e.g. baked/mineralize products always way a lot less than a regular powder eyeshadow.
I think that the Clinique Rosewine duo can be a good dupe for this quint as I made a similar look with it just today.
Thank you for the swatches Christine!! 🙂
Good to know!
I love the texture of these, I have this one~. I don’t use it a LOT but I think it’s a great girly look 🙂
Ooh, really pretty colors, although the roses are almost too beautiful to touch! What eyeliner are you wearing?
I love that purple, but I am really not feeling all the pastels coming out this spring. I am just not a pastel person.
Amazing shades and finishes! ♥
I like the shade in the middle and bottom left, though I agree that put together it’s a bit too frosty!
The palette design is beautiful but the colors are all to similarly light and way too frosty 🙁
Certainly beautiful but the colors just don’t excite me as much as Garden Pastels. I think I can find dupes for these colors in my stash.
Very true!
Like the purple but the pink on eyes always looks bad to me. Not a fan
If it’s the right pink, you can always make it work!
I think the palette is ooooh so pretty, it’s a shame all of the shades are so frosty. For me, it would have to be used with other matte/satin shadows. I really appreciate your review, as I’ve been so excited to see how this palette would turn out IRL (in real life).
Christine, I have a request, would you also put all of the swatches from the/any palette together on your arm so we could see them side by side like you used to? I really miss that view. Thanks so much! 🙂
Will you be reviewing the green one? I’m tempted to get it but I would love your opinion on it 🙂
Emmm pretty colours in the case. The purple & the silver ones look reaallly pretty on swatches. The rest quite.. hmmm… not that impressive.
The overall look on ur eye looks very nice though.
I wouldn’t pay 59 for this, its way to shimmery and the colors do not look that pigmented when on the eye. Also the colors are probably dupe-able, and im pretty sure you can find the those exact shapes without all that shimmery mess.
Someone at the Dior counter did a look with this palette for me last week. I hated it! Way too shiny and shimmery for my taste. The colors are pretty and ‘springy’ but I felt like my lid was slapped with a ton of silver shadow.
Which Inglot Shade would be a dupe for the silvery shade? (You named 431, but that’s a pink). Thank you!
I own this and I REALLY like it, but I am a “color on the eyes-a-phobe”… It would not be good for creating a made up eye since it’s so heavily shimmer, but for creating subtle sparkly washes it’s lovely. I generally do the purply pink as a wash all over the lid, a tiny bit of the purple in the crease, and the greenish silver dotted in the center to make the eye pop 🙂 I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on it!
Wow. I bought this palette from Dior, too, and I love it!
The colours are so pretty.
Looks good with pink lips and ‘Waterlily’ nailpolish from Dior!
Great!
