Guerlain Rouge G Lip Color ($32.00 for 0.12 oz., refill only) launches exclusively on Sephora on April 10th and will be at all other retailers on May 1st, though the launch is available at global retailers already. I bought 29 shades from Selfridges, but they were, unfortunately, already sold out of #62. Oddly enough, the cases will not ship the US via Selfridges, so I actually did not have a chance to purchase any cases but will pick one up when they launch in the US.

Per Guerlain, the formula itself has not changed, just the way the packaging comes together and how the two are purchased. I did not notice anything different upon initial swatching. There may be some shades that are repeated from the original range in the new one, but I did not find that most of the numbers (the original range had names and numbers) lined up with the new range.

Each refill comes with a plastic cap to keep the refill from drying out (remember, they’ll have to sit in the box until purchased), so purchasing an actual case doesn’t seem necessary. The previous Rouge Gs retailed for $54 and contained 0.12 oz., whereas now you can get the formula for $32.00 for 0.12 oz. or $47.00 for 0.12 oz. with case–significantly cheaper than the $54 all-in price from before.

I’m so excited to see this launch. I was afraid they were going to discontinue the formula since it seemed like they hadn’t restocked colors at Sephora in quite some time, but I guess they were just waiting for this updated launch. I love that Guerlain went that extra mile and created so many unique cases for these lipsticks. Every color looks gorgeous and the interchangeable cases are beautiful. Thank you for giving updated swatches since it does seem like a few colors are a little different (mostly just have more shine). I can’t wait to get my hands on a couple of these!

Wow swatches already! None are really catching my eye because it’s a sea of reds and pinks…. feel like the original line had more “natural” shades.

Excited for the new cases, but can’t tell if the new No 6 is the same as the old No 6 Garance, which I love. It will be easier to indulge with the lower price point, although I bought out the internet when it went on clearance at Overstock, so I’m not sure when I’ll get to buying more than a case!

I don’t think it is the same. The majority of numbers did not match up between the two ranges. The following is based on swatching both numbers from the formulas side-by-side by me. Keep in mind that some of my original Rouge Gs are several years old, though. I inquired with Guerlain about whether any shades carried over but haven’t heard back from them.

02 – Gardenia — In the previous range, Gardenia (02) was darker and warmer.
03 – Galia — In the previous range, Galia (03) was much lighter and warmer (not really similar at all).
06 – Garance — In the previous range, Garanace (06) was warmer.
41 – G*psy — In the previous range, G*psy (41) was darker, redder, and more shimmery.
70 – Gigolo — In the previous range, Gigolo (70) was a completely different shade.
77 – Geraldine — In the previous range, Geradline (77) was slightly lighter and glossier but very, very similar.
42 – Giuliana — In the previous range, Giuliana (42) was lighter, browner, and more muted (not very similar).
43 – Ginger — In the previous range, Ginger (43) was a completely different shade.
45 – Orange Euphorique — In the previous range, Orange Euphorique (45) was a completely different shade/
28 – Genna — In the previous range, Genna (28) was lighter.
71 – Girly — In the previous range, Girly (71) seems to be the same as the new #67.
67 – Giovanna — In the previous range, Giovanna (67) was a different shade.
65 – Grenade — In the previous range, Grenade (65) was marginally warmer.
72 – Rose Innocent — In the previous range, Rose Innocent (72) was a completely different shade.
73 – Rose Ensoleille — In the previous range, Rose Ensoleille (73) was a completely different shade.
74 – Rose Piquant — In the previous range, Rose Piquant (74) was a completely different shade.
78 – Gladys — In the previous range, Gladys (78) seemed to be the same in shade.
555 – N/A
21 – Gala — In the previous range, Gala (21) was warmer and less pink.
22 – Greta — In the previous range, Greta (22) was several shades deeper and cooler in tone.
23 – Geisha — In the previous range, Geisha (23) was much lighter and warmer (not similar at all).
25 – Garconne — In the previous range, Garconne (25) appeared slightly cooler and deeper.
214 – N/A

These look lovely. Really want to finally try one of these lipsticks. I appreciate that the price point has gone down too, but I will wait for your reviews so I can purchase.

I’m especially interested in all the orange/red shades: 28, 42, 45, 214… ? Some of the shades look sheer, which is nice too. The customizable cases look great too, I hope they’re good quality. Thanks for putting these up so quickly. ?

These are very pretty. I prefer super opaque formulations like BITE’s creams over semi-translucent ones like this for brights like the green, blue, and even the purple, but they do get impressive color payoff!

2 (kind of a natural pink?) and 7 (coral, I’m always on the lookout for a dupe for MAC Exxxhibitionist which was out years and years ago) are stunners. The wide array of hot pinks is really fun, I like 77 (most natural undertone) and 73 (most violet undertone?) a lot. 🙂

Looking forward to these!
I’ve enjoyed the one I have from the older collection, it’s great for touching up on the go.
Wonder if the new cases are as heavy as the old one?

#65, #74, #22 and that gold transformer shade do have my interest! Almost all the shades appear to be just as high quality as before the change in packaging. Only the reviews will tell the tale, though.
I do love the concept of personalizing ones own outside case! I’ll probably go for the black leather or black marble, as those both appeal to me the most.

I think #74 is the only one I absolutely love. Do these seem sheerer that the original formula or is it just me?

Christine, thank you SO MUCH for investing such a huge amount of time and money into getting these so quickly – you are a super star and I think I speak for all of us, when I say we appreciate your efforts 🙂

I am so excited to see you have these! ……and also somewhat disappointed by the swatches of the blue and green. Blue looks amazing against pale skin (probably every skintone) and whipping out a fancy lipstick bullet to apply blue would be awesome. Too bad these swatched so sheer, I have a feeling they won’t look so nice on application. Unfortunately, none of the rest of the colors caught my eye and I don’t have a place to swatch in person. Bummer.

Thanks for the preview and I look forward to the review!

So many beautiful colors. I’ve seem small pictures of the cases too. Not that I need these in any way, I plan to get at least two.

Well Christine Guerlain can thank you for my purchase today of Rouge G (my first) with the Pretty Chic case. I purchase n°6 (no more n°2 in the Parisien neighborhood where I was and apparently the most popular color in Paris & France, at least per the salesperson).

I note that I tried several colors, and n°2 & 3 may be my next. The blue one deceived me, it looks so great on the model in Christine’s previous post, but the coverage isn’t at all like that, it is more blue and the example seemed ever so slightly a blue with mauve/purple.

N°2 is really a great nude if you like the pale look. However, I note that I’m NC42ish with slightly darkened lips (a tad darker that Christine’s) and I found that the swatches in store on the lips versus skin are a little LESS pink (more neutral) than in Christine’s lip swatches.

Thanks! Nice texture (though since my lips aren’t exfoliated, it does cause a tad bit of a peeling effect). I appreciate Nicole D’s previous comments that also helped me in deciding to make the purchase. 10% reduction also helped (at little bit). 😉

Thanks so much for swatching all of these. Rouge Gs are my favorite lipstick formulation; I’m really excited about this launch. (Even tho I have many of the “old” Rouge Gs still and don’t need more…)
