Stila Magnificent Metals Liquid Eye Shadows (Part 2) Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Smoldering Satin
Stila Smoldering Satin Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a rich bronze with warm, reddish undertones and larger, silver and brown flecks of glitter. The base color was nearly opaque, and there was a moderate amount of glitter that sat on top, so it was dazzling and wearable on its own (or as a lid color) with very slight unevenness. It dried down fast enough that I didn’t stress about keeping my eyelid taut to avoid creasing. This shade had minimal fallout over an eight-hour period.
Stila says that it’s supposed to be a “long-wearing, sparkle eye shadow” in a “water-infused texture” that “dries down smoothly” with “minimal fallout.” There’s a lot to be impressed by with the formula, but there was some inconsistency in opacity and overall wateriness between shades so not all shades were equally impressive. When they’re good, they were pigmented, dried down evenly without creasing, and were long-wearing with minimal fallout. When they’re less impressive, they are more watery, semi-sheer to semi-opaque, prone to creasing as they dry down, though the wear is similar across all shades. I felt like there was less fallout with the less blending done with them, e.g. applying directly to lid and only minimally working along the edges yielded the least fallout compared to diffusing and blending out the color with a brush. If I accidentally rubbed an eye, it seemed to interfere with the integrity of the wear completely–it was like a downhill avalanche of glitter that could not be stopped. They were easiest to use as the last step in a look, patted over eyeshadow with fingertip or swiped on with the sponge applicator for more of a “cut crease” kind of effect, or used along the lash line as eyeliner (I liked using a thin, liquid eyeliner brush to get a thinner line). They removed fairly well, but it was hard to get every last bit of glitter off the skin, though it was never painful or uncomfortable to remove them.

Smoky Storm
Stila Smoky Storm Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a dark, taupe brown with strong, gold glitter and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, so while it could be used on its own, it had the most even appearance with a little something underneath it. The consistency was thin and liquidy, but it didn’t seem too watery or prone to creasing as it dried down. It applied evenly on its own, and it had very little fallout over the eight hours it lasted.

Violet Vixen
Stila Violet Vixen Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a medium purple with warm, pink undertones and finer pink and purple sparkle and glitter. This shade seemed to have more depth and nuance compared to others, as there were more distinct particle sizes. It was also easier to work with, as it was smoother and had more semi-opaque to opaque coverage when applied directly to the lid using the applicator. This shade had very little fallout over an eight-hour period.

Molten Midnight
Stila Molten Midnight Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark black with cooler undertones and a lot of silver and gold glitter. It had good color coverage, but it was more watery, so it sheered out somewhat and looked uneven applied on its own. I liked this one better over another product, which helped camouflage the unevenness. This one also took longer to dry down, so I had to keep my lid taut to avoid creasing as it dried down. Once it set, the glitter eyeshadow lasted for eight hours with minimal fallout.

Fun idea- I love sparkle- but these seem like more trouble than they’re worth. I really like how you’ve used Violet Vixen as an undereye accent, though!
They are fun, but they won’t be for everyone!
I swatched the colors in store, and my fave was Violet Vixen
It is nice!
I have been absolutely obsessed with these lately! I ended getting almost all of them because they’re so much easier to deal with than fussing with glitter glue & everything. I hope Stila continues to come out with more!
How do you like using them the most, Fancie?
So beautiful! Glad to read that they DO indeed perform better and prettier than expected. I love ho
*how beautifully it worked with the purple eye look you did! I’m guessing that I don’t really need any oof these because of my having the Moondust Palette, which will probably last me a lifetime as it is!
Some of them are quite nice!
The violet looked great to me too, so if I get any of these it will probably the rose gold and the violet.
Good picks, Erin!
At least Violet Vixen seems to be OK. I might get it, after all, I do love my purple. I hoped Molen Midninght would be really good, as it looks so shimmery, yet so dark, but even though it got a B it seems to require a bit of both work and time. As for the rest, I’m disappointed but it’s not like i need a lot of new eyeshadows. (HA! Who am I trying to kid, of course I need more 🙂 )
It’s fun to use as a liner 🙂
Smoky storm, is right up my alley! I would love it lightly patted on my inner 3/4 of my mobile lids, and maybe some warm brown on he utter corners and hood! YUM!
Thank you for reviewing these Christine!
My pleasure, Shannon! xo
I love how you used violet vixen! Some of these look so pretty, but I’m going to try not to get any because I’ve found over the years that I just don’t end up reaching much for liquid/cream eyeshadows and the always go off before I think I’ve gotten enough mileage from them!
Thank you, Isa!
Makes sense to me – I definitely think with cream/liquid you have to be careful buying too many or buying at all if you rarely use ’em!
I have to try a couple of them – I just have to! Smoky Storm and Smoldering Satin.
Let us know what you think when you do, Deborah!
Tempted by the purple and the black and I like Shannon’s idea for an eye look, but leery with my more mature eye lids.
The purple was definitely one of the nicer ones to use!
As always, thank you so much for your hard work providing us with such high quality and through reviews! Will you be able to review the three shades that are exclusive to Stila’s website?
Sorry, I don’t have those!
