Urban Decay Nocturnal Collection features an eyeshadow palette and four lipsticks. Everything is exclusive to Ulta, and it will launch online on the 15th and be available in-stores on the 22nd. Here are sneak peek swatches of the lipsticks + palette (you’ll need to scroll past the lipstick swatches to see the palette’s shades swatches):

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Ditto. Delete isn’t so hot, either. But this set is a fairly good and comprehensive representation of UD, for newbies. Some real classics. Sorry I missed the Sephora 4 color pointer a while back. Think it had 2 shades from this palette that I don’t have. Today’s postings are hitting home with how self-indulgent I am with makeup. But, it’s good to recognize it, when you neither need, nor want something.

“Exclusive to Ulta” – thanks a heap, UD!!! I’d really like to get Armor (which I always think I have because for some crazy reason, I always confuse it with Radar!) and would probably buy this for that shadow along (okay….maybe not since I’ve got more than half the shades already and the last thing I want – besides MAC Carbon – is UD’s equivalent in the crummy but ubiquitous category, MCRA!!!) Sigh….oh well! Not meant to be, I guess.

Katherine T. Avatar

Backstab has a beautiful color and finish, and wish Armour was a single, but nothing else is jumping out at me. I already have these colors or dupes.

xamyx Avatar

I noticed Backfire was left out of the swatches… Is it closer to the single, or the one in the After Dark palette? If it’s like the single, I’ll probably pick one up for myself, since the whole palette is a few dollars more, plus Riff looks interesting, and I’ve been on the fence with that one.

Deborah S. Avatar

I love the look of Backstab but that would be the only thing from this collection that I would be interested in. I have more than half of the shadows, I think. I must have every dupe of Lounge that exists and that is quite a few, LOL. So far it has been quite easy to stick to my low buy!!

Rhea Avatar

Man, compared to Sephora’s exclusive after dark palette, Ulta is getting the seriously short end of the stick here. The lipsticks look alright but not THAT amazing and the palette is full of already available singles. Also, what about the way old packaging? Wasn’t that the packaging for a palette like 3 years ago? Bummer, Ulta.

Tiffany Avatar

The fireball lipstick ? looks very pretty. Seriously, UD…. Midnight Cowboy Rides Againn and Half Baked??? They are in a couple of palettes already. ? sigh

Claire L Avatar

I looove the 2 red lipsticks! The palette doesn’t excite me that much, I’m happy with the Urban Spectrum and Vice XX RELOADED palettes so I’m all set.

Brenda Peterson Avatar

I will pick this up as soon as it goes on sale since I’ve been wanting lounge & backfire for a while now. Just didn’t want to pay the $$ for 2 singles since these colors are more my fun makeup not my wear to work makeup. Lol ?
Love ❤️ nonsense ?

Look into becoming a UD Beauty Junkies member. 1. It was free to join 2. You get free shipping on every purchase, no minimum 3. You earn points for money off your future purchases (even without spending money, like by writing reviews) and 4. They give you a free single eyeshadow during your birth month with a regularly priced purchase. So I just grabbed a $10 nail polish I liked (Roach) and actually picked up Backfire as my freebie single (haha, what a coincidence) and got free shipping for it all.

Carmen Avatar

I’m UD beauty junkie and this palette isn’t even on their website, grrr!
I’m not a huge Ulta fan, but this collection really intrigues me…

Kayla Avatar

Right, this is an Ulta exclusive palette/collection, but I was mentioning the Beauty Junkies program to the OP Brenda (if she wasn’t already aware of it) because she made a statement that she was interested in possibly getting some shades as singles (but singles are expensive) because Beauty Junkies gives you a coupon for a free single for your birthday with a regularly priced purchase. It’s worth it if you can pick up an interesting UD website-exclusive product/shade and then grab yourself your free single and get it all shipped for free,

Kayla Avatar

Oh, awesome! Yay for birthday perks! Yeah, it’s totally worth it if you can pick up something that is exclusive to the UD website for your “regularly priced purchase” (that way you don’t miss out on Ulta or Sephora points) and then toss in your freebie eyeshadow single and get your free shipping.

Kayla Avatar

Haha, unfortunately I can’t help you there, that’s just a tough personal decision you’re going to have to make all on your own. I trust you can manage to think of something though ??

Caroline Avatar

Why another ‘exclusive to such-and-such’, UD? Not that I’m personally bothered in this instance; the packaging is pants and old fashioned, and the colours aren’t that impressive, but for those who’d really like this collection and live outside the US (Ulta doesn’t ship to the UK, for instance) … well, that’s just a bummer, isn’t it?

Mariah Avatar

You may have had this comment before but, it looks like you just use the swatches you already did of the individual shadows. I get how that makes sense, and probably saves computer space/uploading times/server space, BUT… as I have learned through a lot of places, the formulation on shadows can differ from individual pots to pallets even with the same color because they have to be able to be open to air more, and need to be more stable. Not to mention companies are notorious for changing formulation from when an individual color came out to when a pallet came out. It’d be really nice and really helpful if you just swatched the shadows in that pallet that you’re reviewing simply for those reasons. I mean, you clearly HAVE the pallet, so why not just do it? I get that it’s your time and energy, but it’s not really the most accurate.

Christine Avatar

Hi Mariah,

The swatches are done from the palette’s actual shades 🙂 As I mentioned in the post, the product photos are showing the singles, because they are part of the shade’s “listing” and the permanent single is the one that will live on so I do not want to remove them. So I did, and I am not lazy or anything like that – I took photos of every single shade in the palette and swatched each shade FROM the palette.

The way the sneak peek is set-up pulls the first photo from the product’s product photos, and it is on our to-do list to update, which is why I explained it in the post above!

Christine Avatar

I have updated the post with the hard links to all of the images to show you that I am in NO WAY, ever, trying to cut corners or not do right by my readers!! I am just so upset that I have caused you to think so badly of me – that I am lazy! I am just appalled and so upset with myself for obviously coming across as not hard working enough. I wanted to display it in the sneak peek format as it helps people get an overview but I understand that I just made everything worse for you and wound up disappointing everyone instead!

I will get my team on the sneak peek photos to get that issue fixed so that it will pull the most recent photos and hopefully that will not take more than a few days to do.

Whenever I do NOT re-swatch something, I explain that and make it clear that I am not doing so – for instance, when UD put out Vice Lipstick palettes, I did not re-photograph and swatch everything as I just did so a few months prior but I did go through and compare shades side-by-side and notate any differences there. Whereas with this palette, I am reviewing it in full and all of the photos/swatches were uploaded simultaneously – on each shade’s page (click any of the names), there are multiple photos/swatches as versions were released (like Blackout and Lounge have been released several times!).

Dear Christine,

While it lets me know how much you care about what you do, I’m so sorry that one person’s comments made you feel badly. I’m sure most of your readers would agree that you go above and beyond what most beauty bloggers do. The amount of product you swatch and review amazes me (not to mention the fact that you actually read and respond to comments-and take action when something goes awry)! Thank you so much for providing this service. It is so helpful.

Mariah Avatar

OMG, no no no! I never thought badly of you! I just know you have so much on your plate with this site and so many, many products to check out. I know a lot of people would look at it and say, “well we’ve swatched this company’s color before” and just use those graphics because of server space and time spent.

I never meant anything bad against you, Christine! I know how hard you work! And it’s never occurred to me before until yesterday when I was watching a video where a woman who works in makeup formulation mentioned that palette shadows have to have different formulas because they’re open to air more, etc, etc. And when you posted the pictures with the singles pans next to it, I just thought maybe that was the deal. And I tried to read through your writeup but sometimes in previews it’s just pics… I’m just very sorry for upsetting you! I’ve followed you and your site for like 7+ years and I just know how hard you work! I never thought any less of you or your site!

Really, you are, and always have been, the first place I go for swatches and first impressions on products. I’m sorry I misjudged what you presented!

Dominique Avatar

I won’t be purchasing this palette because like many others I have just about all of these colors.Backstab is very pretty. As soon as I heard about Fireball I wanted. Now that I’m seeing the swatch it is beautiful but I wish it were more pigmented!I think that some of the Vice shades marketed as sheer can be layered up to semi-opaque.I have Walk Of Shame Vice and the matching pencil and when I layer them they show up very nicely I have Morning After Vice also and I like to pile that one on so it’s not as sheer.Lawbreaker is very nice also.

Jovana Avatar

Lipsticks are beautiful but that eye shadow palette leaves much to be desired. Its just meh…
Is it just me or is Urban Decay releasing TOO many eye palettes lately? I feel like there is a new one out every month. They would be better off with ONE every once in a while to REALLY focus on quality and innovative colors and packaging. Just my two cents.
