Smashbox Smoky Cover Shot Eye Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Smoky
Smashbox Smoky Cover Shot Eye Palette ($29.00 for 0.27 oz.) is a small, travel-friendly palette that features a smoky take on earth shades of brown, plum, green, and gray. The formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with a “beyond blendable” texture. All eight shades had good pigmentation, were fairly blendable, and wore for seven to eight hours. Some shades were a touch dusty, which may have resulted in a bit of fallout during application or shorter-wear, but overall, the palette was easy to use, and the colors chosen make sense within the theme.

Smoky
LELimited Edition. $28.00.
Feature
Feature is a light-medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, a little dusty but applied fairly well to bare skin (but I’d recommend using a primer for better coverage and application). It had good color payoff that went on evenly and lasted for seven hours on me.

Instinct
Instinct is a light yellow with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had great pigmentation with a very soft, smooth texture that had some dustiness in the pan and fallout during application. When I tried using this on my brow bone, a lot of product fell onto my lid, so I highly recommend using a lighter touch with this and possibly applying it first. It wore well for seven hours on me.

Hell Ya
Hell Ya is a medium-dark brown with a golden sheen. It had great pigmentation with a finely-milled, smooth consistency that wasn’t too firm or too soft in the pan, so I did not have any issues with excess powderiness or product kicking up in the pan. It wore for just over seven and a half hours on me before fading.

Rock Me
Rock Me is a light-medium, golden pewter with warmer undertones and a metallic sheen. The pigmentation was opaque, while the texture felt soft, smooth, and a little denser than other shades. The eyeshadow applied beautifully to bare skin, blended out with ease, and lasted for eight hours.

Slayer
Slayer is a deep taupe with subtle, browner undertones that ran neutral-to-cool to my eye. The texture was smooth, slightly firmer in the pan than the other shades. I expected it to be more challenging to blend out, but it wasn’t so bad; it wasn’t effortless, but when applied in sheerer layers, I didn’t even notice blending being an issue–it was only if I packed it on. It wore for eight hours on me.

Big Night
Big Night is a deep black with cooler undertones and flecks of multi-colored sparkle over a matte finish. Unfortunately, the sparkle did not translate on the lid, as the sparkles dusted away from the base color. The eyeshadow was quite pigmented with a soft, smooth texture that wasn’t too dusty or too thin, so it blended out well while still maintaining its intensity. It wore nicely for just over seven and a half hours on me.

this palette is beautiful ! it is small bit it has a great value!
i love the look that you did with it ! stunning !
I think it’s a good size – small, compact but not stingy.
I was going to pass on all of these because I don’t really NEED any new palettes, but I love your eye look so much, I might be changing my mind.
Thank you, Lacey! Do you have any dupes that you could recreate the look with perhaps?
I like this one — I’m not wowed by it, but I do like it, and could even use it as a stand-alone palette — something I haven’t seen much of in the past few months! It’s going on my wishlist for my ULTA 20% off coupon.
I like how they did themes and released several – something for everyone!
I’m wearing this today and really like it. I was in a rush and over-blended and made them a bit muddy, but they still look okay. I wish I could blend as well as you do, Christine!
I’m glad you’re liking it so far! They do have a certain similarness in tone that I could see them getting muddied in a hurry!
Great colors, love ’em! Might try this one.
Hope you can test one out!
Oooh, these are pretty fall/winter colors! Love the mix of mattes and shimmers too
It is! Very fall.
Very nicely put together! One can actually get their entire eye look out of this little gem! Even different looks; more plummy, more green, more neutral. ?
And if you had just a couple more mid-tone shades, you’d get even more combos, too!
I ordered this one and Ablaze, and every time I see new looks/swatches with either I get more excited and can’t wait for my package to come. I hope I’m not letting my expectations get to high! Beautiful look, btw, I love how it’s a smoky rainbow.
Thank you, Olivia! I like them. Some shades are really nice, most are decent to pretty good!
Wow! That eye look you created with this is just gorgeous!
Thanks, Jenna!!
THIS is the one I really wanted to see. Looks beautiful and I love the eye look you’ve done (though it puts me in mind of the season we are leaving behind!). I wonder if this will be at the Sephora near me….ever (right now, it’s not available within a 150 km radius of me). Even better would be if Shoppers Drug Mart would get it and I could “buy” it on points!
I just picked this up today, came home and put it on! I really like it. Hell Ya is such a perfect colour….all the colours in it are really nice and Headline is a nice one for me to have as I try to explore my way into more burgundy/reddish toned shadows. I know some people have commented that this is a really tiny palette so I was expecting something the size of a match-book or postage stamp 😉 but I was pleasantly surprised that it was about the size I was expecting.
This is the palette I purchased ….the green spoke to me
How do you like yours, Shar, or has it not arrived yet?
A gorgeous little palette full of beautiful shades – just love Rock Me and Stfu the best. A really beautiful eye look too Christine. I think Smashbox is onto a winner here.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Augh, I need to stop myself from buying this palette just for that stunning green! The rest of the shades are all just okay (nothing particularly unique there, and the performance is fine but not extraordinary as well)… but that green is calling my name.
Haha! I understand, JC. I, too, share a weakness for deep greens!
Nice! Like the muted metallic colours, it makes this palette a little bit different.
There’s another Bonnie on here ( Hi other Bonnie’s !! There’s lots of us here!) That got into a short comment-versation with me about Smashbox being the opposite of other brands in that their limited edition formula is so much better than the photo-op permanent line. I hope she or anyone that likes the LE formula sees your post and comments. I’d like to know what other Smashbox LE eyeshadow fans are thinking of these. They sure look like the good stuff. A few of these cover shots including smokey look like winners…..I thought I was safe from personal shopping but nooooo. Smashbox has to sneak in some winners!! Lol I have no willpower. I know this one, Ablaze and there was 1 more that I liked at first glance that are teetering on my cart awaiting your review. Wow so weird. I got a headache mid comment …hope my rambling didn’t give you one too and that I made sense!!
Stunning eye look Christine! Makes me want to but the palette!
I love your festive eye look, it would be perfect for a holiday party!
STFU… lol, did they hire Tarte’s new marketing team?!?
As always, very inspiring eye look!
Thank you, Alecto!
