Sephora Reckless, Success Story, My Rules Rouge Lacquers Reviews & Swatches
Reckless (31)
Sephora Reckless (31) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a light-medium mauve with neutral-to-warm undertones and a lightly glossy, cream finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied evenly to my lips and didn’t emphasize my lip lines or lip texture.
The texture felt lightweight, creamy with moderate slip, and more like a lipstick-lip balm hybrid with how it felt like it melted a bit as I held it to my lips. It stayed on nicely for four hours and felt moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview
$13.00/0.1 oz. - $130.00 Per Ounce
The lipstick is supposed to have a "silky smooth melting formula" that yields "intense long-lasting color and high-shine" with "instant hydration." Most shades were creamy without being so slippery that they felt that way or went on unevenly. They do melt quickly, though, so if they are left in a warmer area (with all my photography lights running) and applied, they feel substantially creamier than at room temperature (about 72 degrees).
The texture was smooth, creamy, and comfortable to apply and to wear with most of the shades applying well, though lighter and very deep shades tended to have application problems. The lighter shades tended to separate and sit in my lip lines, while deeper shades were less pigmented and more prone to patchiness (but didn't pull into my lip lines as noticeably as the lighter shades did). The majority of the shades had semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation with a few coming in at more medium to semi-opaque coverage.
As there are 30 shades in the range, wear time definitely varied from three to six hours, depending on depth and pigment level with deeper, redder shades lasting longer than pale beiges and peaches. The formula has been moderately hydrating without feathering on me so far, but I'm not particularly prone to that but would worry about it for those who find it a more frequent occurrence with some of the deeper shades in the lineup.
They had a scent that Sephora lists as having these notes: "vanilla, peony, and intrepid patchouli," and I'd describe the scent as a subtle, sweet, vanilla-floral hybrid mix (nothing specific to my nose) and on most shades, I didn't notice a taste but some shades gave me a bit of one (enough that I was like, "hmm").

Success Story (33)
Sephora Success Story (33) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy, cream finish. The lipstick had a smooth, lightweight texture that was creamy without being too slippery, though it was a more emollient formula. I didn’t experience feathering or bleeding while I wore it, but those who find that a common issue with more formulas may find a liner to be necessary.
It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly in a single layer. The color wore well for five hours and felt hydrating while worn.

My Rules (34)
Sephora My Rules (34) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly, but it was one of the underwhelming shades in the range as it didn’t live up to the pigmentation claims and the formula’s flaws came through more noticeable as a result.
The lipstick still had a smooth, creamy consistency that felt like it melted slightly as it applied over my lips, which gave it moderate slip and kept it from tugging on my lips. It lasted decently for four hours and felt moisturizing over time.

I do like Reckless, but Iām not a fan of lipstick/balm feel. Great look and value on this line overall.
Isn’t it nuts that even though I do on MAC Mehr, I still want Reckless even though the actual color is pretty much identical, I just love the finish on Reckless so much!
And I absolutely must get Success Story! I do have deep plum or burgundy lip pencils that would make this work beautifully.
Success Story is beautiful. I have liked the Sephora lipsticks I have purchased over the years and will likely pick Success Story up. I do have a few dupes but they are down the list so nothing super close. Overall, I feel like the Sephora brand is much better than people give them credit for. I like their eye pencils, lip pencils and most of their lipstick formulas.
Needless to say, but My Rules is my favourite here – just love that shade of brown.
