Sephora Plum & Mulberry Lip Last Matte Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Plum
Sephora Plum Lip Last Matte Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The initial finish had a bit of shine to it, but it set after five minutes or so to a mostly flat, matte finish. The texture was lightweight and thin, yet very velvety so it glided across my lips with ease but didn’t feel traditionally wet or creamy.
The product applied evenly with a bit of product that sat in my lip lines that I was able to smooth out after letting it set for two minutes. The nice thing about the dry down/setting of the formula was how flexible it felt on my lips, while it was transfer-resistant and longer-wearing than traditional lipstick. It lasted nicely for six hours and felt non-drying while worn.

Formula Overview
$14.00/0.06 oz. - $233.33 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "rich, opaque color with long-lasting, transfer-resistant wear that doesn't bleed or crack," and it's also described as "non-drying" and a "modern matte." It does deliver on its promises; it applies more like a traditional lipstick but has a set more like a liquid lipstick--definitely transfer-resistant and longer-wearing than most traditional lipsticks.
The texture felt smooth, like a gel-like cream with all the slip of a velvety primer and not the traditional wetness of a balmy lipstick. The lipsticks felt like they melted against my lips, and they delivered mostly opaque to fully opaque coverage in a single layer. That softness made them more prone "breaking" a bit when I swatched them on my arm, but I didn't experience that on my lips. Most of the shades were fairly forgiving of minor imperfections of lip texture and lip lines.
The setting process took longer than most liquid lipsticks, though it was more forgiving if one accidentally pressed one's lips together during the setting time. Per the brand, they say to "wait five to 10 minutes" before eating or drinking, and I found this was true for most shades.
I was impressed by how flexible and comfortable the color felt on my lips--it was very lightweight--and I could press my lips together without product pulling away after drinking/light eating. Like most formulas, even tougher liquid lipsticks, more oil-heavy meals will still break it down and create some transfer. Without eating (just drinking), the lipsticks lasted easily past the six-hour mark with color fully intact and most shades faded evenly as they wore down (from eating). The formula felt mostly non-drying to my lips over time. There was a subtle, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Mulberry
Sephora Mulberry Lip Last Matte Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a deep, raspberry pink with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation delivered in a single, fluid stroke. The texture was velvety, lightweight, and thin; it felt more emollient and glided on initially before setting to a more matte finish (though it took a few minutes).
The upside was the dry down was still very flexible, so it didn’t feel clingy or dry like a more traditional liquid lipstick might. It wore well for over seven hours, left a stain behind, and felt non-drying over time.

Looks like another win for a Sephora lip formula. This formula is a tad more expensive, but the comfort matte aspect is a great thing, for those who do not welcome the return of shiny and glossy, and for those of us who can don and doff the masks.
These are perfect for our mask wearing new reality! That they dry down, yet stay flexible is a major selling point for me, along with their being transfer resistant. Both dupe some favorite lipsticks that I usually wear pretty often but haven’t been able to lately. Definitely getting Plum!
What a stunning shade that Plum one is!
OMG I’m with you Nancy need comfy transfer proof. Mulberry is coming home with me!!
Great shades for autumn!
Both of these are gorgeous! Sephora is really nailing the lip formulas the last couple of years.
Plum is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Definitely going to be picking that one up.
these shades look right up my alley!
