Revlon HD Tourmaline (510) Ultra HD Lip Lacquer
Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer ($8.99 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to deliver “true color clarity” with “vivid high-impact shine and a “lightweight feel” that is “never sticky.” The gloss has a creamy consistency to it that is a little gel-like, and though it doesn’t feel heavy, it is a thicker consistency. There’s a light tackiness to it initially, which I find develops to a noticeable tackiness after a couple of hours–if you don’t like thicker, tackier glosses, I don’t know that these are for you. The wear of these darker shades ended up being longer than average, which was nice, and I didn’t have issues with the gloss feathering, but I’m not prone to feathering, so your mileage may vary. I think a doe-foot applicator might have made the gloss easier to apply, because around the edges, the brush will splay out and give a more jagged edge, due to the thickness and spreadability of the gloss itself. There is a very subtle sweet scent, but it’s very, very hard to detect except in the tube. They weren’t drying on me, but they weren’t hydrating either.
From what I’ve heard (but I’m not in contact with Revlon, so this is an observation) and seen, this formula is replacing the ColorBurst Lipgloss range, which seems to be vanishing from online and my local displays are empty.
Revlon HD Tourmaline (510) Ultra HD Lip Lacquer ($8.99 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a white sparkle. It had mostly opaque color coverage, which applied fairly evenly, but it could have gone on better. It wore well for five hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. NYX Sugar Cookie (P, $5.00) is less sparkly, sheerer. Urban Decay Crush (P, $19.00) is less glossy. Milani Flashy (P, $7.49) is more shimmery. MAC Style Packed (LE, $15.00) is lighter, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Revlon HD Pink Ruby (515) Ultra HD Lip Lacquer ($8.99 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bold, brightened pinky-red with fuchsia shimmer and sparkle. It had rich, opaque color coverage that went on evenly and lasted for six hours. MAC Glam (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. Revlon Adorned (P, $7.49) is cooler-toned with a pinker (less red) base. MAC Impassioned (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. Estee Lauder Violet Rain (LE, $22.50) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Revlon HD Carnelian (545) Ultra HD Lip Lacquer ($8.99 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark burgundy red with subtle, cool undertones and a creamy finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage with a high-shine finish. It applied beautifully and evenly, except along the edges due to the bristles of the brush (be very slow and methodical when applying with the applicator!). It wore well for five and a half hours. Guerlain Rouge Parade (920) (LE, $30.00) is brighter, lighter. MAC Viva Glam I (LE, $15.00) is warmer. MAC Utterly Tart (LE, $15.00) is less red. Chanel Crushed Cherry (P, $29.50) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Carnelian is gorgeous!! I’m definitely getting it, and eagerly awaiting your review on the other shades!
Enjoy it!!
I love the lustre in Pink Ruby! <3 I wonder if I could tolerate the level of tackiness though… It's such a subjective thing, lol 🙂
I hear ya! It is definitely a preference.
It’s a different kind of tacky, probably because it does have dimethicone in it. It’s not to that bad for getting long hair stuck to your lips like MAC. lol
It’s a different kind of tacky. It’s not the thick, smothering, tacky type. It’s much more lightweight with the slightest hint for me. I also only give it two thin layers when I wear it.
Whoa, these look so lovely and definitely hold their own in the quality department! These are tempting me into the world of gloss again. If there’s a warm toned red I’ll definitely take a leap.
These were pretty nice! 🙂
All three shades look beautiful! Pink Ruby looks fantastic on you, Christine!
Thank you, Agata!
Those last two colors are so pretty! I’m hesitant to purchase though. I usually find the smell of drug store lip products incredibly strong and chemically.
I don’t like the scent of a lot of drugstore products myself, but I found the scent in these to be VERY subtle. The Ultra HD lipsticks, on the other hand, are very strong.
Ooh, I’m really excited for the rest of your reviews of these! These three (especially Pink Ruby, wow), look gorgeous but I personally find bright glosses too high maintenance for myself.
These seemed to wear pretty well without having to fuss with them, once you get them on (that brush applicator can give a jagged edge if you’re not careful).
At least Pink Ruby is a decent replacement for Adorned. I wouldn’t have gone for any of the reds in this line… but that dark red looks so slick and juicy! Might need it.
At least it is similar in color!
I have both. I like Pink Ruby a little better than Adorned. It is a bit darker, more opaque, and I like the formula just a bit better.
Wow! Those are intense. I love all three, but Pink Ruby is the standout for me.
Pink Ruby is a pretty one!
I’m not a fan of those lip brushes and sticky lips glosses are a big no for me 🙁 but I may pick one up because the colors are .. wow!
Monica.
They’re really pigmented for a gloss, which is nice if you like your glosses that way (or maybe just want something different). I hear ya on the tackiness, though.
Hopefully these come to Canada sometime soon!
I think a few are in Canada, but not all are yet!
How fun! 😀 Do they feel like they benefit your lips in any way?
They’re neither drying nor hydrating, so they don’t do anything for me from what I can tell!
I have chronically dry lips. I have Sjorgren’s plus the skin problems that accompany it, plus Rosacea, Most lip products irritate me, even certain balms. From expensive, down to drugstore ones. I have had Carnelian for the better part of a month. I have no problems with it.
Hi Tara! I’m sorry to learn of those struggles and I hope you have something that aids you comfortably! Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it and knowing you’ve had good luck with this! I wish you the highest and best good for your health! <3
I’m actually really impressed with these swatches. I’m starting to slowly climb out of my loathing of glosses, so I may give this a try. I can’t even remember the last time I tried anything from this brand, come to think of it!
xx
Jenny
What made you dislike glosses so much, Jenny?
Wow they look so pigmented! I’m digging the two redder shades. Might have to pick myself up one!
They are pretty packed with pigment!
I’m going to watch for a sale to pick up Carnelian (545). 😉
Yayyy! 🙂
Love Carnelian on you! By the way, How would you compare these to the Rimmel Show Off(Apocalips) lip lacquers?
Sorry, I don’t think I’ve tried those!
I’ve been lemming Crushed Cherry and Rouge Parade. I knew it would swatch similar to the Guerlain but I see the difference in the texture/brightness of the shade. I certainly don’t think I can justify all three purchases. I’ll need to get this ASAP and see if I still feel the need for the high end RP.
I just reviewed Pink Ruby last week on my blog, I loved it with the sole exception of the brush and the finest bit of grit I detected when I applied it. I like the high shine and the subtle 3D effect of the glosses, which is something I’d expect of a higher end brand.
Yeah, I’m not keen on the brush either!
Oh my gosh, the pigmentation on these are beautiful!! I’m definitely getting these as soon as they’re available in my nearby stores. Thank you so much for this review Christine!!
No problem, Nina!
So glad you’re reviewing these. They look nice but I’m gonna wait for the sale as they’re kinda pricey for drugstore/revlon in general.
It feels like most products are too pricey except on sale at the drugstore from some of the big brands like Revlon, L’Oreal, Maybelline, etc.
These colors are far too bold for me to wear personally, but they’re SO gorgeous. I love the fuschia flash effect in Pink Ruby. Would it be entirely crazy to buy it just to wear around the house and pretend to be fabulous?! 🙂
Nope, not at all! 😉 That’s step one to rock it OUT of the house!
I’ve picked up a couple, but unfortunately, formula is a miss for me. It felt like I needed a spatula to spread it. Tourmaline did not look good on me at all. And I swear if memory not failing, in the tube Pink Ruby looks exactly like Chanel’s Erotic Glossimer from early 2000s. I never wore this out, but I love the colour too much. It’s a replacement of the nostalgic value, but not sure that to do with it now either.
You, on the other hand, look positively gorgeous in all of these! 🙂
What other shades did you try, Elena?
I only got Tourmaline and Pink Ruby. It’s tempting to give less vibrant shades a go, even though the formula is a bit too thick for me.
Oh wow this is really pigmented and look lovely!
They are quite pigmented!
I’m not a gloss girl but these are definitely tempting me! These all look great on you Christine!!!
Thanks a lot, Diana! What do you dislike usually about gloss?
All of these will be mine! Especially Tourmaline. I love the color and shimmer.
Woohoo!!
Awesome swatch pictures!! Have you tried NYX lip products? They are my personal favorite, especially because I am not really a gloss fan. As you kindly pointed out some can get sticky and tacky and I am not a fan of that!
Yes, I’ve tried NYX lip products! You can check out reviews under Brands > NYX!
Pink Ruby looks beautiful, but I don’t know that I’d wear a shade like that in gloss form. If I do bold lips, I like to do it matte to increase the chances it’ll stay put all day. It’s beautiful though!
Grocery store ;D
ZOMG – how fabulous are Pink Ruby and Carnelian!?! Carnelian even has that ever-so-slightly muted mystique to it that I am mildly obsessed with at the moment…
6 months form now, when Revlon finally decides to bring these here, I will be all over some of them. I had to roll my eyes a little bit at the ‘HD’ in the name, but at least you can say from these ones that you get saturated, opaque colour!
I feel like “HD” is about 5 years too late, haha! I swear we did that trend already 😉
I bought one of these last week and returned it. It was WAY TOO TACKY FOR ME!!! Love all the shades you covered today! I won’t be tempted. Too many lines out their can accomplish the job with out my lips feeling like they are sticking together! Another reason I stay away from the drugstore! I haven’t attempted a drugstore purchase in ages, and when I do I end up returning it!
Totally understand, Lisa! I think they’re tacky enough that if you don’t like tacky gloss, these won’t be for you. Not at all “never sticky,” LOL!
Ooh, I definitely want to check out Carnelian!
Hope you can find it, Jade!
The Colorburst gloss line is on clearance at Ulta right now, most likely to make room for these!
Yeah, it seems like online retailers have only a handful of shades left 🙁
Aww man I didn’t know they were discontinuing the Colorburst glosses, I have them in almost every shade! Will definitely be picking some of these up though.
Me neither 🙁
you’re making me want to run to the nearest drugstore right now!
Haha!
I work at CVS and these have been staring me in the face. I can’t wait for more reviews from you so I can decide which ones to buy. Thanks, Christine!
No prob, Sarah!
Christine, just wondering — you gave two of the glosses As, though they were somewhat tacky, despite their claim to be never sticky. Is that what prevented them from getting an A+?
That is part of it, as well as the reasons listed in the review 🙂
Whoa, Carnelian looks super plush and glossy!
I already have Adorned and I don’t wear bright, bold pinks like these enough so I’m gonna pass on Pink Ruby. It is lovely though.
Definitely skip it if you have Adorned 🙂
I’m not too crazy about the glitter but the colour payoff is amazing!!
How freaking gorgeous is Carnelian? I’m a bit sad that they discontinued the ColorBurst Lip Gloss range, as there are a few shades that I wanted to pick up, but… Carnelian. <3
Pink Ruby is a show-stopper! I almost bought it, but then I chose Citrine. Stunning gloss but I have real difficulties achieving a clean line at the edge. I really wish it had a doe foot applicator too!
Dude. I’m totally making heart eyes at Pink Ruby over here! Not my kind of colour, but MAN do I ever love shades with dimensional shimmer — you know; the good stuff that actually shifts colour in the centre, not that glitter-city stuff.
(Though glitter city does have its moments, too :P)
Carnelian is gorgeous! I’m so relieved it got a high rating, haha.
OF COURSE THEY’RE DISCONTINUING THE ONLY REVLON LIP PRODUCT I LIKE.
Actually I’m pretty gutted. This formula doesn’t sound that similar (in terms of texture & hydration) to the ColorBurst range, which is what makes it so standout for me. I’ll have to think really hard on whether I want to grab backups. I know I’m definitely buying Adorned for everyone for Christmas!!!
They’re not really similar in terms of how they feel, and to a degree, how they look (most are more pigmented, it seems). 🙁
OMG, carnelian is such a pretty shade! <3
I personally don’t like tacky lipglosses, but Pink Ruby and Carnelian both look so gorgeous that I’m willing to ignore their sticky factor and get them both. 😉
It’s VERY difficult for me to stop looking at Pink Ruby and Carnelian… they’re SO GORGEOUS!
Wow they are all very pretty! I like glosses that are really pigmented~!
They all look beautiful on you Christine
oooh, that carnelian looks gorgeous on you!
I looooove Pink Ruby! Wishlist!
