Revlon HD Citrine Ultra HD Lip Lacquer
Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer ($8.99 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a very pigmented, high-shine formula that tends to be tacky (despite the brand saying it is “never sticky”) with a thicker consistency. There’s a very, very faint sweetness as far as scent goes, but it was hard to detect, even in the tube. The formula isn’t hydrating nor is it drying, so it is fairly comfortable to wear (as long as you don’t mind a thicker, tackier gloss to begin with). They feature a brush-type applicator, which seemed to give a rougher edge due to the thicker nature of the gloss. HD Citrine and HD Sunstone really stood out to me as a more unique shades that also performed well.
Revlon HD Citrine (550) Ultra HD Lip Lacquer is a bright orange with warm, reddish tones and lighter yellow gold shimmer. It had rich, opaque color payoff that covered ths lips well with even, smooth color. This shade lasted for almost six hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. NARS Wonder (P, $26.00) is less shimmery and sheerer. MAC Riviera Life (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Eclectic Edge (LE, $15.00) is darker, less shimmery. Illamasqua Temper (P, $22.00) has no shimmer. Burberry Coral (P, $29.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Revlon HD Amber (555) Ultra HD Lip Lacquer is a muted orange-copper with orange and gold shimmer. Despite having a similar texture to other shades in the range, it was rather sheer–at most, semi-sheer–but the base color didn’t seem to do much. It lasted for three and a half hours. It could also have gone on more evenly, but luckily, the shimmer distracted the eye from some of the unevenness. MAC Water Deities (LE, $15.00) is less warm-toned, lighter. Divergent Temptation’s Choice (LE) is less shimmery. Maybelline Glistening Amber (055) (P, $8.99) is similar. Illamasqua Culminate (LE, $24.00) is pinker. Revlon Peach (P, $7.49) is similar (I think HD Amber is its replacement). Dior Ambre Lumiere (227) (P, $29.50) is more bronze. Chanel Attirance (LE, $32.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Revlon HD Sunstone (565) Ultra HD Lip Lacquer is a brightened, medium coral-orange with warm undertones and finer light gold pearl. It had full color coverage that went on fairly evenly and smoothly. Some of the color pulled slightly into lip lines, but the high-shine finish helped to minimize the appearance. The gloss wore well for five hours on me. Revlon Kiss Me Coral (P, $7.99) is less shimmery. Revlon Papaya (P, $7.49) is pinker. Guerlain Candy Stripe (P, $30.00) is darker, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

That orange looks gorgeous on you! glad you’re reviewing these. From the swatches I did in store, the hd lipsticks formula wise may be drugstore dupes for the nars audacious lipsticks.
Citrine is so pretty!
I love Sunstone on you! The others seem too shimmery and gloopy for my liking.
Thanks, Divya! They’re definitely a thicker gloss!
I like the look of Sunstone! The shimmer isn’t too obvious.
Yay!
I like way the Citrine looked on you. Made your lips really pop without being too flashy
It’s very glossy!
Citrine will make a perfect summer shade!! Looks gorgeous on you!!
Agreed!
That first one sure is bright!! Wow!!
True story!
Wow, bravo, Revlon! They have really come up with products that look unique enough to pass as high-end and then some! These remind me of stuff you’d see from MUFE and so on 🙂
I really like how pigmented they are!
Pretty on you, I bought the nude beige one, forget the name, and it’s nice. They have dimension to them.
Happy you’re enjoying one, Liz!
Ohhh I really like sunstone! Even though I’ve moved away from lip glosses, this one seems worth the buy.
If you like pigmented glosses, yes!
Not my color, but Citrine is gorgeous in terms of color, pigmentation, and shine! I bet it outperforms many HE glosses.
It’s more interesting? I think. But it’s one of those things – if you prefer pigmented gloss, there are only a few formulas (period) to consider, but if you prefer sheerer gloss or even a more lightweight, non-sticky kind of gloss, then one might hate these!
Oh man, these are beautiful! The formula sounds pretty nice too. I’ve been holding out on trying these but I think I’m going to grab a few very soon
Other than the tackiness, Citrine/Sunstone worked out nicely!
All 3 of these just scream summer! that citrine is a must!
Love how it shimmers!
One of my New Year’s resolutions was going to be not to buy a ton of lip products and to use up what I have first. But I’m finding one color in every post of these! Sunstone could be my favorite spring/summer color in a long time. Maybe I have time to buy them all before the new year so it won’t count?
LOL!
Citrine is stunning, especially since there are so few decent orange glosses out there.
It is so pigmented!
Citrine looks amazing on you and sunstone! I really like revlon , they know how to do great products for lips and very affordable.
They really do!
Citrine = Love
🙂
I’m crazy about all of them.
ooh, yay! 🙂
Score!! I’m going to get these for Christmas gifts for my nieces! Even though Amber only got a C-, I think it would be great for my 9yo niece, since it’s so sheer. And the 13yo will only wear orange, so Citrine is perfect for her. I swear, the kid is like a traffic cone.
Thanks for helping with my Christmas shopping!
It is a pretty shade – just not at allllll pigmented like described – but it’s not bad if you like sheer 🙂
I picked up Citrine and Sunstone at Target like I said. I gave the Citrine to my niece and it was not pigmented AT ALL. My dorky brother even put it on for a laugh, and you could barely see it.
The Sunstone on me is electric orange and doesn’t look anything like this. It’s closer to what Citrine looks like here.
I wonder if there is a labeling problem somewhere because this seems to surpass even a quality control issue. But my niece loved it anyway, so all’s well that ends well.
Did you get the Revlon HD lacquers, Lisa? I think that the ColorBurst range has the same named shades! That’s all I can think of!
Wow, Citrine is fabulous and it looks beautiful on you, Christine. I don’t usually like orange lips on myself but I might have to pick it up for a friend who rocks them. I like oranges more on people who either lean warm, or are extremely cool. I’m slightly cool to neutral and I don’t feel like they compliment me without cooling them down with a red or pink liner, but when it’s either harmonious with the overall warm coloring or a really stark contrast to very cool coloring I find it very flattering.
Do you have any oranges that you particularly like for you (that you don’t have to alter)?
I’ve got several coral or orange-red colors that I wear on their own, but no true oranges that I can think of. Maybe MAC CB96 years ago? I want to try a very neon orange that is not too light; I recently got WnW 24 Carrot Gold and it was intensely unflattering, but I think a deeper orange could be fine. Maybe MAC Neon Orange or the UD orange lipstick. The funny thing is that I’m comfortable wearing oranges and yellows on my eyes, but on the lips I find orange very unforgiving.
I own Citrine, and I agree that it’s a stunning color, and something incredibly unique for a drugstore product! I can see a green tint to the shimmer depending on how the light hits it.
I am among the people who have feathering issues with it, and I end up with pieces of shimmer around my mouth pretty fast. It’s not a deal-breaker for me because it’s such a beautiful gloss, but it makes it a little more high-maintenance. I can’t get my hands on that transparent lip liner I used to have but that could probably help. It also transfers on everything but that’s no surprise for that kind of gloss.
I recently bought another one (Petalite) and I have my eyes on Pink Ruby, but now I might need to add Sunstone to the list!
Sorry to hear about feathering issues, Lulle! 🙁 What a bummer!
Sunstone brightened up your whole face – beautiful on you!
Thanks, Jenny!
I’m not usually a fan of orange lip products, but Citrine looks gorgeous on you! But I think I might have to go with Sunstone instead. Do you think Sunstone would work on olive skin? I feel like I always have a hard time pulling off coral lipsticks.
I think it would, Lisa! 🙂
Sunstone is beautiful but I’m not sure I can pull it off!
I bet you could ;P
I love HD Sunstone. I pull pink enough on me to be a wearable orange. 😉
Yay!
Fell in love with Citrine!
Me too!
Citrine and Sunstone are smokin’! Besides the shimmery goodness (especially Citrine!), and beautiful shades, I love how pigmented they are, and how smooth they look on the lips. Great summer colors!
You’re UD Naked on the Run look looks terrific. 🙂
Aw, thanks Pami! 😀
Wow… I’m in a non-gloss phase right now, but that Citrine swatch is gorgeous.
It is so vibrant!
Ooooh, I love citrine and sunstone! My kind of shades!
Woohoo!
Citrine is so pretty on you! Is this a lip gloss or a liquid lipstick? Or one of those hybrids?
It’s a gloss! 🙂
Sunstone and Citrine look wonderful on you Christine! These are really great shades for spring/summer. Iwant to get Sunstone for myself, I don’t think I can quite get away with Citrine because I know it’ll make me look seriously jaundiced!
Thank you, Nancy! 🙂 Glad one will work for you!
These shades look gorgeous on you! Your skin always looks amazing and flawless. What’s your secret? Do tell!
I owe my skin to prescription products – Differin and clindamycin (topical antibiotic).
Wow,Citrine is perfect for the Empress Phoenix look! Sunstone is also nice. Must look into these.
Woohoo!
Citrine and Sunstone are gorgeous! I am definitely convinced now that I need to check out a couple of these!
They’re worth trying if you don’t mind thicker glosses!
All three of these look so beautiful on you Christine! Especially Citrine, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an orange gloss this pretty.
Thank you! 🙂
O_O OK, so Citrine might just have to be my gateway into orange lippies. Maybe Sunstone might have to find its way to me too >_> Now I just have to wait the 6 months or so until Revlon brings them down here, LOL! (not like I don’t have enough to play with at the moment…)
Seriously, the shimmer in these is just gorgeous, and I find shimmer always helps when you want to wear a colour that’s a little outside your usual zone. You look stunning in Citrine, btw! Amber *looks* decent (I agree the shimmer helps with unevenness too), but it’s a shame it doesn’t match up to the evenness/longevity of the others.
It’s soooo bright!
I wish brands would just make their ranges have finishes or give shades some descriptions. I feel like Amber was probably meant to be sheer, yet the whole point of the formula was PIGMENT!!!! so it’s this odd man out – well call that out!
Oooh…. I think I need sunstone to feed my coral lip product addiction!
just got citrine based on your review! so beautiful! but I do wish it’s a little more plumbing because when I wear a gloss I hate seeing lines.
I’m glad you’re liking it for the most part! 🙂
