Orange and Yellow Eyeliners: Swatches, Dupes, and Comparisons

Orange Eyeliners: MAC Obviously Orange, MAC Genuine Orange, MAC Primary Yellow

Orange (and Yellow) Eyeliners: Your Guide

It might be safe to say that orange and yellow are the most under-represented colors within the eyeliners that I have! I only found two orange eyeliners, neither similar to the other, and one yellow.  It really makes me want to hunt down others now!

  1. MAC Obviously Orange is a medium orange with subtle red undertones. (LE)
  2. MAC Genuine Orange is a brightened, tangerine orange with a matte finish. (Not listed as eye safe, but I know many still use it, so I included it.)
  3. MAC Primary Yellow is a bright pop of medium yellow with a matte finish.

TEMPTALIA PICKS:  #2 (quality), #3 (quality)

Behind-the-Series:  It was my intention to provide heavy, opaque swatches to provide an accurate color comparison.  Some eyeliners required one pass, some required five, and a few even more.  When possible, the shade name (above) is linked to the original review so you can read more about the quality, wear, etc. of a particular eyeliner.  If we’ve never done a review, there will be no link.  Shades that were limited edition will be marked with “(LE)” and shades that were discontinued will be marked with “(DC)” after the color description.  You can also find all comparisons on The Dupe List.

What’s your favorite orange eyeliner? How do you like to use it?

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Didn’t you have some NYX liners too? Not that they have an orange, but they do have a yellow, and other colors you’ve done. I could really go for a good orange, myself.

This is such a useful series you’re doing, Christine! I can’t say I use orange and yellow liners often, but I do have a couple and love them for “double lining” above a black. I’ve also used yellow once or twice to cover redness on my lower water line when my eyes were REALLY irritated

Sephora made an orange eyeliner this year from their Tangerine Tango color of the year….it’s still pretty easy to find (and on clearance!) if you are in a Sephora store. some of my friends used it as a lipliner for the tangerine lipstick :

I have the Sephora Tangerine Tango liner they did this year. I was terrified of it at first, but it actually worked really well on me as an eyeliner with my fair skin and blue-green eyes.

It’s also a good one to pair with navy blue liner for college football game day!
