OFRA Star Island Highlighter Review & Swatches
Star Island
OFRA Star Island Highlighter ($29.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a bright, pale yellow gold with warm undertones (but doesn’t lean orange) paired with a metallic finish. The highlighter was richly pigmented with a smooth, creamy consistency that was dense without being too firmly pressed in the pan. It picked up easily with a brush but had that “melted” look once applied and blended out on my skin. The highlighter applied well to bare skin and blended out with ease. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have a "liquid to baked technology" that has "unparalleled pigment payoff" that can be used as a highlighter as well as an eyeshadow or as a blush topper." It's a very pigmented formula with a high-shine, metallic finish that will be most suitable for someone who wants an intense highlighter.
The texture was denser but not dry or difficult to work with, so it seemed to melt onto the skin the more I buffed and blended the highlighter on. They lasted between eight and nine hours on me before fading noticeably.

That is an especially lovely example of a pale warm gold. I must have a half dozen variations on gold highlighters, but I don’t think any of them quite nail it — this one does. Pale gold is my HG color, since it’s basically a brighter version of my own skin, and I’ve been looking for the Goldilocks version of such a thing. As much as I really don’t need another highlighter, I may have to go for this.
It is! It’s light without being the typical white gold but it doesn’t get into that orange/peach territory.
Due to my having UD Now’s The Time, I didn’t get this one, but instead ordered Bali based on a bunch of IG pics. Here’s hoping it will be as lovely as Star Island once I apply it. Something about it having an almost duochrome peachy-bronzey base with a bright yellow gold shift just won me over!
Bali is still a nice one! 😉 It’s big “downside” when I reviewed mine was that it wasn’t as pigmented – but still buildable.
Buildable is good with a darker shade of gold like that! At least for me with my krinkles starting high on my cheekbones of recent years. I now appreciate a more buildable highlighter, whereas only a few years ago, I still loved the “seen from space” ones. Cheek krinkles, though. ?♀️
I ended up getting the duo with this and Neptune in the Ulta sale…it looks like it could totally work with my cool skin…just hoping it’s light enough!
I think I am going to give this one a try. I usually have trouble with any gold highlight as they all seem to look too dark on my upper cheekbones. This appears to give a really nice lift and I would love to find a gold highlight that looks nice on me.
I hope it works well for you, Deborah!
This will look STUNNING on you, Deborah!
Thanks, Cee Bee. I just put the order in so we will see. Worse case scenario, I have a new eye shadow, LOL!
Like BUTTAH!
I tend to reach for Rodeo Drive over this but given how winter pale I am at thr mo, I should dig this one out and have a play.
