OCC Pleasure Model & Hollywood Lip Tars Reviews, Photos, Swatches

OCC Pleasure Model Lip Tar
OCC Pleasure Model Lip Tar

For spring, OCC’s bringing us Plastic Passion, which features six new Lip Tars, two of which I have ready to review for you today. Though I was pretty jazzed about Pool Boy, I have to admit, I was really, really excited for the new metallic Lip Tars, because they looked like they would work beautifully as highlighters, too. They’re both subtle highlighters–they give off a lovely glowing sheen that’s more apparent in person than in photos, but it’s a little dewy, slightly luminous. As highlighters, they wore well for eight hours. As lip colors, the finish and lightness of both shades made them high maintenance shades–it’s imperative to exfoliate prior to applying so that they look and apply smoothly and evenly.

OCC Pleasure Model Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “pearlescent pink.” It’s a light-medium, rosy pink with subtle warm, peach undertones and a cooler pink iridescent sheen. It was mostly opaque on lips, but some of the natural lip color peeks through. The thing I noticed about this shade on the lips was that between the lighter color and the frostier, more metallic finish, it’s unforgiving if you have any imperfections–it’s definitely a higher maintenance lip color. I highly recommend exfoliating prior to applying it. It wore five hours on me, which is longer than the average lipstick, but short for a Lip Tar.  I mixed this to brighten, warm, and add a little shimmer to Mannequin Lip Tar, and it mixed well. NARS Paimpol (P, $25.00) is lighter, and it looks a lot different applied. MAC Annemiek (LE, $22.00) is cooler-toned. Guerlain Rose Innocent (LE, $49.50) is pinker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

Hollywood Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “beige/gold shimmer.” It’s a light peachy-beige with a golden sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but it had a very slight translucency that allowed the natural lip color to come through a bit. Like Pleasure Model, I think it is one of the more unforgiving Lip Tars, as it will catch on any imperfections on the lips. This shade also lasted five hours on me. MAC You’ve Got It (LE, $16.00) has a similar sheen but is pinker and sheerer. MAC Warm Companion (LE, $16.00) is sheerer. MAC Secret Lover (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

I think these would be beautiful mixed with a another lip tar. Hollywood should look great with Starling or Lydia actually. And yeah, these seem more like highlighters than actual lip colours. I cannot get over the beautiful golden sheen Hollyood has.

Would pleasure model work with Asian skin (yellow undertone, light to medium skin tone) without making me look washed out? I see it has a pinkish tone to it on you but it might just be your natural lip color coming through? I use warm ivory of Bobbi brown for my face powder and pale yellow for concealer and I’m afraid of wearing nude lip color cos I always look so washed out or ghastly 🙁

With Pris, Zhora, and Lovecraft already in the collection, it looks like I can probably get away with skipping these. (Thank goodness!)

Between Plastic Passion, OCC pencils, and the new Hourglass blushes, I was getting seriously worried about my beauty budget. Still, Pool Boy and Rollergirl are probably going to end up with me.

You mentioned that these wear well as highlighters. Are you wearing them as highlighters in the photos as well because your skin really does look very pretty and dewy.

Ivana Avatar

I´m sorry to say it, but I don´t think anybody should wear these on the lips. They´re just awful to look at. Most people will look washed out with these lip tars on the lips.

Christine Avatar

Keep in mind that your opinion doesn’t drive or dictate what others should feel comfortable wearing – saying that they’re awful and no one should wear them is disrespectful to those who *would* wear them, who *do* like them. It’s one thing if you don’t want to wear them that way or don’t think they’d work for you, but there’s no reason to make blanket statements about other people. Temptalia is a place where readers should feel as comfortable rocking a green lipstick as a pink one as the palest beige or the inkiest black. I’m not asking you to like it, but I am asking you to allow others to like it without judgment.

How long can you use these lip tars? I’m not asking what the company writes on them as expiration dates, in life how long can you use them until they start to seperate or have a bad smell, etc.? (roughly of course 🙂 )

I really don’t like the finish of these at all. They show every bit of dryness and they even look grainy (probably because of dry skin) on the lips. I only like the super smoothing glossy looking lipsticks, though, so it’s not a big surprise that I don’t like these.

So pretty on you but probably too light on me. I do have a question…if you get a second. Okay if not! I love lip tars but really don’t like the lip tar stains…which on me wear for about 10 minutes. I love the gold sheen on Hollywood. Do these wear more like a lip tar (classic) or like the stain? I’m considering buying it to use on top of other colors…but only if it wears like the tars not the stains…not sure based on your review.
Pretty on you…

Christine, what colors are you wearing on the last full face photo?! It looks stunning!!!! I wish you did tutorials!! but thank you for super helpful reviews!

I was looking at Old Hollywood but am thinking about skipping it. I’ll swatch it to see how it’d look as a highlighter though, never thought to use them like that. Your last picture with the Pleasure Model + Mannequin Lip Tars, your eyeshadow is done. I’m not a pink person but it makes your brown eyes pop, what are you wearing??

AudreyNZ Avatar

Sorry, I looked but couldn’t find…or simply the eyes just didn’t want to see, what eyeshadows are you wearing? I love the combo you have there.

Sondra Avatar

I think I’d like to try Old Hollywood. I would definitely use it to mix with other liproducts. Thanks for showing all the different ways to wear it.

Wow Christine, I haven’t come on here in a while …but wow your skin looks AMAZING! I remember once upon a time you posted that you dealt with acne/scars and such ….mind sharing your foundation and skincare routine???? I know it’s totally off-topic but I just HAVE TO KNOW!

These are definitely great for mixing and/or highlighters– I don’t think I could pull them off alone. I do have a question: what are your tips for applying these as highlighters? I assume you don’t need very much product, but do you use a brush or your hand (or a sponge?)– I’m not sure what would be the best way.

Christine Avatar

Lovely colors and I wish that I was fairer to be able to pull these off…I just dipped my toes into the nude category and surprisingly I do enjoy lighter colors on me. I can totally see these as an accent topper on some of my darker colors. As highlighters…love!!! How did you apply them as highlighters Christine? Also, what are you wearing on your eyes in the last pic? Just lovely.

And OT….you’re killing me…those are my favorite earrings of yours 😉

Hi Christine!

I squeeze a little on the back of a metal palette, and then I use a stippling brush (like MAC’s 188) and then stipple it on! The eyeshadows are from Bobbi Brown x L’Wren Scott’s palette – but they’re not very good, so I don’t recommend them. http://www.temptalia.com/bobbi-brown-x-lwren-scott-amnesia-rose-palette-review-photos-swatches

Hey Christine!

Love your site, I don’t buy a lipstick without checking your review! Do you think MAC Tanarama is a dupe for OCC Hollywood? Thanks!
