Pale Pink

NYX Pale Pink Matte Lipstick ($5.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a brighter, light-medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had good color coverage that applied without streaking, but the slightly denser, thicker texture seemed prone to sitting in my lip lines, especially within an hour of wear. The lipstick applied without tugging and felt lightly creamy, so a lip liner might help alleviate some of the settling issues with this shade. It wore well for four hours and was lightly drying.

The Matte Lipstick is supposed to be “highly pigmented” and have a “velvety, non-glossy” finish. In general, the formula has semi-opaque to opaque color coverage with a velvety texture that glides on without tugging but doesn’t have a lot of slip, so the lipstick won’t slide around while worn. The formula varied from non-drying to moderately drying with wear times that ranged from four to over six hours (deeper, reddish shades lasted quite long). It has a mint scent and no discernible taste. I noticed that the packaging had a tendency to twist up the lipstick too easily (even barely holding it) and sometimes would twist down as I would apply it directly from the tube.

Couture

NYX Couture Matte Lipstick ($5.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium pink with soft, yellow undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had good color payoff in a single stroke, which was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was lightweight, lightly creamy, and comfortable to apply, but the thickness of it made it prone to catching on every imperfection and sinking into lip lines. It wore well for four hours and was lightly drying.

Hippie Chic

NYX Hippie Chic Matte Lipstick ($5.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a light-medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that covered the lips without streaking or uneven coverage, but the color seemed more white-based and appeared almost chalky applied to the lips. This shade settled noticeably into my lip lines, which only got worse with time. It lasted for four hours and was lightly drying.

These are just too pale for my complexion, although Couture looks fan on you. Strangely, I do have MAC Please Me. But I have come to the conclusion that i need more color and/or depth in my lip colors for my coloring. Exceptions being: MAC Shy Girl or Marque and UD Abstract, otherwise very weird looking on me. Might give Please Me to my daughter, as her winter coloring is much lighter than mine at NC25, but she’s my color during summer.

To me, these all have an early to mid sixties vibe. Just before the Beatles hit. Then these were the shades. No concealer lips nudes. It was Revlon, Naked Pink (which is not the same now,) Bare Beige, Powder Pink, and Cape Coral. These are massive throwbacks to me. Not revisiting unless I have to go to a midcentury party! Think girl groups, the Crystals, Supremes, Chiffons, American Bandstand. Which made me think…
The groups could be POC, but the audience was never POC, at least early on. How queasy it made you feel, even then. But Ronnie Spector, yes, she was virtually imprisoned in a marriage to Phil, had the first perfect iconic cat eye. Google it some time. Classy woman.

Hippie Chic and Pale Pink where the two shades I got from this line that made me not want to buy any more from this formula. They just looked so bad on me, dry filled in lip lines and underflattering even those these pale shades are the ones I like.

I do wonder if they reformulated these because they don’t look as chalky on you compared to the way I remembered them. 😕
