NYX Earl Grey, Violet, Lavender Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
NYX Macaron Lippie
NYX Earl Grey Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, light-medium cornflower blue–a purplish-blue–with a luminous finish. The formula was creamy with a lot of slip, but for a lighter shade, it ended up applying better than anticipated, though it was still somewhat streaky. It had mostly opaque color coverage (but if it was a drier formula, I think it would have yielded better pigmentation). On me, the color wore well for three and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Butch (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NYX Violet Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium purple with warm, pinky-red undertones and a natural finish. It had good color payoff, while the formula still felt very creamy and slippery, it applied pretty well with even color. It wore well for almost six hours, and it leaves behind a fuchsia-ish stain behind. It was neither drying nor hydrating. Melt Cosmetics By Starlight (P, $19.00) is darker, more matte. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Rollergirl (P, $18.00) is a smidgen darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Belladonna (DC, $18.00) is darker, less warm-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NYX Lavender Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a cool-toned, light-medium lavender with a creamy, lightly glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which went on a bit streakily and had a tendency to settle into lip lines as it wore on. It wasn’t moisturizing, but it was drying either. The color wore well for four hours on me. Kat Von D Coven (P, $21.00) is warmer, more matte. MAC Fresh Amour (LE, $16.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Christine, your face looks flawless, what are you wearing?? I need to know :p
THE MAKEUP LOOK
On face: Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation, Guerlain Les Voilettes Loose Powder, MAC Modest Blush. On eyes: Sephora Good Mood Eyeliner.
OH MAN that Violet!! It’s like prismatic purple fairies descended from the twilight realm and blessed us with the perfect pastel bright red-purple lipstick.
I would wear the heck out of it. I should ask for it for Christmas.
Would make a nice stocking stuffer 🙂
Your picture of Earl Grey looks blue, but the one I have is a true pale grey…
Anyway, Earl Grey has literally been the best investment I’ve made in terms of makeup-it has saved me from tossing over a dozen nude lipsticks that were too peach/orange/warm, and I’m planning on grabbing a backup when I place an order for a few other NYX lippies.
I think it was Sesame that was gray for me, but this is very blue (even in the tube/swatch – it’s pretty true to the tube for me!).
Mine is like yours, Christine. Sesame is pale gray and Earl Grey is pale blue. Little confusing but that’s what it is.
BLACK Sesame* Even more color confusion 😉
Ooops!… Nevermind my previous comment-the one I have is Black Sesame, LOL! Still, these lippies mix well with every brand I’ve tried them with, and can breathe new life into lippies that have gotten boring, or just weren’t the “right” shade!
Thanks for clearing it up 🙂
What an interesting use for this! I might just have to try that!
I wasn’t too into these, though I guess since they are so affordable it wouldn’t hurt to have a couple in your collection if the occasion to wear one ever arose, lol. Of these three, I’d probably go for Early Grey. 🙂
Earl Grey is interesting!
These colours are really interesting, although not something I would reach for myself (although Violet looks like it could be more wearable for me than others from NYX you’ve feature recently). Even though they’re not my cup of tea, I do appreciate companies like NYX that offer something unique and different!
It is always nice. And I appreciate that you can appreciate the colors, even if you wouldn’t wear it 😀
Ooooooh Violet…
Nice pick!
I’m LOVING Earl Grey. I don’t like BLUE blue lipsticks, so the slight gray in this makes it my kinda shade!
Yayyyyy! 🙂 Super unique!
I love your blog so much because I’m someone who really hates having a bunch of dupes. Violet interested me before but I’m realizing now that I have an Inglot lipstick that is seriously a 100% match. I had my eye on Earl Grey before, i think it’s quite unique, so that’s a winner. As for Lavender, I might check out Lime Crime or Kat Von D Coven. I do prefer matte after all.
Thank you so much, Hex! 🙂
I have both Earl Grey and Lavender! I find them both kind of patchy for individual wear, but I like layering them over dark purples.
Ooh, what is your fave combo with them?
So So Beautiful. Wish they sold them near me.
Aw 🙁
Oh man that Lavender shade looks way better on you than it looks on me! I do like it with a pink lipliner underneath though. I was very impressed by the wearing time.
What pink lip liner do you use with it?
Earl Grey and Lavender look hard to pull off but I love Violet. It hasn’t left my purse since I got it. It’s such a beautiful purple!
Happy you were able to snag Violet, Fancie!
You’re turning violet, Violet! Couldn’t resist 🙂 Not sure if I like them for everyday wear. I might be able to pull off violet though.
Hahaha!! 😉
I really love Violet. It’s one of my favorite purple lipsticks.
Me too! Very nice, and it’s just icing on the cake that it’s $6.
Do you think I should buy violet even though I own Heroine by Mac, Christine?
I guess it depends on whether you wear Heroine often or not?
Violet is beautiful! Lavender looks like a Lime Crime shade…
It is a pretty color! Bright but not neon.
Pretty! I wanna see the peach one 😀
Hopefully soon!
Please tell us how you manage to look so pretty in crazy colors like these, Christine? 🙂
Smile! 🙂
Love this , my favourite is the the blue one x
Yay!
Ooh ooh ooh, Violet is sooo pretty on you!
Also, Violet looks Mac Heroine-like, but not matte. Do you think so?
Nah, definitely not like Heroine! Heroine has a lot more warmth and pink to it!
How does NYX Violet compare to Dodgy Girl by Mac?
Totally different! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=165996&dupe=177766
Again, in my eyes NYX are winners for putting out these lipsticks. I love Violett, of course, but I also really like Lavender, It might be harder to pull off, as I have a harder time with pale colours, but it’s so pretty.
Violet is a nice one all around!
I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on Early Grey and Violet here…Lavender too, but it has probably more white in it than I’m really thrilled with, and the patchiness is… eh. I do like that they called one Earl Grey though 😉 It’s one of my favourite teas! (can’t speak to the individual – never met him 😉 )
