NYX Earl Grey, Violet, Lavender Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

NYX Earl Grey Lippie
NYX Macaron Lippie

NYX Earl Grey Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, light-medium cornflower blue–a purplish-blue–with a luminous finish. The formula was creamy with a lot of slip, but for a lighter shade, it ended up applying better than anticipated, though it was still somewhat streaky. It had mostly opaque color coverage (but if it was a drier formula, I think it would have yielded better pigmentation). On me, the color wore well for three and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Butch (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Violet Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium purple with warm, pinky-red undertones and a natural finish. It had good color payoff, while the formula still felt very creamy and slippery, it applied pretty well with even color. It wore well for almost six hours, and it leaves behind a fuchsia-ish stain behind. It was neither drying nor hydrating. Melt Cosmetics By Starlight (P, $19.00) is darker, more matte. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Rollergirl (P, $18.00) is a smidgen darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Belladonna (DC, $18.00) is darker, less warm-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Lavender Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a cool-toned, light-medium lavender with a creamy, lightly glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which went on a bit streakily and had a tendency to settle into lip lines as it wore on. It wasn’t moisturizing, but it was drying either. The color wore well for four hours on me. Kat Von D Coven (P, $21.00) is warmer, more matte. MAC Fresh Amour (LE, $16.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Your picture of Earl Grey looks blue, but the one I have is a true pale grey…

Anyway, Earl Grey has literally been the best investment I’ve made in terms of makeup-it has saved me from tossing over a dozen nude lipsticks that were too peach/orange/warm, and I’m planning on grabbing a backup when I place an order for a few other NYX lippies.

Ooops!… Nevermind my previous comment-the one I have is Black Sesame, LOL! Still, these lippies mix well with every brand I’ve tried them with, and can breathe new life into lippies that have gotten boring, or just weren’t the “right” shade!

These colours are really interesting, although not something I would reach for myself (although Violet looks like it could be more wearable for me than others from NYX you’ve feature recently). Even though they’re not my cup of tea, I do appreciate companies like NYX that offer something unique and different!

I love your blog so much because I’m someone who really hates having a bunch of dupes. Violet interested me before but I’m realizing now that I have an Inglot lipstick that is seriously a 100% match. I had my eye on Earl Grey before, i think it’s quite unique, so that’s a winner. As for Lavender, I might check out Lime Crime or Kat Von D Coven. I do prefer matte after all.

I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on Early Grey and Violet here…Lavender too, but it has probably more white in it than I’m really thrilled with, and the patchiness is… eh. I do like that they called one Earl Grey though 😉 It’s one of my favourite teas! (can’t speak to the individual – never met him 😉 )
