Pastel

Natasha Denona Pastel 15-Pan Small Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.67 oz.) is a new, limited edition mid-sized pastel-hued palette from Natasha Denona. For a pastel palette, it was very workable and performed well, but against the brand’s typical quality, there were some shades that fell short for sure. I found the cream-powder finishes in the palette to be less cream-like, and therefore not as dense/emollient, compared to past releases, which some may prefer or find deal-breaking.

Tulle (422CP)

Tulle (422CP) is a medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The product had a cream-powder finish, which picked up like a powder but seemed to settle on my skin more like a cream–more seamless. It had rich pigmentation that wore well for nine hours on me before showing signs of fading.

Formula Overview

-

The majority of the brand's eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they're applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.

Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted--it is a bit more yielding now.

Illusion (423DC) is a pale, whitish-beige base with pink-to-lavender shifting shimmer. It had more of a pearl-like sheen than intense metallic finish. It had mostly opaque, buildable pigmentation with a moderately-dense, smooth texture that blended out well. It lasted well for nine hours before fading noticeably.

Bora (424CP)

Bora (424CP) is a light-medium purple with warm, pink undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had a cream-powder texture, so it had more glide to it when touched, but it was actually a little powdery when I put my brush to it. The product applied best with a denser brush and pressed on, then diffused and blended out. It wore well for nine hours on me before showing signs of fading.

Adriatic (427DC) is a brighter, medium-dark bluish-aqua with cool undertones and a subtle, golden sheen that was slightly metallic. Bubble (430CP)

Bubble (430CP) is a light, periwinkle blue with strong, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had a cream-powder finish, so it was a little denser and had more slip, but it wasn’t as firm or as cream-like as some of the darker, cream-powder shades we have seen in the past, so there was a little powderiness in practice. It had semi-opaque, somewhat buildable coverage that wore well for nine hours on me before showing signs of fading.

Limoncello (169M)

Limoncello (169M) is a light-medium yellow with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had rich pigmentation that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well, thanks to its smooth, lightly dense texture. It lasted well for nine hours before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.08 oz. - $362.50 Per Ounce

Duet (431DC)

Duet (431CM) is a bright, pinky-lavender base with blue-to-lavender shifting shimmer and a metallic finish. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and dense without being too thick, which yielded full color payoff in one layer. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Airy (432CM)

Airy (432CM) is a pale, sky blue with cooler undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, somewhat powdery, and on the thinner side compared to most of the brand’s matte eyeshadows these days, which resulted in more semi-sheer color coverage with light fallout, though it was somewhat buildable. I would pair this with a primer for best results. It wore well for seven hours on me before showing signs of fading.

Zest (433CP)

Zest (433CP) is a bright, greenish-chartreuse with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was on the more powdery side, so there was light fallout and a tendency for it to cling to skin texture (if dry). It had mostly opaque color coverage that lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

I just don’t know. Been watching several YT reviewers also speak on the lighter matte blues and the periwinkle as being more powdery and needing to be built up, although one who actually has an art background explained that in order for pastels, especially mattes to work on darker skintones, some sheerness is actually a good idea, otherwise those could appear ashy. Her point DOES make sense to me. Just not sure pastel mattes are even attractive on us true medium and deeper skintones, though. I’ve never felt all that pretty in them even back in the 70’s when they were a thing!

I think this is a well balanced pastel palette, with all shade colours you would expect to find here. There were a couple of minor duds, but with some primer they will probably be OK – although at this price point you shouldn’t have any.
I can see all the pastel loving people really enjoying this palette.

Such a beautiful palette. However it would have to be perfect to spend the money. I have the pastel shades I prefer from Sydney Grace and they really are perfect. Christine’s review helped me decide against, I think I’ll just pick up a few more shimmers from SG to complete my little made pastel palette. Thanks for the helpful review Christine!
