NARS x Connor Tingley Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Connor Tingley
NARS Connor Tingley 6-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that contains six, shimmery shades of more muted neutrals. This palette will be most versatile when paired with other palettes/eyeshadows due to it being all shimmery but also more mid-tone; there wasn’t a lot of contrast and depth that could be created just living in the world of this palette. Five of the six shades performed fairly well with a few being particularly lovely–that really melted metallic kind of finish that NARS can do so well at times–but the pop of blue was a let-down.

Luz
Luz is a pale white gold with subtle, warm undertones and a bright, metallic sheen. The pigmentation was opaque, while the consistency was more loosely pressed in the pan, so it was somewhat powdery in the pan, but it applied evenly to my skin and had minimal fallout. It blended out easily along the edges and appeared more “melted” after a couple of minutes. It stayed on well for eight hours before I noticed any fading.

Formula Overview
$19.00/0.04 oz. - $475.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "rich, high-impact color" that is "lightweight" and has "increased blendability." Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks "melted" on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.
Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS' eyeshadows for years and didn't change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.
Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

Duendo
Duendo is a muted, rosy bronze with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, cream-like texture that felt rich and dense without actually being thick on my lid. The eyeshadow applied beautifully with smooth, lit-from-within kind of glow when blended out. It wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade.

It had rich pigmentation in a single layer, while the consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and blendable without being too dense or too thick on my lid. It lasted beautifully for eight hours on me before it started to fade visibly.

Amanecer
Amanecer is a light peach with strong, warm yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer with a soft, lightly powdery texture that “melted” when applied to my lid and had a very pretty, smooth sheen that was flattering to any lid texture. The eyeshadow blended out well and stayed on nicely for eight hours on me.

Cielo
Cielo is a light, golden taupe with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. Most of the sparkles seemed to disappear by the time the product was applied and blended out on my lid, so it didn’t seem to have additional fallout during wear. The consistency was soft, smooth, and lightly creamy, which made for each application of opaque coverage but it had a few larger flecks that made it look a little patchy along the edge at certain angles–something I find happens with creamier metallic finishes that look great in person but in still photos can look less blended. It wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade noticeably.

Oscura
Oscura is a muted, medium-dark navy blue with cool undertones and a sparkly finish. The texture was drier and more firmly-pressed in the pan compared to the other five shades in the palette, and it yielded semi-opaque coverage on my lid. There was moderate fallout during application, and it was hard to diffuse and blend out the edge seamlessly. It could work decently as a lid shade or smudged against the lash line, but it just didn’t have the blendability for crease/transition placement. This shade lasted well for seven and a half hours on me before I noticed fading.

It’a a shame Oscura wasn’t better, but I still love the color. I think it would be pretty foiled on the lid.
…to add to what you said, Rachel R., for someone like me, who actually prefers more subdued colours when it comes to blues, purples, other “colours” (as opposed to neutrals), Oscura’s payoff might actually work well.
Absolutely. It would be a nice, but subtle, bit of color. Not every colored shadow has to super-vivid or pigmented.
Yeah, liked that best as well. I could/would use this, but would be better off not getting it. think my new fallback position is to wait for an SG dupe. It’ll happen. And it’ll be better than Oscura, in all likelihood.
The cover art is so darn creepy though!
I’m glad this is pretty good (sad about Osucra, though) but nice as it is, I probably won’t get it. It’s not enough to push me off my “low buy ledge”. Of course, all of that could change when I see this “in the flesh”
It’s a shame about Oscura but I’m excited about the palette overall, especially the “melted metallic kind of finish” shades that you mentioned. I ordered this palette and one of the Audacious lipsticks the day they launched and I just tracked the package and it says delivered! Can’t wait to play. 🙂
It is a lovely, subtle and sophisticated number from NARS, but true to form there is one shade that is sub par – and it’s a shame because it is a beautiful blue. Lovely eye look too Christine.
And I think the cover art is a tad creepy as well.
To me, these colors look like 1/2 the Viseart Paris Nudes palette.
Same here… I was like… “Where have I seen these colors before? Why are they so familiar?”
I’m not familiar w the artist’s work, but I’m inspired to look him up. Besides, there’s something super cute about a man with a name like Connor Tingsley having a collection with entirely Spanish names. Pretty palette, and I think of all the shades Niebla is the loveliest.
I’m a sucker for those types of “melty” looking metallic e/s’s normally, but with Oscura not being at least a B grade….it’s far less certain to be coming home with me. Like KJH said, I’ll wait for SG. Because, yeah, you know that will be way nicer.
