NARS Spring 2018 Lip Covers Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Embrasse Moi
NARS Embrasse Moi Lip Cover ($28.00 for 0.22 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy orange with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightweight, smooth consistency that was fluid enough to disperse easily across the lips but did not feel watery or overly emollient, though it seemed to be slightly oilier compared to other shades. The color went on evenly, but there was a touch of product that sat in my deeper lip lines. It wore well for four hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.

Formula Overview
$28.00/0.22 oz. - $127.27 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have “rich and lustrous” color with shine. They are a liquid lipstick, but they are not the type that dry down to a fully flat, transfer-free finish. They stay emollient and can slide around, and they transfer a lot–but they are also pretty pigmented so despite color being left on coffee cups and the like, a lot of hangs around. They’re comfortable to wear, lightly hydrating, but they wear no longer than four to five hours. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula. I didn’t have issues with the color feathering or bleeding on me, but the formula definitely has the slip that may make it a possibility for those who tend to experience that with their lip products!

Under Arrest
NARS Under Arrest Lip Cover ($28.00 for 0.22 oz.) is a muted, medium orange-brown with strong, orange undertones and a cream finish with a light shine. It was richly pigmented and delivered smooth, even color coverage in a single stroke. The texture was lightweight but substantial enough to glide easily across the lips without getting into my lip lines. The finish seemed to give the illusion of smoother lips after applied. On me, it stayed on well for five and a half hours and was somewhat moisturizing over time.

Hell Gate
NARS Hell Gate Lip Cover ($28.00 for 0.22 oz.) is a deep, rich red with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish with a light shine. The consistency was smooth and fluid without being too thick or too watery, which meant I could spread the color out nicely but still had full coverage color payoff in a single layer. The shine wore away after a few hours but the color remained firmly in place. It lasted well for six hours and broke down more noticeably after a meal. The formula was lightly hydrating over time.

Summer Fire
NARS Summer Fire Lip Cover ($28.00 for 0.22 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with warm undertones and a sprinkling of fine shimmer. It had good color coverage in a single layer, though it wasn’t opaque. The liquid lipstick was fluid and easy to apply across the lips, and the consistency was dense enough that it did not well into my lip lines. This shade wore well for five hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.

Hell is right. Massively overduped on that one. I can refrain….I hope.
Summer Fire for the win! In my playbook, anyhow. Funny thing is how many of its dupes are sitting on my WL, but not owned. This will be one of the few lip products I will buy this year.
TBH, all 4 shades appear to be fantastic! I’d have been all over Hell Gate if not for my very recent purchase of UD Rock Steady. Embrasse Moi if I didn’t have other light shimmery shades to work through.
Hell Gate looks awfully nice.
I like the look of Summer Fire!
I have SO many of the dupes for Hell Gate, but I’m still tempted! Will probably do the pink one–I have no dupes for that one at all and it’s gorgeous!
Hell’s Gate is absolutely stunningly beautiful!
I have surprised myself and really love the look of Embrasse Moi. I don’t generally go for shades that I know are going to be lighter than my natural lip color but this is one I might have to try. Looks like a lovely spring peach color and since it isn’t something I normally go for, I don’t have any of the dupes.
I like Summer Fire & the blush you’re wearing looks great with it, very soft & happy! 🙂
Hi Christine! What are these Lip Covers? Do they feel like Velvet Lip Glides?
BTW, it’s my first comment in your blog, and you’re my absolutely most favourite beauty blogger. I’ve been reading you since my late teenage years, and, really, you’re the best! You’re non-biased, critical to bad products and so friendly with your readers!
Sorry for being that emotional, I just thought that I could start with a small drop of love =D
P.S. Guys, sorry if I made any mistakes, English is not my native language and I don’t live in an english-speaking community.
Hey Svetlana!
Happy first comment! 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to write me! The Lip Covers are a liquid lipstick but don’t dry down–if you click “Formula Overview,” there’s a more detailed summary on the formula overall!–so they aren’t quite like the Velvet Lip Glides, which definitely feel glossier and more gel-like on the lips, and the Lip Covers are creamier!
Hell Gate is so beautiful on you! Always love seeing your seal of approval on products 🙂
Hell Gate for now and Summer Fire for spring – love it!
I have rock steady and sandals so I really don’t need hell gate. Summer Fire is really nice but I’d have to swatch it.
