Scandal is described as a “sheer crushed cherry.” It’s a warm-toned, orange-red with a glossy finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff, while the color applied evenly for the most part, it did settle into lip lines. The color lasted for four and a half hours. NARS Eternal Red (P, $26.00) is more orange. MAC Berry Bold (LE, $20.00) is very similar in color, less glossy. Shiseido Lust (RD305) (P, $25.00) is redder, brighter, more opaque. Maybelline Intoxicating Spice (070) (P, $8.99) is more muted. NARS Hollywoodlawn (LE, $26.00) is more opaque, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Misbehave is described as a “sheer cherry red with gold shimmer.” It’s a warm-toned, orange-red with red and gold shimmer. It’s pretty much Scandal with shimmer. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which seemed to apply better than Scandal, as the settling into lip lines was subtler and less noticeable. This shade wore well for four and a half hours as well. NARS Eternal Red (P, $26.00) is more orange, less shimmery. MAC Berry Bold (LE, $20.00) is less glossy, less shimmery. Shiseido Lust (RD305) (P, $25.00) is more opaque, less shimmery. MAC Wake Up! (P, $22.00) is slightly less warm-toned. Maybelline Intoxicating Spice (070) (P, $8.99) is more muted, less shimmery. NARS Hollywoodlawn (LE, $26.00) is darker, more opaque. Chanel Daydream (P, $29.50) is darker, more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Quito is described as a “bright strawberry pink.” It’s a cool-toned, medium-dark pink with a creamy, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but it applied unevenly, and there was some color that settled lightly into lip lines. It wore well for five hours, though. Chanel Tocade (182) (P, $29.50) is very similar. MAC Fashion Perk (P, $22.00) is more muted. Milani Ravish Raspberry (06) (P, $5.49) is cooler-toned. NARS Penny Arcade (LE, $26.00) is very similar. MAC Colour Saturation (LE, $20.00) is slightly cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Rose Gitane is described as a “sheer sangria.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned red with orange undertones and very subtle shimmer. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage, which applied evenly with a little settling into lip lines, but it wasn’t too noticeable from a normal viewing distance. This shade lasted for four and a half hours on me. It’s just barely darker and less warm-toned compared to both Scandal and Misbehave, but they’re all quite similar in the base color. MAC Wake Up! (P, $22.00) is sheerer. Revlon Fatal Apple (P, $7.99) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Sixties Fan is described as a “pomegranate.” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned berry with a glossy shine. It had semi-sheer color payoff, but it was prone to settling into lip lines and didn’t apply as evenly as one would like. The color wore well for just over four hours. It is very similar to Quito–it’s just a smidgen darker and more muted. Chanel Tocade (182) (P, $29.50) is a little lighter. MAC Fashion Perk (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, more muted. NARS Penny Arcade (LE, $26.00) is more opaque. MAC Colour Saturation (LE, $20.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NARS Lipgloss ($26.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) has been reformulated, and the new formulation will launch on April 15th with 30 permanent shades–seven are new and permanent, 23 are shades that were available in the previous formula. NARS says the new formula is supposed to have “longer, more comfortable wear,” while being hydrating and smoothing with a “silky texture.” The texture is thin, somewhat tacky (the more shimmery shades seemed slightly tackier than the creamier ones), unscented (and no signs of a plastic, waxy, or crayon-like scent), with two to five hours of wear time, and is moderately hydrating. The formula is thinner and less sticky (5 or 6, compared to an 8 on the original formula, on a 10-point scale), and I found it more comfortable to wear overall. Note, the reformulated glosses are more expensive and contain less product.

These are pretty – but the particular level of semi-sheerness leaves them looking a lot more similar to each other on the lips than they do in the tube! I expected them to sort of assert more individual character than they end up doing.

This is why I don’t get the lip gloss thing when they never do look at opaque as what’s in the bottle :/ it’s disappointing and for the price points they are in, =_= like..just wear lipstick lol idk. Not the original OP ~

Thank you again Christine for working your way thru all these lip glosses ; whilst there are some very pretty ones (a lot of them look very similar to each other ( well they do to me any how!) I’ve gotta say that unless its got an ‘A’ rating I’m gonna have to give them a miss. Am noticing over the past few days of you doing these Nars lip glosses not an awful lot of them have had A’s.

Some of it had to do with how they were described (there were several described as “sheer” and were very much *not* sheer… not a bad thing, but it’s not as described, which IS a bad thing – and vice versa, where there was no “sheer” in the description and then something quite sheer!). I felt like a couple of shades should have been rated higher, but the pesky description forced them lower. The formula is hydrating, fairly comfortable to wear, and wears about an average length of time. It’s a good gloss formula, but it’s not ground-breaking and there are better ones out there!

Severely disappointed with all of them really, maybe save for Dolce Vita. They look like they’d be so pigmented in the tube and there is barely anything there! They all look the same. Not to mention they cut the amount you get AND they’re more expensive! Double whammy by NARS = won’t be buying any.

I’ve already picked up Sixties Fan and I really love the color, I think it’s perfect for those girls who love berry lips but don’t want to leave it behind in Fall. I think the next one I pick up may be either Scandal or Quito. Or I may not make myself choose. Who knows?
