NARS Palais Royal Satin Lip Pencil Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS Palais Royal Satin Lip Pencil
NARS Palais Royal Satin Lip Pencil ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as “sangria.” It’s a dark, berry-red with a satin finish and slight cool undertones. Rimmel #107 is slightly less cool-toned. Chanel L’Impatiente is darker, more berry-hued. Guerlain Orgueil is similar but shimmery. MAC What Joy is a touch darker. Giorgio Armani #408 is a town redder (less berry).
Of all the shades, this was my least favorite. It was the least pigmented, as there was definite translucency to the overall color (it looked like an intense lip stain), but the color settled and migrated into lip lines within two hours of wear. Then, the settling continued to worsen for the next three hours of wear. It lasted with some color for as long as five hours, and then there was residual staining that remained for at least another hour. The settling was really noticeable and looked crumbly between the lines (so if you smiled). The consistency felt like the other pencils–soft, lightly creamy–and it didn’t tug or pull on the lips. It was neither drying nor hydrating while I wore it.

Too bad the quality of this one is slightly disappointing, it looked like an interesting colour and I truly have a soft spot for wine colours.
nice color, meh to the rest of its features
These look amazing! All the colours are so strong and beautiful.
This is the one I bought (prior to reading any reviews at all about these pencils). I’m actually glad to hear it’s your least favorite – I gave it a good (but not great) review myself, and I had been wondering why you loved the pencils SO much while I didn’t have the same fantastic experience.
Of course, experiences may vary by person, but this makes me think it may be worth trying one of the pencils you rated A+ — I really wanted to love these pencils!
Yeah I think this might be my least favorite shade out of the bunch as well. Though I still think they are all pretty fab.
Hi, Christine. Is this similar to Guet_Apens and/or Gigolo?
More like Guet Apens, less like Gigolo – Gigolo is more berry.
This is my favorite color of the lip pencils, so I’m disappointed its quality is lower.
That’s such a pretty look on you!!!
This is a beautiful color. I might try it, the slightly lesser pigmentation doesn’t really bother me and I don’t have a problem with things settling into lines so I may have to add it to my wish list! 😀
It’s sort of funny how you say this is your least favorite color of them all, but it looks SO GORGEOUS on you!
The quality/wear is the issue, less so than the color!
Lovely color. It’s really too bad it doesn’t last well 🙁
I just got Luxembourg to review since it looked so gorgeous on you, and I looooooved Palais Royal in store. I had to really force myself not to buy it! It’s a bummer that it didn’t work for you. To me, it seemed very opaque, but I didn’t get a chance to test wear time, obviously.
I love the color! It looks great on me and is very long lasting initially I didn’t like it because I had on more shimmery eye makeup. I toned down all of my makeup and just let my lip color stand out. I get lots of compliments!
Which of the colours in the satin range would you recommend?
I haven’t had a chance to try this range yet…I love the velvet matte lip pencils…how does this range compare?
Most of them are pretty good! They are more comfortable/easier to wear than the mattes.
