Add New Luster to Your Blush Routine

NARS Luster Blush ($28.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a tangerine orange with golden orange sheen. MAC Solar Ray is lighter. MAC Center of the Universe is similar but has less of a golden sheen. MAC Paradise has more red in it.

The texture feels soft like silk, and it’s one of the denser, creamier blushes I’ve come by from NARS (and this seems consistent with their eyeshadows–the more shimmery ones tend to have the same buttery texture).  The color payoff can be sheer if you like, but it can be built up to more true-to-pan color, which makes it something that both paler and deeper complexions can use.  The sheen is noticeable but is just that, a sheen, rather than heavily shimmered.  It did not emphasize my pores or natural imperfections on my skin.  Luster lasted just over seven hours on my skin before I saw noticeable fading.

I absolutely adore this blush. I’ve had it for about 6 weeks and usually find some way to work it into my makeup routine. I have a very dark skin tone so this blush gives me more of a glow that I can’t get enough of.

At 32, this is the first blush I’ve ever hit the pan on.

A NARS artist used it on me with a bold red lip, and I’ve been sold ever since. It’s my daily go-to and with my skin tone (medium? tan? beige?) it gives the ideal, subtle glow.

Tried it on my blush-averse, pink-tinged bff for a wedding this weekend and the look of panic in her eyes vanished completely as it settled in.

Can’t recommend it enough!

Really? :S I just swatched Margin and Luster side by side on my arm (about NW20 skintone), and Margin looks a little bit lighter, cleaner, more pink, more frosty. Luster is darker and orangy-brown compared. I guess coloring makes a big difference with these kind of shades.

Wow, what a lovely new color! I wonder if this will be a bit like Taj Mahal for us lighter-skinned folk who can’t pull off an orange that bright and intense? What do you think, Christine? I’ve lusted after Taj Mahal for a while but every time I swatch it, it makes me look ridiculous. Is this more like Taj Mahal’s tamer cousin?

I often forget about this blush and then, when I put it on, it’s like “Why don’t I wear this more often?” On my NC 25-30 olive skin, it almost gives a subtle highlighter effect unless I REALLY build it up. (And, thankfully, it doesn’t show up as orange on me.) I like that ease of use but it’s probably why I sometimes forget about Luster. If I just use 2 brush strokes, the sheen isn’t obvious at all, even when I use a full blush brush as opposed to a stippling brush, so it kinda just gives me a natural glow. Like, “my skin but better.” The first time I wore it, my sister asked me what foundation I was using because my skin looked really good. LOL.

Luster was my third NARS blush. I had to get this one after I saw MakeupByRenRen wear it in a YT video. I actually passed on it in store because I thought it looked kinda blah/nothing special; I just didn’t think it looked like something that would be flattering on me. I came across MBRR’s vid a few weeks after I looked at it in store; the moment her vid started, I needed to know what blush she was wearing because it just looked so warm and glowy. This is definitely a top favorite blush for me – I can’t get enough of the sheen! It’s interesting how orange your swatch of this looks because I never think it looks this orange when I swatch or wear it, lol. I think this shade is pretty dimensional because I can see peach/tangerine, golden/bronze/brown/burnt, and the tiniest hint of pink/red in certain lights. It’s a very autumnal shade to me. LOVE this blush – It’s definitely one of NARS’ better blushes.

I got this in the Joie de Vivre palette from Nordstrom’s – I love it, and I can’t usually wear oranges but this looks good on me, somehow. Well, it did when I swatched it but I haven’t tried to wear it out yet! On me I feel like it pulls a bit more brown, less orange.

I’m much lighter, but I think it would show up on you. The girl who suggested this to me in store was the shade Tahoe in NARS Sheer Glow. Also, MakeupByRenRen on YT is somewhere between NC40-45, and it shows up on her as this very subtle, glowy, warmth. Her video was what got me to go out and get it.

Here’s the YT vid with her wearing it (I hope it’s ok to post links to YT):

Oh my, this is lovely. I alway feel more attracted by pink blushes however I find that orange-y blushes suit me better. I love how it looks on you but I would never look at it twice if I saw it on display.

I love this blush, its one I have had my eye on for a while now I think I just may have to take the plunge and get it because it looks stunning on you Christine 🙂

Omg….I have this color from the nordstrom anniversary pallatte and never thought of putting it on, until I read your review. Christine, you are a genious. I’ve been struggling to find a blush that doesn’t bring out the red in my skin. I’m a nw30 with VERY red skin. When I saw this color in the pallatte it looked blah but at your suggestion that it would work well with not bringing out the red in skin I gave it a try. Can’t believe it’s been sitting here for 2 months and I never tried it. My new favorite blush!!!!!

Hi! I don’t own any NARS blushes, but I’m planning on buying myself Albatross+another blush for my birthday soon. I’ve been looking at Luster, Orgasm, or Sin… I have almost the exact same skintone as you, maybe a touch darker, and I’m buying the blush as an everyday kind of thing for school. What would you suggest? Btw you are soooo pretty! And I’m obsessed with temptalia. I seriously don’t buy like, anything without checking out your review on here first. Thanks! 🙂
