NARS Loaded Lip Lacquer Review & Swatches
Foxy
NARS Foxy Loaded Lip Lacquer ($26.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark brown with strong, warm orange undertones and a cream finish. It had a smooth, almost cream-like texture but it had a flexible, almost vinyl-like feel to it at times; no tackiness or heaviness at all, though. It had good color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly across my lips with only a smidgen of product in my deeper lip lines (but not enough to be noticeable in person). The gloss lasted nicely for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$26.00/0.18 oz. - $144.44 Per Ounce
The formula was supposed to "offer the shine of a gloss, the comfort of a balm and the impact of a lipstick" that also boasts "deep, silky" hydration. What was interesting about the formula was the texture; it felt more flexible, clingy--not in a bad way--and almost vinyl-like, as it was shiny but not traditionally glossy. It didn't look as thick applied as juicier gloss might, but it did have shine.
The shades had more semi-opaque to nearly-opaque coverage but one layer was the easiest to wear as a second layer often made the overall application worse. They applied fairly evenly but a few sank into my deeper lip lines just a bit. The wear ranged from four to five hours, while the formula felt hydrating over time. The gloss had a subtle, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Freestyle
NARS Freestyle Loaded Lip Lacquer ($26.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a deeper, coppery brown with warm, red undertones and a cream finish. It had a shiny finish that wasn’t as traditionally glossy–perhaps not as “thick” in a sense–compared to most glosses. The consistency was smooth, lightweight, and non-sticky, but it felt like it clung to my lips slightly, which gave it better hold (but wasn’t uncomfortable).
It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied fairly evenly but had a few visible streaks when I pressed my lips together along with faint product in deeper lip lines close-up. The color stayed on well for five hours and was moisturizing over time.

Playin' Around
NARS Playin’ Around Loaded Lip Lacquer ($26.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a medium peach with moderate, warm undertones and a shiny, cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, but it wasn’t the type of formula that I’d apply a second layer of as it had enough thickness in one layer that a second layer just proved to worsen the application. For as light as the color was, it applied more evenly than anticipated but could have applied more evenly. The gloss was prone to settling into my deeper lip lines, which worsened over the four hours it wore for but was moisturizing while worn.

Young Hearts
NARS Young Hearts Loaded Lip Lacquer ($26.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a muted, deep peach with warm undertones and a shiny, cream finish. The texture felt smooth, lightweight, and non-sticky with a creamy, almost vinyl-like look and feel to it, as it wasn’t heavy but it wasn’t as gloss-like on as a traditional lipgloss would have been. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, though it wasn’t quite opaque, but a second layer would feel heavy and be more prone to streaking. There was a smidgen of product that sank into my deeper lip lines but didn’t seem noticeable in person. It lasted well for four and a half hours and felt hydrating while worn.

While quite light, I’m enamored with Young Hearts! I would have to line my lips with a somewhat darker liner in order to pull it off, but it really looks so worth it. Besides, I almost ALWAYS wear lip liner due to uneven lip border pigmentation.
It sounds like this is a slightly stickier version of their (magnificent) Velvet Lip Glide, is that right?
Not sticky but clingier? Like it’s more substantial and filmy, but it’s really smooth and comfortable to wear – but less slip and slide compared to the Velvet Lip Glides.
Ooh, sounds promising! I love the Velvet Lip Glides but it’s true that they can be quite slippy and transferrable!
I love the Freestyle shade, a perfect russet shade.
Freestyle is so pretty on you and I really like it outright. I do fear it maybe too dark for me though.
