NARS Laser Cut Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS Laser Cut Palette
NARS Laser Cut Palette ($59.00 for 0.62 oz.) includes three eyeshadows, one lipgloss, one blush, and one bronzing powder. The eyeshadows are marked as “Hardwired Eyeshadow” on the back of the palette, though I couldn’t tell you how they really differ from the permanent formula, other than it seems like a denser, less thin formula. The palette leaves something to be desired — I don’t think it’s NARS at its best–it’s just kind of in the middle.
Shade I is described as a “perfect neutral vanilla.” It’s a light beige with a matte finish and neutral undertones. It had fairly good color payoff, though the texture was very powdery. See comparison swatches
/ view dupes.
Shade II is described as a “shimmering cafe au lait.” It’s a golden brown with a sparkling, metallic finish. It had nice pigmentation, though the texture was a smidgen crumbly and the sparkle did fall out during wear (as well as application), while the color itself stayed on well for eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Shade III is described as a “matte army green.” It’s a medium-dark, olive green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was really soft but incredibly powdery to the point where most of it dusted away and only some managed to stay on the skin. What did adhere to the skin stayed on for seven hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Dolce Vita is described as a “sheer dusty rose.” It’s a muted, medium-dark pink-plum with subtle warm undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It’s not sheer at all, and this version included in the set matches the original formulation, but it feels more like the new formula (which is a lot cooler and pinker in color). It lasted for four and a half hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Day Dream is described as a “flirty sheer peach.” It’s a pink-peach with warm udnertones and a satin finish. It’s warmer and less pink compared to the individual version that was released last year. It is sheer as described (though “sheer” was not part of the description when it originally launched), with a thinner, slightly dry, texture, but it wasn’t stiff. My standalone version is more pigmented. It lasted for seven hours applied. See comparison swatches
/ view dupes.
Laguna is described as a “diffused brown powder with golden shimmer.” It’s a meidum-dark brown with warm, yellow undertones and a golden shimmer-sheen finish. a href=”https://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery?sg=175779,171535,168835,165621,142013,141615,111363,108999,108998″>See comparison swatches of dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

I guess it would be nice to have a couple of all-in-one palettes like this for travel, but I’m not super excited about anything in this one.
Just somewhere in the middle – not the worst, not great.
This is such a perfect little amount for me and I like the colors but I don’t need the blush/bronzer part. ๐ Gloss is beautiful, you look stunning. Hoping deplorable gets the glosses soon for November. This one is there of course, I mean the 2 good holiday ones ๐ Tgsnks for the review! I rush it was without the bronzer thing.. So close! ๐
My pleasure, Lotus! ๐
No need for Laguna in ALL the palettes this holiday! Geez!
HAHA!!!
I LOVE this packaging – talk about having all you need in one small package. I have a MAC blush trio from Tartan Tales that was similar in design but housed only blushes. I could wish that this blush were a bit more pink but it still looks wearable for me. Big shock (ha!) – I love the eyeshadows but I do wish they had better performance. Still, this is very appealing to me!
If you use primer and don’t mind some powdery fall out in the beginning, you might like it anyway ๐
There’s that Dolce Vita gloss again! <3 It seems to follow me wherever I go (or look :-)). It's a sign…
It is! ๐
Thanks so much for the review! Sad, because this one looked like the perfect travel palette. Looks like I have more money to spend on MUFE Artist Shadows!
No prob, Misha!!
It looks like a great travel kit, only if the quality could have stepped up a little I would totally pick this up. I don’t know what it is with Nars these past couple years, everything (maybe except some lip products) has just been mediocore at best…such a shame. Was one of my favorite brand.
That’s so sad, Dany! ๐ Here’s hoping that NARS does better for you in 2015!
This is actually appealing to me way more than it should! I’m loving the green shade and the Dolce Vita lipgloss!
Ooh, how fun! ๐
May I please ask what the crucial differences are in the texture of NARS gloss versus larger than life gloss, still Nars, ๐ Thank you! ๐
Larger Than Life is heavier, a little tackier, and the applicator is different.
Way to shatter my dreams, Christine -.-. I had three things I was really wanting from this year’s holiday collection: the Roman Holiday set, the Almeria blush, and this to-go palette. After seeing your reviews for the Roman set and the Almeria blush, this was my last hope at getting something from this collection. Then this review happened. Why ya gotta do a brother like that, Christine??
But really, thank you for the always honest reviews. I don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t come to your site and make sure a product is legit before committing big bucks for it. I may end up getting the lip pencil set; that’s what I did last year and it worked out perfectly. Seriously, keep up the good work you beautiful creature!
I seriously feel like THE GRINCH this season, because there are few things that are impressive. I’m not going to soften at all, but I’m bumming myself out, too, LOL!
I do like the Lip Pencil set, and if you like the formula, I think you’ll like it, too. It is a good value, and performs well (and in-line with the permanent range).
Thank you so much for your trust <3
Not as exciting as I had hoped, but not a bad travel palette. A skip for me, though.
More room on the wish list for something else ๐
I love travel palettes like that. It’s a shame, at NARS prices, that it’s not NARS “at its best”
Agreed!
Hello ๐ Laguna is TIRED. I agree! As for the larger than life glosses, all I understood was the applicator and thicker consistency.. Please, may I further inquire as to the feel of gloss on the lips? Results? Long term? Gelly like, more moisturizing, healthy looking? .D Thank you!
I don’t find them to look that different, honestly. Larger Than Life might have a little more shine, since it is a little thicker. I don’t wear anything long enough (as in for weeks) so I’m not sure if one has better long-term results ๐
Hello Christine! Thanks for helping out! I don’t wear them for weeks either but definitely want a more hydrating healthy feel that looks really plump and juicy, blurred like in the photos of the first two of three nars holiday glosses and the way Rouge on Parade (is that the name? The guerlain red gloss for holiday) .. The way they make your lips look… That’s my main concern. I need them to penetrate and moisturize, feel good. Tack doesn’t bother me if its accomplished, I just don’t want to spend without be certain. Do you perhaps have pictures of you reviewing any larger than life that I could please compare how it looks? I so totally appreciate it, I know you’re busy! ๐ But you’re not a grinch. All days ARE the holidays with your blog! We are all happy year round! Buying a bit less is actually a good thing! I prefer your honesty or I’d be gone. *Hugs* ๐
Aww, thank you always, Lotus ๐ You are too kind!

That dolce vita gloss… *swoon*
Love a good plum gloss!
I like the look of the blush and the gloss the best.
The blush is a pretty color!
The packaging of this edition is so nice, I really like it. I like the idea of this palette, but I wasn’t impressed by the eyeshadows it contained, even prior to the review, just not what I feel like at the moment, I guess. And then there’s Laguna, I don’t own it, but it’s in everything it seems.
I really like the gloss, I must say. Looks lovely on you.
Yep, Laguna is in every palette that it could be in this year ๐
Nice palette, and all the shades play well together-and would work for many-, however, I can’t justify buying it… I can dupe this from my NARS stash alone, LOL!
For anyone interested in just the green shade, NARS Fuji comes pretty darn close, only a bit “greener”, and more intense/pigmented.
Glad you’re able to dupe this with your stash, Amy!
Francois Nars will simply not be happy until every single person in the world has a lifetime supply of Laguna.
LOL!
The only thing I can think about is this…. http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=184749Meme.jpg
Thanks for the laugh. ๐
A lot of my favorite lines have been putting out disappointing holiday collections. Now NARS joins the list. This is not screaming to me “Take me home”. So far Guerlain has received a nice chunk of my wallet (Meteorites, palette w/eyeshadow & blush and lipstick). I’m now eyeing items instead from the permanent line-up instead and foregoing pursuing anymore LE holiday collections. Thank you so much Christine for being so detailed with your reviews.
You and I are on the same wavelength! I’ve been wanting to get through the holiday sets just so I can find some permanent things to enjoy, LOL!
Great shades, and quality seems to be on point, but I wouldn’t get this beause of the price! Seems so similar to a Sephora set (Divergent palette) that was released some time ago, but that was only a fraction of the price!
It is a pricey palette for sure!
if that last shade wasn’t a green, i’d actually kind of like this :O
What shade would you like instead?
Not really feeling it… too much warmth.
Definitely a trend in holiday palettes it seems!
Bummer, this would’ve been a great travel palette to touch up the face during the day or for nights out. Beats hauling a purse full of makeup. I hope NARS brings the palette back, but with better quality shadows. Maybe have 1 cool-toned and 1 warm-toned palette? I’m sure it would sell out in a flash. Hello NARS, do you hear me?
The lipgloss is gorgeous. I might just have to get that. The palette is a pass for me.
Too bad the performance of Shades II and III is not good…I really liked this set otherwise, especially Dolce Vita lipgloss! Iยดm probably the only makeup junkie who does not own Laguna in any form, so that would actually be new in my collection. But considering Nars’ tendency to include it in every palette, I guess I’d rather wait for something more consistent!
I like the *idea* of this palette, but the execution isn’t thrilling me. The most interesting thing is that greenish eyeshadow – it’s *such* a shame it isn’t more of a standout! Obviously, the Laguna is also a ‘meh’ for me, but that’s not really news ๐ The gloss is pretty (despite the vague liplines-that-probably-only-bother-me, LOL!), but I’m probably just trying to find reasons to like it more because it has ‘Laser’ in the name.
Fun fact: did you know ‘laser’ is actually an acronym? ๐
I didn’t know that, lol!
