NARS Indes Galantes Eyeshadow Duo
NARS Indes Galantes Eyeshadow Duo ($35.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a dark, smoky duo of shades featuring a shimmery gray and matte burgundy. I wasn’t a fan of either shades, as they were both harder to apply and blend out. It is an interesting combo of shades, though, so there is that!
Indes Galantes (Left) is a dark gray with neutral-to-warm undertones and a frosted finish. The consistency was looser and a bit drier, so the shimmer separated more from the base color and felt gritty to a degree. It had decent pigmentation, though not fully opaque, and it blended out fairly well but needed extra effort around the edges. The eyeshadow started to fade after seven and a half hours of wear. MAC Diesel (LE, $17.00)(100% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Starry Night #3 (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes #18 (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Double Feature #2 #2 (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). KVD Beauty Santeria (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). NARS Bad Behaviour (LE, $24.00) is cooler (95% similar). Smashbox Obsidian (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Lapisluxe #3 (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tarina Tarantino Silver Shoes (DC, ) is cooler (95% similar). Viseart Diane (PiP, ) is warmer (90% similar). BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2 #20 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Deep Cravings (LE, $17.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Indes Galantes (Right) is a muted, dark burgundy with warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer, somewhat buildable coverage. The texture was soft, finely-milled, but dusty and thin, which made it harder to apply on bare skin as it would sheer out and become patchy. Even over a primer, it was finicky and tended to look uneven. It started to fade after eight hours of wear. MAC Hell in Heels (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Dior Riviera #5 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (95% similar). Tarte Drama (PiP, ) is darker, cooler (95% similar). KVD Beauty Velvet (LE, ) is darker, more muted (95% similar). MAC Deep Damson (DC, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Ride My Slay (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery, less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Double Tap (LE, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). Melt Cosmetics Type A (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). Laura Mercier Kir Royal (PiP, $22.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Huda Beauty Spicy (PiP, ) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Melt Cosmetics Mind Games (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Lethal Cosmetics Trespass (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Dior Romantic Voyage #5 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Viseart Baie (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). LORAC Eggplant (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Stained Glass (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Anastasia Credit (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Anastasia All Star (DC, $12.00) is brighter (85% similar). Aww, that plum shade looked so pretty! Too bad the intensity is so poor.
Exactly! 🙁
too bad, that is a hellanice red. The KVD dupe is more muted.
This duo was just too fussy!
For $35, this needs to score an A or better. I have better dupes for both, including Velvet in KVD MetalMatte, which is very smooth and pigmented for me
Yeah! Duos/singles can get pricey, so they better be good!
Way overpriced for such poor performance!
It is an interesting combo, so it was inspiring, at least!
I was tempted by this because I always love shimmery gray eyeshadows. But I really don’t need more of them, even though I always want them, so my wallet has in this case been rescued by sub-par quality! I was intrigued by the burgundy shade, even though I wouldn’t wear it very often… but a matte that patchy I’ll just end up never using.
Who has time to blend for 20 minutes for a patchy matte?!
lol! no one! 20 minutes???! That’s bad!
This duo reminds me of Eurydice, like a hipper, more sophisticated sister.
Like most NARS duos, this one is apparently finicky, but if previous experience holds true, it should ease up after a few uses. Both duos will be finding their way home to me.
Hope it works for you, Amy!
Too bad, these colors would make a killer smokey eye. I have my pick of charcoal shadows, but I might need to buy the dupe MAC I’m Into It because all my burgundies are much more muted.
They do work well together!
I wanted it to be awesome 🙁 Sometimes I’m glad when product I want suck but this is not one of those times.
Awww! 🙁
Just NOPE. Sad too, because this would have been a very cool duo if the quality was there. Well, there is Velvet in KVD MMP, plus a smokey, near black metallic (or shimmer?) in UD Full Spectrum, or Granite in Moondust.
Plenty of options there 😉
That’s really too bad that this plum performs so poorly 🙁
I know 🙁
Too bad about the quality, but the color combo is inspiring! I wish the burgundy was a little less muddy and more saturated though! I’d love to see eye looks using this duo (or similar shades.) I can see this creating a nice dramatic, moody eye look especially paired with a dramatic cat eye or smudged kajal liner.
I frequently find with NARS duos that the color combinations really inspire me, but the quality isn’t there for a lot of them (at least not for the duos I’ve bought.)
I’m with you, Ae – some are great, but maybe of them are sheerer or thinner. I have the same trouble with Dior quints! NARS and Dior both can come up with more inspirational combos, though 😉
I wish this had done well, it looks really nice and interesting. Ah well… at least there’s dupes!
Me too! 🙁
I didn’t think this looked so good when I saw the swatches. It’s a shame because the shades were pretty and they complimented each other so well.
I know! I wish it was better.
Ugh so pretty too. Unfortunately I’ve never had luck with Nars shadow duos!
A few of the more shimmery ones work better for me than this one, but I have come across some duds!
I’m still hopeful I can make it work. The color combo is beautiful; it’s unfortunate that a long-standing brand like Nars doesn’t have the formula right after all these years. Mine will be in this week sometime, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Uber fair skin helps make the pigmentation work better than trying to build it up on more pigmented skin. A girl can hope anyway!
Let me know if it works better for you, Lea! 🙂
So sad the texture is lacking, I love the color combination for fall/winter. Unfortunately Nars eyeshadows can be hit or miss in my experience, I’m crossing my fingers for the other duo, the one I’m really tempted to get!
Exactly the same experience I have, Lulle — especially the mattes!
To me, this just seems such an odd pairing of colours, even if the quality had been better. I guess even with a duo, I like to have something lighter and “highlighter-ish” – Nars Kaui comes to mind, or some of the Bare Minerals Ready duos.
I can see that – it is a very dark eye if you just use the duo. I was originally planning to wear the duo(s) when I did swatches for all the NARS set but worried it was going to be too dark.
So sorry about this; love when you save me. Looks like the velvet lips, so far and not much else from ms moon collection. tg. Impudique looks great on you; on me, not so much.
Thank you, KJH!
I had hoped this would turn out to work well on the lids, as I like the combo so much. It’s very inspiering, though. I’m not sure I’d think of the combo myself. I don’t have a real dupd for the grey, but I have a lot of greys to play with. I have, and love Deep Damson, and that is quite high up in the dupe list.
I think I have my inspiration for the makeup of the day now.
I agree- the shades are pretty and make for an interesting combo! I expected a bit better of a performance at that price, though.
Too bad about it, the colors look so pretty in the pan! =) They’re definitely colors I’d gravitate toward, so I’m glad I read this first…
Very disappointing. Off the wish list.
For me the plum worked amazing. A little concealer to even out my skintone and boom! Easy to blend and opaque. I loved using this to smoke out the grey. I recommend you try out for yourselves and see if it works for you. Perhaps a different Base or technique would work for you x
Thank you for the review – wanted to buy the duo today, glad I saw your review first. I hate bad matte eyeshadows! 🙁
My pleasure, Susi!
