NARS Anita Audacious Lipstick
This post features five of the more beige-hued shades of the NARS Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) formula.
NARS Anita Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as an “antique rose.” It’s a muted, medium-dark pink with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had fully opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly, while the color lasted for four and a half hours and was neither hydrating nor drying. NARS Vanessa (P, $32.00) is lighter, cooler-toned. MAC Dream Daze (LE, $22.00) is lighter. Givenchy Nude Guipure (106) (P, $36.00) is brighter. Givenchy Rose d’Exception (206) (LE, $36.00) is pinker. NARS Sex Machine (P, $25.00) is sheerer, lighter. Giorgio Armani Blush (500) (P, $32.00) is glossier. Burberry Peony Rose (302) (P, $30.00) is more matte, warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Jane Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “terracotta rose.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly. This shade wore well for five hours on me. It was neither drying nor hydrating over time. Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) (P, $7.49) is browner. Givenchy Rouge d’Exception (308) (LE, $36.00) is darker, brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Brigitte Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “nude rose.” It’s a brightened, light-medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had full color coverage in one pass, and the color glided on easily and evenly. On me, the color lasted for four and a half hours, and it was lightly hydrating. MAC Modern Wow! (LE, $16.00) is warmer. Sisley Paris Petal (L13) (P, $55.00) is pinker, more shimmery. Estee Lauder Dynamic (P, $30.00) is darker. YSL Peach Passion (13) (P, $34.00) is lighter, less pink. MAC Betty Bright (LE, $16.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Barbara Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “tan rose.” It’s a muted, peachy-beige with a hint of pink. It had rich pigmentation that covered the lips entirely, and it was smooth and even when it applied. The color wore well for four and a half hours on me and was neither hydrating nor drying. NARS Raquel (P, $32.00) is lighter. MAC Wear with Flare (LE, $22.00) is lighter. Guerlain Galiane (15) (P, $51.00) is lighter. Givenchy Beige Plume (102) (P, $36.00) is lighter. Burberry Pink Apricot (301) (P, $30.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Raquel Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “pink beige.” It’s a lightly pink-tinted, light-medium peach with a glossy finish. It had opaque color payoff, but the consistency had more slip compared to other shades in the range, so it didn’t apply as evenly. It also will show “lines” if you press your lips together. On me, this one lasted for three and a half hours (I believe the shortest of all the shades I’ve tested so far) and was lightly hydrating. NARS Barbara (P, $32.00) is darker, cooler-toned. MAC Enchanted One (LE, $16.00) is more matte, lighter. Guerlain Galiane (15) (P, $51.00) is more muted, less warm-toned. YSL Peach Passion (13) (P, $34.00) is warmer, pinker. MAC Sweet & Sour (P, $16.00) is warmer, more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I’m loving Anita, although the others are all pretty similar with the exception of Jane.
They are all in the same family for sure!
Im nc44…and i just got jane and its not even that bright orange thats showing on this site…its actually more like Barbara thats shown with a touch of more brown , like a warmer mac ravishing. .i love the lipstick though…ppl have to be careful cause these lipsticks will show different on each skin tone….like brighter or darker or lighter than whats shown on only one complextion.
well, it may be more bright and orange on her cause her skin is lighter than yours and possibly lighter than Christine’s, too.
Thats what i just stated. You repeated what i was telling her..for me i knew that . Thanks
This has all my favorite colors in one post! Love Brigitte on you Christine! Anita is a perfect nude for my complexion I guess!
Thanks, Divya! 🙂
These lipsticks look so stunning! Do you know if these will also be available in Europe?
I think they will be, but I don’t have global info!
I want ALL OF THESE! lol
<3
Thanks for posting, Christine!
No problem, Ashley!
This review is the one I was most waiting for! Thanks. I ordered Brigitte but now I’m eyeing Raquel. Hm….should wait and try what’s still coming first….
These all look great on you. All.
Definitely give ’em a try before you buy more! Gotta love ’em at this price point!
Ah, shame, I was hoping some of the nude pinks would be cooler-toned from this collection, but it looks like they’ve got the underlying hue that tends to pull orange on me. They’re quite pretty on you, Christine! Anita in particular is quite nice, and I can see Barbara being a good nude for an intense smokey eye on you.
I was surprised to see so many warm shades in the range, to be honest.
I’m not too surprised, especially with the rosy nudes because those usually are warm, but I admit I would’ve liked to see some of the darker colors with cooler undertones. Warm colors are in this year, though, so I can’t complain too much.
IMO, for a permanent range of FORTY, there is room for less warm shades and more cool-toned ones. Berry isn’t the whole shade that has to run cool! I was really surprised there wasn’t a really dramatic, cool-toned red.
Love Brigitte!
Do you think Raquel is a dupe for MAC’s Ever Hip? Since MAC Sweet & Sour is warmer then Ever Hip as well.
Ever Hip is a lot pinker on me – less peach, more like a coral!
Rats! Well I’ll just continue my search. 😉
I was looking forward to Raquel over any other lipstick in this range..it’s beautiful. I wish it lasted longer..but I still might get it.
I look forward to seeing if you get it, Melinda!
I like Barbara and Jane though Barbara looks very similar to Mac Cherish. Will try them out when released.
Let me know how you like ’em! I am thinking Cherish is browner overall.
Barbara is more peachy coral nude …than mac cherish…is beige peach…if thats makes sense. ok JANE…lets get this clear : its NOT Bright as it looks on the site here. MAC RAVISHING is close dupe on tan skin!!
Different skin tones, coloring, and, of course, lighting will play a role in how something looks. Jane is bright on me – but that is on my coloring 🙂 Ravishing is also bright on me, for example!
Beautiful colors! Jane kind of reminds me of bite beauty cin cin lipstick
I can see some similarity!
OMG each shade is so perfect!!.. you are looking gorgeous in all shades..It seems that they worth every penny…
Thanks a lot, Faiza!
I wish Raquel performed a bit better for this snack bracket. I do like Brigitte but note it is similar to YSL #13 which I have in stash. This is seriously helping me to pare down my hit list cause my first inclination would have been to pick up at least three of these ‘nudes’.
It’s interesting how some shades have noticeably more slip than others – and first we had Ingrid, and then Raquel on the opposite end of the color spectrum!
Jane caught my eye in your initial swatches, and I’m curious to see what it’ll look like on my skintone- – those kind of colours seem to lean much more pink or neutral on me.
Let me know how it works on you 🙂
Gash darn you look pretty in all these pictures, Christine!
Aw, thanks Christina!
I have residency interviews coming up this fall/winter and these all look perfect for the occasion!
Yay!!
They all look great on you as per usual, I just don’t think they would suit me.
Thank you, Erin!
These are very pretty everyday kind of shades. I like them all. Especially Jane!
Yay!!
Jane will look like MAC cherish on dark skin wit a hit of orange …almost like clay terracotta. .or take mac cherish and dab orange to it …Boom : jane.
They’re all gorgeous but I think of all the shades these are the ones I’d have to try on in-store. “Nudes” are so hard to predict for pigmented lips!
I agree — lighter shades can look different on!
Anita and Barbara look fantastic on you!
Thanks a lot, Pami! xo
Oooh Anita and Barbara are sooo pretty! xo
They are!
It looks like Anita & Barbara are the only 2 that made the cut for me, aside from Dominique & Ingrid. Money saved, at least, LOL!
Every little bit counts 😉
I need all of these. The entire collection. All 40. In my bag, right now. I don’t think I’ve seen a colour I don’t like, and your positive reviews are making them harder to refuse!
It’s going to be tough to narrow it down!
I love them all. I see myself doing significant damage to my bank account!
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts once you try ’em!
Do you know how Anita compares to MAC’s Haute Altitude?
Haute Altitude is pinker, less warm-toned!
Wow, Barbara is an amazing nude/MLBB shade for you, Christine! 😀 I think, just out of these ones, Anita would probably be the best for me, although they might all lean either a little too warm or a little to white-based. Doesn’t stop them being pretty in and of themselves, though! ^_^
Thank you, Sylirael! 😀 I actually like Anita a lot for me as well!
Love this post as I love pinky and peachy nudes! I’m really excited to purchase Brigitte and Barbara :). Thank you for listing MAC Dream Daze as a dupe for Anita — now I know I can safely skip that one!
My pleasure as always, Carolyn!
I love Anita and Brigitte. They’re all pretty, though.
Glad you’re liking them, Rachel!
All of these coral-y shades are really calling my name! Barbara also looks like a really nice nude color. I’m definitely going to have to pick up at least 2 of these lipsticks!
The hard part will be picking just two 😀
I love Jane and Anita. I might try and find a cheaper dupe of one of the more nude ones as I like how they look on you but I’m not sure if I’d wear a shade like that often enough to justify the price.
I hope you can find a cheaper dupe, Zainab! 🙂
You look great in Barbara! I think I am going to get it now, thanks Christine!
Thank you, Megan! Let me know how you like the formula!
LOVE All these colors! My staples!
Woohoo!! Will you be getting any of these, Angie?
God, I wish Anita is a more interesting shade, because I would so buy my namesake!
Awww! That is too bad it isn’t a shade that intrigues you 🙁
Anita, Jane and Brigitte are your colors for sure, Christine! Stunning!
Aw, you’re too kind, Elizabeth!
Can you compare Jane to Nars Casablanca and Calliope? I heard Jane is quite brown undertoned rather than, so I’m curious it looks good on me. Brown lipsticks are usually horrible on me. 🙁
And can you compare it to Nars Honolulu honey?
Casablanca is lighter, more orange, less red/brown. I don’t have Calliope or Honolulu Honey! Based on old, old swatches of Honolulu Honey (I did them in-store), it seems like it would be way yellower and lighter.
Wow, they’re all so gorgeous :)) too expensive for me, though, and I heard they have a weird taste/smell.
I haven’t had any issues with taste or smell at all!
There’s seriously not one single one of these that I don’t like and wouldn’t wear! GG, NARS 😀
Uh oh!!
Does Jane lean on brown? I mean is it brown-undertoned?
Kind of brown, like a rosy brown.
Thanks! Your reviews and comments are always helpful! Since the brownish lipsticks like Jane are always horrible on me, money saved! I’m waiting for the rest of your reviews (Esp, I’m really curious about Charlotte, Lana and Vera). 🙂
Hoping to get another set up this weekend! I’ve been putting off some of those berries! It takes about 3 days just to test five shades.
Oh my goodness, Christine, I feel like I would have to justify buying every single one of these colors since they are prettttty similar but I want them all!! I might have to settle with Anita and then grab a few more from the different color schemes.
You look beautiful in all of these colors! Thank you again for all you do, I’d be spending too much money (or not enough lol) if I didn’t have your site!!
Aww, thank you so much, Lori! 😀
I reeeeally love Anita and Brigitte.
I hope you get a chance to swatch ’em sometime, at least!
They made a Jane! Yaaaayyy! And it’s coral (ish), my best color! Yaayyyy!
Woohoo!!
I think Leslie is my fav so far (despite the fact that my first name is Jane, and I like Jane, but not as much as Leslie). Vivien too though! And Carmen!
BRB. Wallet crying.
Poor, poor wallet!
Anita is such a stunning shade, I just checked all the shades listed in the dupe list, but nothing comes even close to the opacity, glossy and smoothness in finish, this color will really make the face glow in winters. All shades are so gorgeous, have to try them in the store. Thanks Christine as always!!!!! You look stunning in Anita & Barbara.
Can’t wait for you to try ’em in store, Neha!
Thank you!
Omg im dying now. They r so gorgeous on you. Specially Jane.
Thanks, Sue!
Are any of these similar to Bobbi Brown bare pink or Too Faced Nude beach lipsticks? Goregous swatches!
Barbara is closest to Bare Pink, I think. I don’t believe I have Nude Beach!
A bit of an off topic question but it I’ve always wondered how you look exactly the same in every picture from lip close ups to your entire face pictures. Are they the same pictures every time or are they different?
Anyways thanks so much for these NARS posts. I’m always tempted to buy stuff from them but every time I do, I’m let down with the products. The lipsticks finally were released in my local sephora but don’t have all the shades but I was able to feel the quality for myself and I’m super impressed. I’m gonna wait for Black Friday and order off their website. Thanks to your swatches I’ll know exactly which ones I want, thank you!
Hi Jess,
I’ve been doing this for 8 years, LOL! You also have to think about the fact that the original photo has a lot more in it – like parts of my nose, chin, etc. so I am only cropping my lips out specifically, and then I can rotate to get them to be straighter if they’re more angled than I’d like.
I have a general set-up that I use, and my schtick is to try and be as consistent in posing/lighting as possible so you can compare one photo to the next. But similarly, the original photo for the face shot is always a lot more space and features than what you’ll see in the cropped version used in the actual post!
I recently purchased the lipstick in Barbara and realized that it’s pretty much identical to Burberry’s Lip Cover in No. 25 Nude Rose.
I also think it’s one of the best-selling among the Audacious lipsticks because it was sold out in a lot of stores that carry Nars in Canada. My purchase was the last one in store, too. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to get your hands on Burberry beauty products (without paying a ludicrous amount in shipping/duty) now since it failed to gain a popular following so I highly recommend Nars as an alternative.
Thank you, Bernice!
Hi,
All of the Nars Audacious lipsticks look amazing-especially the beiges & pinks! Although to choose 1 is going to be a big ask from such a wide colour range! I’ve also been looking at your Guerlain Rouge G & Automatique reviews & just have to purchase 1 each of those. How would you say the Guerlains compare to these new Nars lipsticks?
I have several of the Nars Velvet Matte lip pencils which I love but my all time favs are Tom Ford & YSL so looking forward to getting into the Guerlains which I know you rate highly (shame they discontinue colours though!)
Hey Nishi!
I would say they’re pretty different formulas! Audacious is a thicker, “heavier” kind of formula (I wouldn’t SAY it’s heavy, though!) with less shine and almost none of the shades have shimmer – closer to Tom Ford’s Lip Color range. Not sure which formula of YSL’s you love, but the Rouge Voluptes are almost a combination of Audacious and Rouge G, as they have a lot of slip and shine but a creamier, slightly heavier consistency like Audacious. Rouge Gs are very lightweight, glossier, most have some sort of shimmer 🙂
Thanks Christine & from your description I’m looking forward to trying the Audacious & Rouge G’s even more plus the fact that they are quite different formulas surely justifies purchasing from each line simultaneously 🙂 Also must try the Automatiques. The YSL formula I love is the voluptes (although more for colours & texture as opposed to staying power!) & the pur couture mattes! However, shall be heading to Nars & Guerlain counters shortly! From your swatches, am leaning towards Catherine, Anita in Nars & Gemma, Galiane in Rouge G. Ps. Shame Guerlain no longer do Gems & Gil…both look like gorgeous colours from your review. Out of interest, what prompted you to revisit the Rouge G’s ? Hearts & Lips are happy….wallets less so!
Hey Nishi!
A lot of the Rouge G swatches never made it into the updated Swatch Gallery, because they were too old (we had a cut off based on quality), but I get a lot of questions about similarity 🙂
Which of the new nars lipsticks do you like best?!?!
http://www.temptalia.com/round-nars-audacious-lipstick-overview-thoughts
I just bought Brigitte and it looks totally different on me than on you! On me, it was a bit darker, more on the rose side than the nude.
Thank you for this posting! I absolutely love my new shade!
