Milani Bella Pink (13) Gel Powder Eyeshadow
Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($3.99 for 0.05 oz.) is a new powder eyeshadow formula that’s available in thirty shades. I thought I’d try these three next, as purples are notorious for being difficult to do well, so I wanted to see if Milani’s newest formula could rise to the occasion.
Milani Bella Pink (13) Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($3.99 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “shimmering pink.” It’s a light, icy pink with cool undertones and a frosted, metallic finish. Applied dry, it was semi-opaque, and applied with a dampened brush, it was richly pigmented. The texture was soft, just a smidgen powdery, but almost buttery and dense. It wore well for eight hours before fading. MAC Violet Blend #1 (LE) is slightly warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Enchanted #1 (LE) is lighter. MAC Fresh & Mint #2 (P, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Young Venus (LE, $19.50) is smoother. Bobbi Brown Pink Lily (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Milani Bella Violet (14) Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($3.99 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “shimmering violet purple.” It’s a muted, medim purple with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation when applied dry, and then it intensified to semi-opaque coverage when applied with a dampened brush. The texture was drier, a little more powdery and prone to disappearing–it did not adhere well to the skin. I tried applying it with a dampened brush on the lid, and it still just didn’t seem to layer or build well. What color managed to stick to the skin stayed on for seven hours. theBalm #33 (P, $6.50) is cooler-toned. Tarina Tarantino Violet Storm #5 (LE) is darker, brighter. Kat Von D Babe (LE) is warmer. theBalm A2 (LE, $16.00) is warmer. Urban Decay Betrayal (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Omen (P, $18.00) is more shimmery. Urban Decay Flash (P, $18.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Milani Bella Purple (15) Gel Powder Eyeshadow ($3.99 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “rich purple satin matte.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned purple with a pearly, metallic sheen. Applied dry, it had semi-opaque, softer color, while applied damp, it was richer, smoother, and more opaque. The consistency was soft but not powdery, and it was easy to blend on the skin. NARS Jardin Perdu (Right) (LE, $24.00) is cooler-toned. Makeup Geek Bewitched (P, $6.99) is similar. Tom Ford Beauty Lavender Lust #2 (P) is lighter. Dior Constellation (864) #4 (LE) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Vice (LE, $18.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I got so excited when I saw that these were coming out. I picked up a few, but haven’t used them yet. I do plan on going back and grabbing more.
I can’t wait to hear what you think after you get a chance to use them!
Hey Christine: are the swatches left=dry and right=wet?
Okay so not A’s and yes, I can see the one is patchy on your eyelid, but Milani is pretty damn good at putting out decent products that are really affordable.
Yep, left = dry, right = wet!
Yeah, not all of them are winners… Bella Violet (the most troublesome of this trio) was a bit better over a primer, but it really spoiled the “look” I’d say.
I watched a few video reviews of the Bella Eyes line and the Bella Violet was scathed across the board. I tend to go with loose purple eye shadows (Fyrinnae, Shiro) since they tend to perform better.
You didn’t happen to pick up the Bella Mandarin or Bella Taupe, did you? I made a small order to Milani’s website and ordered those two (and a couple lippies) and was wondering how they fared.
I honestly can’t remember – I bought the eighteen shades that were available at the time (that was all they had on display). I reached out to Milani, and I know they’re sending me additional shades so I should eventually have them all covered! My guess is the Taupe will be just fine. Mandarin may be hit or miss – things in the neutral family tend to be better performing. However, I can tell you that some of the colors like Bella Navy, Bella Teal, and Bella Gold swatched pretty well (haven’t tested them in practice yet, so please take that with a grain of salt!).
Awesome, can’t wait 🙂 Thanks Christine!
my first thought is: oh no I might need all of these
second though is: thank gawd they are so cheap
I’m definitely going to be stalking my local drugstores until these are in stock!
LOL! Yep, thank goodness they’re budget-friendly!
I’m so glad we have you! I was browsing the shadows on the Milani website and they made Bella Violet and Bella Purple look extremely intense and vibrant. Bella Violet actually looks like a completely different shade.
Bella Violet was definitely the biggest miss so far!
I wish these were limited edition. :c I want all of them!
Since they’re permanent, isn’t that better? Then you can get them as you can 🙂
I mean WEREN’T limited edition, sorry, haha! Thanks for replying Christine, lovely review. I thought they WERE limited edition! Thanks for telling me, now I’m happy haha! c:
No problem! 🙂 Glad I could help!
Bella Violet would’ve been my favourite out of the bunch. What a shame.
I would have loved it, too, if it had performed better!
I like Bella Purple, but will more then likely be saving my pennies for the NARS duo.
The NARS duo is quite nice!
I love that pink. *_* I know it’s a basic one but still I like the finish.
Still nice to have an option at $4 😀
The colour and quality of these is gorgeous. These make me think of a fairy look.
I think my favorite was Bella Purple – wish Bella Violet was better!
What a dud but not really surprised… That purple eyeliner looks incredible though!
I wasn’t totally surprised but still sad!
Bella Violet definitely has a case of “the purples”!
LOL!
Am I the only one have trouble finding these on Amazon or Drugstore.com?
They’re still coming soon – might not be up yet 🙂
Sexy mauve eye! Shades of Radiant Orchid catch me again.. For the price, the mist faulty performing are actually quite like some high-end brands best performance! I’m going by this and other reviews and I must say I’m liking these. Anything like Young Venus.. 😀
Not a huge surprise since, as you said, even high-ends miss on this type of shade!
Of course Violet would be the one to not perform well! I really like the color. It reminds me of MAC Blooming Mad. I was hoping it would be a nice alternative. Boo!
I know, right? Would be nice to have a budget-friendly option!
I think there’s just something about the raw pigments used to make purple eyeshadows that is wonky.
Must be!
Pretty violet eyes!
Thank you!
What is it about bright violet eyeshadows that makes it so difficult to have good color payoff?! I remember you reviewed a similar shade in the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette poorly too (I thought it was ok, but not as good as the others in the palette). I have also found MAC’s parfait amour is not very impressive either.
In general, purples are problematic 🙁
Where can I find these for $4? My drugstores rack up the prices to $5.50
Milani sells them directly at $3.99.
