Highlighter Palettes

While I can understand why a highlighter palette with similar tones may make more sense for a particular skin tone, I prefer ones that have a good variety as I think that’s a good way to get value out of the palette.

I’m not much of a palette fan in general, I prefer singles since I tend to favour one shade/tone over a variety, at least when it comes to highlighters.

I only have one highlighter palette and I dislike it. It seemed like a fun idea at the time, but I just don’t need so many shades. All I need is one good shiny highlighter for evening, one good subtle highlighter for daytime, both of which I have as singles, not in a palette. That’s it. I’ve officially prohibited myself from buying anymore highlighters, and definitely no highlighter palettes!

As I believe I only own one true highlighter palette, I’m no authority on them. But I DO like them when they’re done well and supply either a lot of variety in the said palette or have at least one version each for lighter and deeper skintones.

I don’t own a highlighter palette, nor any contour palettes, preferring individual shades. It’s just more economical and practical for me to pick and choose! Plus highlighter is a category in which I don’t often experiment oop. I let my blush do most of the talking.

I have a couple of highlighter palettes and I don’t use them much at all. The exception was our trip to Europe and then we took one for my daughter and I to share. The biggest drawbacks for me are the number of shades that I cannot pull off, being so fair. The palette worked for us because my daughter’s skin tone is deeper than I am so it made sense to go with the palette. I prefer my highlighters to be as light as possible to give my cheeks a lift and many palettes have shades that I cannot use for that. I do use them as eye shadows or toppers sometimes but not enough to justify buying them.

If it is curated well you can use cooler tones for winter and warmer tones for summer. I do like the idea of having a few choices at hand to choose from and will take a palette on vacation so that I am prepared for everything and anything. I fell down the highlighter hole a few years ago in search of the perfect highlighter, needless to say I don’t buy any highlighters any more.

I would only get use out of a highlighter palette if it came with a silvery/pink and a peachy/gold highlighter so that I could have my two faves in one palette. Otherwise, the colors are too all over the place for me OR, on the contrary, too similar for me. Just not worth it. I do much better with singles.

I don’t own any face palettes (countour, highlight, bronzer, blush, etc). I personally never find I get enough use out of them as I gravitate towards maybe one or two shades. The one thing that would alter my opinion is if I loved (and I mean LOVED enough to pan what I own and get them again in a palette) two of the shades and for those plus a “play” shade it was cheaper than the two stand alones repurchased on their own. I do think the combined face palettes are great if you travel a lot, but since I only really go out of town a few times a year and never for more than a week I can get by with just a stand alone highlight.

I love them when I find one that will work for me. I love having different colors to play with and to go with my different makeup looks. I prefer to have all or mostly powders. ABH Moonchild Glow Kit is my favorite.

I don’t like when too many of the shades are too dark for my fair skin, or when shades are too similar. I don’t like it when creams and powders are in the same palette without being separated or covered. I’m usually not a fan of all cream highlighters in a palette, but it depends on the formula.

Like : trying different colors from the same brand and having options if I travel with it.

Dislike : I can’t use all the colors especially ones with silvery undertones or very light colors.

I never ever buy highlighter palettes, simply because not all of the shades work for me – they are either too dark, overly shimmery, unworkable shades and quite expensive.

As a “mature “ woman, I need to be careful with highlighters. It’s is a pretty look if done in a tasteful way. Why is there a need to dot the tip of ones Noes with a beam of light! Not understanding that look. One size does not fit all. I own several highlighters, single and in palettes. I have stopped purchasing all now! One gold tone and pink tone is all that is needed.

I love bronzer/blush/highlighter palettes aimed towards various skin intensities, but I find h/l palettes are rarely cost effective as I tend to use one or two shades at best. I’ve donated every single one of my ABH H/L palettes (So guilty of buying all those 🤬 Glow Kits) except one (Winter Solstice). Lesson learned.
