Maybelline Tangy Tulip (960) Color Sensational Lip Color
Maybelline Tangy Tulip (960) Color Sensational Lip Color

Maybelline Tangy Tulip (960) Color Sensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a lightly creamy consistency that was thin but glided on without tugging. On me, it lasted for three and a half hours and was lightly hydrating. The formula has a sweet, fruity scent that’s not too strong. MAC Ravishingly Rich (P, $23.00) is more matte. NARS Lana (P, $32.00) is darker. NARS Geraldine (P, $32.00) is similar. Givenchy Corail Signature (317) (P, $36.00) is lighter. Lipstick Queen Jungle Queen (P, $22.00) is redder. Illamasqua Soaked (P, $26.00) is brighter. NARS Timanfaya (P, $25.00) is more matte. MAC Sweet Grenadine (LE, $17.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty All the Way (122) (P, $30.00) is darker. Milani Sweet Nectar (P, $5.49) is more matte, brighter. MAC Morange (P, $16.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Bubblegum Bloom (965) Color Sensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a light, cool-toned pink with a strong white base and white frosted shimmer. It was semi-sheer with a gritty texture that applied horribly; it was incredibly uneven, made my lips look worse, and settled into lip lines. The color slipped away within an hour and a half with additional color settling into lip lines, and it was neither drying nor hydrating. Maybelline Petal Pink (710) (P, $7.49) is darker, brighter, less shimmery. MAC To Savour (P, $23.00) is less shimmery, darker. MAC A Novel Romance (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. MAC Dress to Impress (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. MAC Be Fabulous (P, $22.00) is less shimmery. MAC Rose Lily (LE, $16.00) is darker, less shimmery. Revlon Cupcake (P, $7.49) is darker. MAC Dreaminess (P, $22.00) is less shimmery. Guerlain Rose Innocent (LE, $51.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Carnation Cabernet (970) Color Sensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a brightened, fuchsia-berry with cool, blue undertones and a glossy sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage with a moderately emollient consistency that has a “wet” appearance when applied. The texture is thin with translucency, so the natural lip color comes thorugh, and this tended to look like a lip stain applied. It lasted for four hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Urban Decay Sheer Anarchy (P, $20.00) is less glossy. Tom Ford Beauty Francesco (LE, $32.00) is more shimmery, less glossy. Lipstick Queen Play It (P, $50.00) is similar. MAC Catharina (P, $23.00) is less glossy. Estee Lauder Dominant (P, $30.00) is brighter. Buxom Exhibitionist (P, $21.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

P.S. — There is one more new, limited edition shade from Maybelline, but my local store didn’t have it. Sorry! 🙁

Fantastic post, as always! Just wanted to know if the dupe for third shade (Maybelline Catharina for 23.00) was correct?

P.S. I love that you have such a warm genuine smile even when the product you are showcasing is clearly not one you had a great experience with. Such a professional! Thanks for all your hard work!!

Tangy Tulip & Carnation are so pretty. During the spring and summer, I don’t mind if the color is little translucent. Bubblegum looks like the first lipstick I bought for myself – was a medium frosty pink, and at that time, I thought it looked nice. Since then, I haven’t bought a frosty pink, and will probably never do so again!

I love semi-opaque lipsticks, so Tangy Tulip and Carnation Cabernet are right up my alley! I have a crazy allergy to most lip products (my throat feels like it’s on fire), so it’s hard to spend $$ on lipsticks and then not be able to wear them. I haven’t tried Maybelline in a long time, so I’m not sure it’s one I can wear, but at least if it isn’t, I won’t be out a ton!

Carnation Cabaret looks SO pretty on you ! I’ve had good luck with the ones from this line ( the older line though..not the current ones)!

They are really lovely for spring 🙂 I was totally surprised to see even MORE shades for spring from Maybelline!

You have to know you’re the one who makes me wear lipsitck !
Because it’s crazy to see how some shades, like the last one here, is perfect for you and make you even prettier !
A lipstick can sublimate a girl whithout looking “too much” when it’s the perfect shade!

I have Tangy Tulip and Carnation Cabernet and I really like them. Carnation Cabernet is especially beautiful!

Ooooo, a great orange. Love that one. The Cabernet is nice, too.

Funny – I never ever wear pale pink lippy, it is a horrific look on me even with a decent product, so I skipped right over the review until I saw the F. Then I was curious enough to scroll back up, lol.

I may pick up Tangy Tulip since I don’t have a real orange lipstick & I’ve got a 30% off coupon for CVS. It amazes me that the rating varies so widely on products from the same collection, but I guess the ingredients that make each shade must really be different. Interesting but kind of strange.

Generally I love the Maybelline Colour Rich lipsticks, but I am not a fan of these colours – they really don’t suit me. I was hoping for some Marsala colours to hit the market.

Even though I really like Carnation Cabernet, I’ll be going in for the MAC Catharina one instead, because I seriously LOVE that Ultimate formula! Been wearing Marque nearly every day since I bought it, and I never, ever do that. It just feels really nice and it actually lasts for quite awhile on my lips, and it doesn’t give me “goo” either! As for that Bubblgum one…one has got to wonder whether they took a time machine back to the late 60’s to get that ugly pale frosted mess?

How beautiful and pigmented are these lipsticks. Maybelline has always been able to produce amazing quality lipsticks so I am sure these will all be equally amazing as the rest
xx

Carnation Cabernet looks so awesome! Juicy and vivid, perfect for spring. Tangy tulip looks amazing on you, compliments your skin tone very well.

Bubblegum Bloom, on the other hand… I think those colours are not really flattering for anyone, or a very small portion of people. It’s hard to pull off a shade like that, specially with a frost finish. Extra-specially if the formula is not so good, lol.

Do you give all the cool toned pink lipsticks poor grades because you don’t suit your skintone? I feel like you never give F grades to corals, power reds, etc. Just unflattering colors.

Reds (and many often wear six hours or longer, which always gives them an edge in longevity) and deeper corals are hard to mess up, but cool pinks are often streaky, as many lighter colors are – similarly, peaches, beiges, warm but light pinks, etc. often have problems. I have given plenty of high marks to cool toned pinks – I’m not sure why you are saying otherwise, to be honest! I love wearing cool-toned colors, even if you may feel they’re unflattering on me 🙂

There are tons in the Swatch Gallery – you can easily see the difference in Bubblegum Bloom and it’s shoddy application and end result compared to a cool-toned pink that actually applies well. Here are just a few that I saw in two minutes and I didn’t even get a third through all of the cool-toned pinks I’ve reviewed (that’s not counting fuchsias either, and fuchsias, like red, tend to wear longer and are harder to mess up):
