So Hot
Maybelline So Hot Color Sensational Vivid Hot Lacquer Lip Gloss ($7.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, though it was not full coverage. The texture was light-medium in weight, moderately sticky, but it adhered and sat well on the lips without feathering or settling into my lip lines. The color stayed on well for over six hours and was somewhat hydrating while worn.
The formula is supposed to have “full coverage” that won’t “feather or migrate” paired with a “high-impact glossy finish.” The formula is light-medium in thickness–by no means a thin, featherweight gloss but not shy of being totally goopy or heavy-feeling–with moderate tackiness. I find that it initially went on feeling like a thicker, creamy gloss with a lot of slip, but it developed into more of a gel-like consistency that adhered better and did not slide around after 20 to 30 seconds. I did not experience feathering or migration with any shades tested so far (and I went for the deeper shades first!). The wear has ranged from four to six hours with a non-drying to lightly hydrating effect. The formula had a subtle, sweet scent but did not taste soapy or linger as long as I have experienced with Maybelline lip products in the past.

Classic
Maybelline Classic Color Sensational Vivid Hot Lacquer Lip Gloss ($7.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark red with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to the lips. The gloss was moderately tacky without feeling heavy or goopy, and while it felt more cream-like when I first applied it, a minute or so later it felt more gel-like. I was impressed by how the gloss did not sink into my lip lines and how it did not feather over time. It wore well for six hours and was lightly hydrating. (I have no idea what happened to the applicator; that was how it arrived and it was the only applicator that was wonky.)

Obsessed
Maybelline Obsessed Color Sensational Vivid Hot Lacquer Lip Gloss ($7.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a deep, reddish-berry with cool undertones and a cream finish. It had good color coverage, though you could see my lip freckle peeking through. The upside was that it applied evenly and smoothly, which was quite the feat for this type of color and format. The consistency was creamy going on initially, but it developed into a more gel-like consistency that was moderately tacky. This shade wore well for six hours and was lightly moisturizing.

These look great. The applicator is on a strangish slant, though. Think I’ll try one to downshift my desire for the VLGs. Got the multipack, but haven’t gotten a full size yet. These could be a good dupe with money saved.
The applicator made it pretty easy to apply, but I might argue that they pull a lot of product out in a single pull that it may be overkill for anyone with smaller lips.
Thanks. Now I see the point. NPI.
VLGs?
Classic is gorgeous but you’re not kidding about the wonky applicator. And it seems that it would be hard to use it without a proper applicator (not like a lip pencil or even a skewer or Starbucks stir stick would work).
It seemed like it just broke where the doefoot connected with the wand itself, though I did manage to apply it still with the applicator 😉
I’ll have to check these out! I like that they rated well, the colors are nice, and there’s none of that scent on them. I also like the formula.
There is still a scent to them (noted above) but much subtler than Maybelline’s usual!
Speaking of rebel, I just finished my mac to go size tube of rebel gloss,
So I may have to pick up obsessed to replace it once these hit canadian walmart’s!!!
Nice job!!
These are the ONES! Obsessed may be the only one that I don’t know of a dupe of within my own stash, though. And it just looks like a perfect softer berry!
So Hot is also gorgeous, but since UD Sheer Slowburn *looks* like I’m wearing a lip gloss, I will skip this.
Wow, these are all stunning, and price is right! Way to go Maybelline, saving many wallets and budgets with great quality stuff
Oh these shades are so nice!!! I love Obsessed! I actually LOL-ed at the one applicator. How does that happen?!
Hi Christina, is this product one of thoses gloss/stain/balm hybrids formulas? Like YSL rouge pur couture vernis ? Or MAC Versicolor? And does the color deepen after initial application? I love this type of formula 🙂 if this is the same there r several shades here I could happily work with.
Nah, still more like a traditional gloss – definitely doesn’t feel like Glossy Stains!
Ok thanks for clarifying, I will check them out when they hit the U.K..
I have dupes for Classic and Obsessed, I don’t know however if they have sesame yet 🙁
