Maybelline Molten Rose Gold MasterChrome Metallic Highlighter Review, Photos, Swatches

Molten Rose Gold
Maybelline Molten Rose Gold MasterChrome Metallic Highlighter ($9.99 for 0.24 oz.) is a light peach with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had excellent pigmentation with a smooth, slightly dense texture that was thicker in feel, which made it feel more like a cream-based product, but it sat beautifully on the skin. The highlighter was easy to pickup with a brush, apply, and blend out for high-shine finish. I would recommend using a lighter touch with this, as a little went a long way (and as a result, it wasn’t as subtle or as buildable as marketed, which was the only “downside”). On me, it wore well for eight and a half hours before fading slightly.

Formula Overview

It’s supposed to have a “chrome effect” that can be applied “lightly for a subtle glow” or built up for a “bold melted metal look.” The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable that was delightfully creamy to the touch, but it was still more loosely pressed (without being powdery), which made it particularly easy to apply with a slew of brushes.
For subtle coverage, I’d recommend a light hand and a tapered highlighting brush or a fan brush with a moderate hand. It had opaque coverage–not buildable as described, which was really the only downside to the product–that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with little effort. The shades typically wore for around eight hours on me.

This made it onto the WL! I do have MAC Luna Luster, but it is a fairly subtle highlighter in comparison. Similar shade, but the intensity of Molten Rose Gold is stellar!
This is beautiful!!!
Wow – that is so good for a DS brand – why would you spend megabucks when you can get this for under $10? A really flattering shade.
This looks so pretty I think it is a match for my skin color but I must be strong in 2018! Got so many already! Noticed they are introducing in Target the Milani highlighters but they look rather intense to me as in too much shimmer glow. Would love to swatch and find out. Luckily I haven’t spotted these Maybelline ones yet or I would fall for it. Will be on lookout for these. So pretty! Looks beautiful on you!
However, got two Milani bronzers in clearance totally in perfect condition, one is Zoleil and the other Glow and I’m loving them used Zoleil as blush today. Very smooth and natural looking the shimmer doesn’t show as much once applied which is great!
Beautiful. I love seeing more affordable options that are high quality. Thank you for reviewing this highlighter.
This is gorgeous and gets a Temptalia recommends. That is enough for me!
This formula seems to get raves across the board, but unfortunately, I can’t use either shade. Perhaps Maybelline will take this formula, and the Opal shade from the Holographic formula, which would be perfect.
I love this! I definitely don’t need more highlighters, but this is so pretty… Maybe when there’s eventually a good sale somewhere.
I love seeing a great quality drugstore brand item. I haven’t favored more shimmery highlighters but this one looks so nice and is so affordable, I may check it out.
Love it! Guilt free price really. Might snag this beauty.
Sad this wasn’t as suitable or buildable as it claimed to be, but I can recommend this to a friend who’s been looking for a new highlighter. It’s very pretty and I love the sheen it gives off.
I love it!
I love this so much. Thanks to your review I picked this up. Its so pretty!! Rivals high lights that cost a lot more.
Wow Christine, this is the first time you’ve reviewed something and I immediately hopped out to buy it! This is stunning. I’m playing around with it now and comparing it to others in my collection.
I immediately pulled out my ABH x Nicole Guerrerro kit, and it packs even MORE power as those. It’s insane. It’s a bit similar to Daydream in my eyes, after I blended a bit of Kitty Kat with it.
It also reminds me a bit of my all-time favorite highlighter, Made Me Do it by Colour Pop. Molten Rose Gold is warmer and crazy bright in comparison, but they fit in nicely together.
(All of these above comparisons are based on my olive-peach skintone, which does weird things to makeup, so your mileage may vary).
This is really pretty, especially for the drugstore!
This looks stunning!!! Can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I have this and came here curious to see what you thought of it ? Sometimes I think I don’t trust my own instincts, but I was right this time. I love this highlighter and frankly, I don’t even love highlight on myself as a general rule. But this one has changed my mind. Been using it every day and it’s beautiful.
