Maybelline Craving Coral, Siren in Scarlet, Divine Wine Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color Review, Photos, Swatches
Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color
Maybelline Craving Coral Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color ($7.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had mostly opaque coverage, though there was a hint of my lip freckle still visible, so your natural lip color may still come through. It was lightly creamy and sat well on the lips, while the color wore for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Tom Ford Beauty Flame (06) (P, $50.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. MAC Strange Journey (LE, $16.00) is darker. NARS Marlene (P, $32.00) is more muted, glossier. Kat Von D Countess (P, $21.00) is brighter. Dior Trafalgar (844) (P, $34.00) is brighter, glossier. MAC Dangerous (P, $16.00) is darker, more muted. MAC Tomango (LE, $16.00) is brighter. MAC Lady Danger (P, $16.00) is brighter. MAC Scarlet Ibis (LE, $16.00) is darker, brighter. Maybelline Siren in Scarlet Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color ($7.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium, brightened red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. It had almost full coverage and applied evenly without dragging on the lips. The color sat well and lasted for six hours with a stain remaining. The formula was comfortable to wear and wasn’t drying. MAC Steam Heat (LE, $16.00) is darker, more muted. Make Up For Ever #43 (P, $19.00) is glossier. MAC Ruby Woo (P, $16.00) is cooler. MAC MAC Red (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler. Kat Von D Underage Red (P, $19.00) is warmer, less glossy. Too Faced Melted Ruby (P, $21.00) is cooler, glossier. Tom Ford Beauty Ruby Rush (07) (P, $50.00) is darker. MAC Ruby (LE, $16.00) is glossier. NARS Deadly Catch (LE, $26.00) is darker. Anastasia American Doll (P, $20.00) is less glossy. Bite Beauty Fraise (P, $24.00) is lighter. MAC Tenor Voice (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer. MAC Opera (LE, $16.00) is warmer. MAC Kinky (LE, $16.00) is darker. Kat Von D Outlaw (P, $19.00) is darker, less glossy. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Maybelline Divine Wine Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color ($7.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a deepened, slightly muted, dark burgundy with warm, reddish-brown undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation, though not totally opaque, that went on smoothly and evenly and didn’t pull into lip lines. This shade stayed on for six hours and wasn’t drying. Tom Ford Beauty Velvet Cherry (08) (P, $50.00) is warmer, glossier. MAC Diva (P, $16.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Blow (210) (P, $30.00) is glossier. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary: It is supposed to “deliver a burst of bold lip color” with a “creamy texture” and a matte finish. In general, the formula has good color payoff with a velvety, creamy consistency that covers evenly and most shades seem to make lips appear smoother but some shades were prone to pulling into lip lines as the color wore away. The big thing about these is that they have a mostly matte finish and are more comfortable to wear than many matte formulas due to the velvety feel (almost like a silicone primer, but not quite as heavy and not clingy). The formula was neither drying nor hydrating on me. It had a sweet, plastic-like scent but no taste.

I’m getting Divine Wine! From the name, I thought it was more of a purple red, but it’s a red with some brownish undertones, which I love. And a dupe for Tom Ford!
Enjoy it, Katherine 🙂
You can try on my lips! Hahaha! They’re pretty close to this color! Just to see what they’d look like.. I invert my screen on photos to enjoy them lighter! Lol. 😀
Your lips are the color of Divine Wine? Wow, you have really pigmented lips! Mine don’t have that much color, so I have to wear something, even if it’s a tinted lipbalm, or I look totally washed out.
Ello! Yeah, a bit more berry but yes, they are. Lol. Lipsticks don’t mesh well with them! Your lips must be gorgeous! Just add blush, mascara, clear gloss.. Beautiful! I’ve tried quite hard to achieve no color. It doesn’t work. 🙁 YSL Rouge Volupte 1 and MUFE Labshine 1 or 2 (?) has produced the closest light color ever for me. Back when UD had their old skool line, there was a color that worked too.. Oh I LOVED it! 😀 I’m so pale too.. Super odd, but we must love what we have! 🙂 I hope your day is going well! XOXO
I just can’t get over the scent of Maybelline’s lipsticks. I have a few and I’d like to like them and get use out of them but I just can’t. Shocking Coral is staring at me as I type this….:P
I’ve seen some tricks for removing scents from lipsticks so I suppose I could give that a go. Do these matte lipsticks smell the same as Shocking Coral?
I’m not a fan of their scents either 🙁 It’s a slightly sweet, plastic-y scent.
So glad these are doing well! I ordered two along with some other stuff form Ulta yesterday. I got Touch of Spice and the blush one you reviewed yesterday ( I can’t recall the correct name at the moment). I really love all three of these shades. I want to see how I do with the scent first and the texture. The texture sounds nice for a matte though. Hopefully I can find them in the actual drugstores or Target ( I just received a $50 Target gift card..yay!) and avoid Ulta’s ridiculous shipping fees!
Good call on seeing how you like (or don’t like) the scent 🙂
Such an odd name choice for Craving Coral. I do like it though. Orange always looks great on you.
It is quite orange!
A matte burgundy/wine that gets an A? And it’s under $10? Nice! It’s not as dark as I usually go for but I might have to pick it up.
Hope you can check it out, Alice!
Aah! All of them look gorgeous on you Christine. I have a couple of their mattes and really enjoy them ..especially for not being a fan of mattes in general, I was pleasantly surprised with these! Their colorsensational vivids were really good too!
Thanks a lot, Dee!
I’m digging all three!
Awesome!
Come fall, it’ll be hard to pass on Divine Wine! Such great lipsticks for a great price 🙂 Thanks for reviewing, Christine!
My pleasure, Joy!
You say the finish is “semi-matte.” Would you say they’re more on the matte side or satin side? They don’t really look matte to me in the swatches.
Not really a satin, not really a matte, lol! That’s why I went with semi-matte 🙂
It’s so nice to see affordable lipsticks getting high ratings! It’ll help me save a few dollars 😉
It is!
I have one lipstick in this formula (a nude, which is weird because I never wear nudes), and I quite like the formula! It has such a hard to describe texture, I never could quite figure out how to phrase it, but you nailed it when you said it’s kind of like a silicone primer. I think I’ll definitely get more, for the price this is great quality. Maybe I’ll get Craving Coral, since I’ve been interested in MAC Lady Danger! Siren in Scarlet is lovely too (can you tell I like warm reds?) but I already have Steam Heat.
Craving Coral would be a good substitute for Lady Danger! 🙂
I especially like Divine Wine but it’s too close to my beloved Diva. But a great dupe for others!
Yay for new dupes!
I like all 3. I like the finish too, they don’t look flat or powdery.
Happy to hear it!
These are all great. I have to check out Siren in Scarlet, since I’ve been considering the ABH and Kat von D dupes.
Good idea 🙂
These look so nice! I am a big fan of NYX matte lipstick formula, but I was not aware Maybelline had such a good matte formula. I really enjoy the darker shades in the NYX formula, although lighter shades are chalky against my medium/tan skin.
Christine, have you tried the NYX Matte Lipsticks? How would you compare the two? Also, NYX has a little bit of a soapy taste to me, with a little bit of thickness. Do you feel these are thick?
Thanks for the review, I think I will get a bunch of these!
I think I bought some, but I cannot recall actually photographing them yet!
These are not a weightless lipstick for sure — it’s a bit like a thinner, velvety primer, but you’re applying it on your lips, so it has some thickness to it, but I wouldn’t say it’s really heavy.
I have Divine Wine…love it!
Woohoo 😀
I have Divine Wine and its a gorgeous color. It was slightly drying for me, I would still recommend it as a drugstore dupe for higher end versions.
Thank you for sharing, Erica! 🙂
The pigmentation and finish of all 3 looks truly amazing! If someone said that these were HE, I’d be inclined to believe them. Yeah, that good. And that they are comfortable to wear is a major bonus, too!
They’re really comfy for mattes!
Oh YES- I really want Siren and Divine Wine! Alas- my local Rite Aid still doesn’t have any of the brights. I’m so pleased you review the Maybelline lip line as I like having affordable options too. Sometimes $30 per lipstick is too hard on the budget. Thanks Christine-& you look so pretty in these pics.
Haven’t seen any brights anywhere near me, but my local stores seem REALLYYYYY slow!
Love, love, love that Divine Wine colour and I hope that Maybelline is going to send some to Australia – we never get the full range, only about half. It looks gorgeous on you Christine.
Fingers crossed 😀
I think I’m going to have to check these out since my lips are getting a bit drier in winter and these look pretty forgiving for mattes.
They’re much, much easier to wear for a matte formula!
I love the Divine Wine. It’s burgundy with warmth instead of purple. I will be buying this one during lunch or on the way home from work! THANKS!
No problem, Karen! Enjoy!
Your skin looks FLAWLESS in these photos! Especially against Scarlet.
Thanks, Helena!
I need to pick up Divine Wine, that was one shade that wasn’t offered when these initially launched up here in my area.
It is gorgeous!
Well hello, Divine Wine! 😉
It says hi back!
Hmm.. Well, maybe it and I will have to talk. LOL. 😉
All look Gorge on you, Christine!
Thanks, Lotus!
Will you be watching All Fired Up from this line? It looks like a ruby woo dupe to me but I’d love to see your swatches side by side!
Hi Vanessa,
Sorry, I don’t have that.
I have all 3 of these and love them. They were go-tos when they came out because it was fall/winter-ish still. I do dislike the sweet, plastic scent so I would “trick” my nose by adding the tiniest dab of a minty lip balm under my nose to disguise the scent.
Ooh, nice trick!
Wow, I don’t wear bold lipstick and even I want these, especially Divine Wine! So beautiful. By the way, could you pretty please tell me what blush you’re wearing? It’s gorgeous! I’ve been looking for a good reddish blush for a while!
Sorry, I don’t remember!
Divine Wine is nice
It is!
Wow, GORGEOUS! I hope I’ll be able to find these in my local CVS!
ps what blush are you wearing? It looks so great with all three lipsticks! 😀
I don’t remember, sorry!
